when i try to start my car the starter makes a buzzing noise and it doesnt start before i had to hit my starter with a hammer to get it to start now it doesnt start at all and it makes a buzzing noise? Please help do I need a new starter?

Yes your starter is most likely bad! Take if off go to auto zone or napa and they can test it.

Battery might not have enough amps to turn the starter
...U can try using a different battery. make sure to check the voltage on the
Alternator to make sure its charging you battery if you get it started . Should be a little over 13v wen charging
If Car starts with new battery, and alternator is charging. Than you might have a bad battery

"before i had to hit my starter with a hammer to get it to start " your answer to your own question. If everything works in your car such as lights, horn, radio etc then it's probably not your battery. Get a starter.
