I recently swaped a 91 engine into my 96 se, I have been having troubles getting it to run normal. I have swapped plugs, distributor rotor, and messed with timing, I have also checked for vaccum leaks but have not found any.

so here are the symptoms, When the car is cold the idle is high but it runs pretty smooth, as it begins to warm up the idle is erratic and fluxuates and then eventually kills the car. when I change plugs it runs okay for a split second and then starts running rough again. here is the kicker the plugs foul out with in 2 or 3 minutes of swapping them. any info on this would be apreciated. Thanks.

does your car bog like hell? or just runs super rich?

if it bogs, my problem was with the wire harness. a wire was kinked and basically pooped on me.

if it runs super rich, it could be your o2 sensor.

Thanks for the reply, I recently replaced my o2 sensor with a universal one, my second o2 sensor has been removed. It doesnt persay bog but it does run super rich, the idle is erratic and there is a power loss under acceleration. the one time I took it out I was about to stall at a light and I was able to keep the car running by pressing on the gas.

As a side not I am not sure if I hooked my fuel return line up correctly becouse I was taking an fmu outof the system. could this cause it?

Offhand can you remember which wire that was that was kinked?

I cleaned my maf and it appears to have stopped running rich, I can leave the plugs in for more than a few minutes now, with out them fouling out. I still have a rough idle however, any more sudjestions. thanks.

I got the same exact problem right now, my car idles like shit and runs to rich. Was alright for a couple of mins when I changed the plugs, but the went bad again.

I took off my distrubitor to test it and put it back on, retimmed ignition and now the car wont start at all. My car sounds like some pistions are fireing randomly but it wont turn over. Makes no sence to me cuz my car before I took the distru off would start up perfectly, I retimmed it perfectly and now it wont start........... :wtf:
