My name is Nick Pullin, and this is my story. It all began on May 25, 2011. I had finally found what seemed like a decent S13 coupe on Craigslist. I promptly drove over to Pasadena to take a look. I didn’t really have any idea what I was looking for but everything seemed there to me! So I slapped some crappy tags on it and high-tailed it home.

I didn’t really have a lot of experience with cars. I started to play around with my 350z a bit, but it was too expensive. But something about modifying the car was fun, and rewarding when you let the car down off the jack for the final time. So I began to look around for a cheaper chassis to play with, which is when I stumbled upon the S13. It was love at first sight. It took me a few months to find one, but I finally had one and I was ready to make some moves!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/3-e1373316079227.jpg

I knew from the start I wanted a Silvia front. It was so cool and unique to me, I had to have one! So I did some searching around and wasn’t having a whole lot of luck. Until I stumbled upon a closed ‘For Sale’ thread on Zilvia with a $550 Silvia front. The seller didn’t post pictures, so the thread was closed and promptly floated a few pages back. I got him on the phone quick and agreed to meet that night. I asked if I should bring tools, he said I didn’t need to. Learning curve… I didn’t have any car friends, so I couldn’t convince anybody to go with me. So I packed up and headed out on a Friday night to give this shit a whirl! It ended up being a total nightmare with the guy leaving me in the parking lot for an hour, and me breaking all the bolts off with an 18-piece WalMart tool set while the seller asked me if I would like to smoke marijuana with him. The front end didn’t have the ‘Brick’ headlights as advertised, so the seller knocked off $50. It was already cheap so I ripped it off and got out of dodge! At this point I was wondering if car life was even cool. Seemed pretty ratchet to me, but I was home free with my Silvia front at this point so who cares!

Swapped it on that weekend and was stoked!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/6-e1373316156934.jpg

A couple weeks later I was at Japanese Engine Import in Manassas, VA and scored a set of ‘Bricks’ for $250! Nice. While I was there I got something else…

SR20! Hell yeah we’re really moving now! It looks like the motor sat in the container for a year, but it’s better than my KA.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/11-e1373316325762.jpg

There’s no way in hell I’m going to put the motor in the car looking that way. So I started to tear it down and clean everything up!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/12-e1373316346330.jpg

Looking better…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/13-e1373316368873.jpg

Back together and ready to give my first engine swap a try! When my parents asked what I was up to for the weekend, I told them that I was going to pull the motor from the white car. My dad felt pretty bad for me, because he knew I didn’t really know what I was doing. So he decided to come up for the day and help me out! It was quite the experience but we got a lot done for two people with very little automotive experience.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/14-e1373316389836.jpg

Obligatory first-timers photo…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/15-e1373316414926.jpg

All cleaned up!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/16-e1373316439518.jpg

Ready to drop in! Let’s see how this goes…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/17-e1373316464165.jpg

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/18-e1373316500689.jpg

Wow, it actually worked. Now to get this thing running…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/19-e1373316521112.jpg

Moved some stuff around…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/20-e1373316541796.jpg

Reset my timing since I pulled my CAS out without really understanding what the hell I was doing… LOL

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/21-e1373316562906.jpg

Got some side skirts, hell yeah!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/22-e1373316583184.jpg

Then… one day my SR actually started! That was awesome, I didn’t really have a clue what I was doing and sometimes I wondered what I had gotten myself into…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/23-e1373316604160.jpg

So I took it out and drove it around as much as I could. Worked all the kinks out and was loving it! SR power! A few months before this time I had started hanging out with the guys from the local forum and a couple of them invited me out to a drift day at the local track. I had just planned to watch because I didn’t want to tear my car up. My dad told me I would be an idiot to go and watch when I have my car…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/24-e1373316625905.jpg

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/25-e1373316646203.jpg

He was right! So off we went. Open diff, stock suspension, whatever! I didn’t do much but I had a blast. I was hooked!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/261-e1373479847520.jpg

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/271-e1373479959357.jpg

So I bought coils, a seat, and got my diff welded (thanks Ivan!) I proceeded to thrash on the car for another few events. I was having a blast!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/28-e1373316702698.jpg

Got 5-lug and some Battles. Did some more drifting. Flew up a grass embankment and smashed my intercooler. Had to rig it up and drive home because I had convinced my dad to ride out with me HAHA. I was having a blast. I wasn’t very good but it was so much fun to go thrash on your car and not have to worry about police or guard rails. But, I think when I hit the embankment I really shook the car and blew some of the rust holes open pretty good. Not cool. The plan was to keep drifting the car and hope I didn’t hurt myself, while I looked for a rust-free chassis.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/29-e1373316724640.jpg

A couple months and a few events later the white car was on it’s last leg. Right around then I managed to find this piece of shit on Craigslist. It needed alot of work, but it didn’t have any rust and came with a few parts I could sell back to recoup some money.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/30-e1373316746489.jpg

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/31-e1373316777872.jpg

One good part about the car is all this was already done! I needed better suspension arms, and taking the subframe out of a 20+ year old car is never any fun. So at least all that is out of the way. I wanted to make the final Slideways event at ODS as well as 100 Drifters of December so I quickly got both cars next to each other and went to work. I started with all of the suspension stuff I wanted to switch over, and checked over all of the previous owners work. Unfortunately there were a lot of loose bolts and problems, but I got everything taken care of.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/35-e1373316890882.jpg

Motor out! Ready to go into its new home.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/36.jpg

At this point things were getting pretty chaotic at the shop, but I just had to keep pressing on and getting things done! I would get off work at 5, eat dinner until 6, and work all night until 1/2am. Wake up for work at 6 and do it all again. This went on for about 3 weeks…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/37-e1373316945658.jpg

Things were starting to come together though, just have to keep pressing on!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/38-e1373316968548.jpg

Carlos came by and did some flexing, we got some shit done and…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/39.jpg

The new car is alive! Finally. Took it to H2Oi and drove the car for probably about 14 hours total in one weekend. Everything was great!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/40-e1373316999867.jpg

Carlos put in some more work…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/42-e1373317048500.jpg

Decided that I needed to clean up the shop a bit and knock some walls down for more room. Looking way better! If you look in the background of some of my earlier pictures (where I am in the engine bay), you can see how fucked up this place was to begin with. So it’s a huge improvement for ~1 year.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/43-e1373317074353.jpg

Spray painted my Silvia front to match, put some Eurolines on and went to some car meets!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/44-e1373317094101.jpg

Hit up the last Slideways event ever! Didn’t do that well but I had a blast! I got the ‘Scariest Driver’ award!

Went to 100 Drifters of December and some people took pictures. Definitely had a lot of fun, can’t wait for next year! Car ran great for 2 days of constant abuse! It was now winter and I had a few months before any events. Time to make moves!

Peace out PBM skid pan!

Met someone who does body work and paint. We were able to come to a deal and quickly got to work on the car! First up was a bit a body work. I wasn’t too picky though, it’s a drift car.

Set up a booth in my shop and painted some stuff. What a job all this was…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/57-e1373317358836.jpg

WOW! What a difference. Couldn’t wait to get this thing back together. Things were really starting to fall in place at this point.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/61-e1373317441710.jpg
WAHHHH PSH!

I couldn’t believe what a difference it made. It felt like a whole new car. I was so stoked! Couldn’t wait to see it in the sunlight.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/62-e1373317485868.jpg

Got my car aligned, what a painful experience that was. I took it to a Subaru place because they had an 'in-ground' rack. However, in order to gain entrance to the rack you must first complete the obstacle course in the parking lot. Wut? Then the owner comes out, takes one look at my car, and says "You'll never make it on the rack, there's a metal lip on it". Then proceeds to walk away. Hey there, nice to meet ya, fuck you too. But the tech was cool and he promised me he would try his best to get it done for me! Awesome. I went to have a seat in the showroom where I proceeded to get treated like an idiot and ridiculed about my car for about two hours before my car was finally back on the ground. LETS GO! [For anyone wondering/local to Maryland, this was IAG (Integrity Auto Group) Performance in Westminister, MD. It's not my first time there, and all I can say about this group of goons is that they are the most cliquey, unprofessional idiots I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I stood at the counter for 10 minutes before anyone helped me, and when I said '240sx' it was like I stood up on the counter-top and yelled "I AM GAY!". People wouldn't even go near me. If you are living the low life and need and alignment I suggest you say fuck it, spend the $200 they will try to charge you on some tires and go fuck up the local business park!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/69-e1373317679710.jpg

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/70-e1373317697270.jpg

The 2013 season begins! Finally got to do some more drifts, and was starting to get settled down in the new car. Things were feeling good.

Next up was the Drift Valley IV event. It was a 3.5 hour drive from me, so I was alittle nervous about the trek. I would be a long way from home. So me and my dad set off for Shenadoah, VA. About 45 minutes in…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/71-e1373317721102.jpg

Then another 3 hours later…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/72-e1373317743305.jpg

At that point I was wondering what I should do. I felt like the day might be cursed, but I’d probably get pulled over 2 more times on the way home if I turned around. Fuck this, we’re going to have the best damn day of drifting ever!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/73.jpg

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/74-e1373317768865.jpg

Mw5JBr43EfU

Great success! Had some of the most fun I have ever had behind the wheel. Man I was pumped! Everything was working exactly how it is supposed to. Can’t wait to get back out to this track again. What a blast!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/75-e1373317838412.jpg

After the 4.5+ hour drive to Shenandoah I decided it was time for a trailer. I was tired of getting pulled over and harassed. This way I can sleep/drink coffee/etc. on the way to events.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/76-e1373317861763.jpg

Got a sweet deal on a Safety 21 13-point steel roll cage!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/77-e1373317882668.jpg

I couldn’t have been more happy with this cage. Amazing quality and great fitment! Fit right up with my Mazworx harness bar. It really came together nicely!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/79-e1373317928696.png

Went out for some more drifts. Decided to give Bridge course a try. Was finally starting to get the hang of it when…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/80-e1373317982576.jpg

BOOM! Tension rod let go. I was blown. Really cut my day short.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/81.png

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/82.jpg

I hate sitting there looking at my car when it’s broken, so I decided to lower it so I had something cool going on. I talked with PBM on the phone and they quickly had two new rod ends shipped out to me. They took good care of me.

I was back out in time for Hyperfest and got to hang out in the car show on Saturday and do some more drifting on Sunday! Had a blast and the car was driving great. I’m really starting to get a good feel for this car, just have to keep at it!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/woominkara-e1373482508395.jpg

Then I met up with my friend Paul who took some awesome pictures of my car! Big thanks to Paul. You should definitely go check them out at Bushido (http://www.teambushido.blogspot.com) if you haven’t already.

That brings us up to where the car currently sits. The goal for the rest of the year is to get time with the car! Whether it’s a drift event, car show, car meet, whatever. I’m just trying to spend time in the driver seat and get the car out there and let others see it. I’ve dedicated the last two years of my life to this car and it’s finally starting to come together. I couldn’t be more proud. I hope you enjoyed my story, I will try to keep this updated from time to time.

See, this is what I like. You drive the shit out of your car, but you have still kept it super clean. Too many fuck sticks think "it's just a drift car" and see that as an excuse to have a pos and make it a point to not even attempt to clean it up.

Awesome build and a great story. I'll be keeping tabs on this.

Thanks so much everyone! I really appreciate the comments. Whenever I get the time I will try to gather up all the stuff I have done recently to make an update, be sure to keep an eye out for that!!!

The first time the police stopped me was because he didn't see my tag ziptied to my bash bar. Fair enough, he was polite about it and let me go. However, the second time I was deep in the sticks of VA and the officer busted out the ruler and all. Fortunately, I only had my bash bars on and no bumper so I did not violate any 'bumper height' laws. He scratched his head a few times, circled the car, and gave me a strict talking to about how I need to pay attention when I am backing up in case I hit my fuel tank :cops:. Thankfully I was able to get out of there without any issues because I was 3.5 hours from home!

P.S. - No grids!!! They're TE-37, purchased from member azndoc on here. For quite the deal at that!

Nick, have you pulled the sr apart to see exactly where that tapping was coming from? I missed seeing you drive at DV.. I was at the dollar store using the bathroom. If you need to crap while in Shenandoah, I highly recommend the dollar store..

Thanks guys! I wanted it to be the 'story' of my car rather than pictures of receipts and a whole bunch of 'smoke-and-mirrors'. I am happy that everyone enjoys my story, I am sharing it in hope to inspire others. I purchased my first set of tools at the same time I purchased the white car and learned everything as I went. I have completed all the work on the car except for the paint (which I was able to lend a helping hand throughout the process, at least). I bought this car with the intention to learn, and will continue to push my boundaries! I have a few great things up my sleeve for the car. Once I am over this next hurdle, I will have an awesome update for everyone! Thanks again, and stay tuned!

So finally a little update for you guys...

7/22/13
After pushing through one of the hardest and hottest weeks of my life (I am a landscaper in case you didn't know), I was more than psyched for Drift Valley. It was just the break I needed from real life. Unfortunately after all the time spent getting ready, loading up, and driving out there; I was only able to make about 6 passes before the inevitable happened... Rod knock! Thankfully I caught it before something ended up flying out the side of my block but it's still a total punch to the gut. But this is the hobby I chose so I'm going to take it like a man and push on through! NEVER GIVE UP! Before I was even halfway home arrangements were made to purchase Tom's (Ramonesfreak2010) blacktop SR. It works out great for both of us because I can keep my car going and Tommy Boy can finally rebuild his redtop and MAKE SOME F*CKING MOVES! So we came home, unloaded the car and I ate myself to sleep, like a teenage girl going through her first breakup.

Only made a few passes but I did manage to sneak in this video at 2:30!

But 8 a.m. Sunday morning hit, my eyes shot open and all I could think about was my busted car. So I got up, grabbed a few supplies, and headed straight to the shop. After a few hours on Sunday I had everything drained, removed, disconnected, and ready to go! I made great time and a lot of progress for the day. I was more than happy with what I was able to accomplish.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/motorready.png

Then Monday right after work, me and my Dad both dove right in. I love the days after work or long Saturdays working my my dad. It’s not only a great way to spend some time but we can come up with some pretty cool shit by bouncing ideas off of each other, and using parts here and parts there. We are both blown away at what we have been able to accomplish so far, and can’t wait to see what we can come up with in the future. We really make a great team working on the car. So we were able to pop the motor out of the car in no time on Monday. Now I have to begin the teardown of my motor to have all the parts ready for the new block, when it arrives. So far things have been rolling along pretty well and I am hoping to keep my momentum rolling! I am really glad I got on it right after it happened and I didn’t let it sit. It’s gives you a good feeling to know there is something out there that can wake up the determined beast in you!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/motorout.png

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/coreout.png

I also got a wild hair up my ass and decided to cut my core support off… I must have had too much coffee this morning. More on that later…

On a lighter note, Pedobro Paul and I both have been accepted to show our cars at WekEast in August! It is a great honor for the both of us and is sure to be a great time! If you have nothing going on the weekend of August 25 come check out both of our cars at the NJ Expo & Convention Center! This will be my first time taking the car to a pre-selected type of car show and I am anxious to see what people think of it. It feels really good to have accomplished my main goal throughout this build, to transcend the boundaries of your typical drift car and build a car that can both be driven hard on the track and still be taken seriously at a car show. With that said I have to get back to working on this damn thing so I can have it ready in time! See you all at WekEast on the 25th and the Swing Set Matsuri on the 31st!

My arms are sore… my neck is sore… my legs are sore… my brain is sore… BUT MY CAR IS ALIVE! Since I blew my motor it has been a constant grind. Every bit of my spare time has been devoted to my car for the last ~3 weeks. I couldn’t stand to see it sitting there that way, I had to get it back together!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/1.jpg

We left off with the motor out of the car. It was a relief to have the hurt motor out of the car, but I wasn’t even halfway there. I have a deadline now, and work is in full swing this season… time to grind! As soon as I could find a day off work I ran over to my friends house to pick up the new SR. Once I was able to get it back to my shop I was able to really start banging on it. Every day I would get off work, grab a cup of coffee, and go to town (if I didn’t have to go to job #2)! I started with my core support. I had the idea of taking the OEM core support and making it removable. It’s pretty flimsy anyway, and it will make it so much easier to pull/work on the motor. I started off by making up a set of tabs that I could weld up to the core support. I mocked everything up, drilled the core support and got some bolts that seemed up to the job. It came out awesome! Yanking the motor out with it cut was a breeze too! As long as it holds up to the stress of drift, it was well worth the time!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/core.jpg

Next I had to switch all of my things from the old motor to the new motor, and get the new motor looking nice! Unfortunately, I was really buried in work so it was tough to find the time to get things done. But, you have to make time! Every spare second I was down in my dungeon working my balls off! At this point my tools were already spread all over the shop, and parts were filling up every available piece of flat space.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/2.jpg

I got another crazy idea in my head (probably too much coffee again) and decided to see if I could move the lines on the intake manifold around to clean things up. A bit of brain power and a couple hoses later and we were looking good!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/3.jpg

At this point I was waiting on some parts to arrive, but didn’t have any time to fuck around so I started putting the motor back together and hustled to get it in the car. Removable core support, IS AWESOME! Took 15 minutes from the time we lifted the motor, to the time it was in the subframe. Not bad…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/4.jpg

Again, more work… But Saturday I had an open schedule. Time to get shit done. Couldn’t find any help so I had to get creative…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/5.jpg

But I managed to get the exhaust and driveshaft in alone, boy did that suck. I need to get my bargain basement lift working! Spent the rest of the day doing small knick-knacks because I was leaving the core support off while I was awaiting parts. Finally, this smashed up box arrived from Austrailia…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/8.jpg

What’s in the box?

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/6.jpg

WOO HOO! Thanks Taarks! This thing is going to make people gasp for air! By now most of you are probably thinking ‘what the hell is that and why is he so psyched?’ Well, it is the new Taarks Low-Mount Powersteering bracket. I had visions of welding my own up like Nigel, but this is going to save me a lot of time and more-than-likely headache. Quick slapped it on because I was dying to see how it looked.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/7.jpg

Really awesome piece. The bracket is top-notch, comes with every nut and bolt you will need to install it. I would definitely recommend this piece to anyone. Now that we have that installed, let’s get this damn thing back together!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/9.jpg

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/10.jpg

Finally we got everything filled up and she fired right up! YES! Time to hit the street and make sure this thing is going to make a 3 hour trip to WekEast on August 25th!

I would like to take this chance to give a big thanks to my dad. He has been busting his ass as hard as I have since the motor popped. He is the only person in the world who is as connected to this car as I am. He is the only one who understands the feeling when it is broken, or feels the pride when it is running. He was right there with me every chance he got and he is the only one who can say that. If it wasn’t for him this would have been a hell of a lot more difficult process. When I don’t feel like working on the car, he is always there to call me a lazy bum or force me into working on this stupid-ass piece of 90′s shit Nissan. But together, we really get this shit done! WOLFPACK!

See you at WekEast! Hopefully I'll bump into some of you out there, don't be afraid to say hi!

Newbie question, what are the benefits of that P/S bracket?

wolfpack
08-08-2013, 04:51 AM
Thanks Santi! White coupes will rule the world!

The low-mount powersteering is really just to clean up the exhaust side of the motor. By moving the pump down to the empty void where the A/C compressor would sit, you free up a lot of room around the exhaust manifold/turbo. I can imagine that working in this area should be a breeze from now on. Also, if you are running an aftermarket reservoir, it makes it a lot easier to properly place. The pump is gravity fed so the reservoir needs to be mounted higher [than the pump]. With the pump in the original spot, it was tricky to find a place above the pump and out of the way. Not to mention the power steering pump is completely out of sight when the radiator and intercooler is installed, awesome!

Cool read.

Just a quick question. Why did you mount the air filter behind the rad? In my eyes it would be better to mount it lower down on the driver side of the bay as not to suck in the hot air flowing off the rad.

Hey thanks everyone! I appreciate all of your comments!!!

AdrenalineS14 - It's a Chase Bays kit, TBH I have no idea how long the lines are. They're all long though. I would just save yourself the money and buy a reservoir and make the lines yourself. I helped a friend make some and it's not difficult at all. Also, if you buy the proper fittings for the rack it won't piss all over the place all the time like the Chase Bays ones do :goyou:

208s14.5 - Thanks dude! Stickydiljoe hooked it up! The quality on that camera is AWESOME!!!

va240dude - The lip on the car is a Forcewerkz. I managed to get a hold of a genuine OEM lip with all of the brackets and weatherstripping... but I couldn't bear the thought of running it over on the highway. For now it hangs on my wall... :Ownedd:

alexander240 - I was sold a Bomex rear valance for a 'coupe'. Turns out it was a few inches short... it was a hatch valance. A little creativity and that is what I came up with!

Dolph_KYAS13 - That was my first thought as well... Originally the filter was right in front of where the A/C compressor would be. But after a few unintentional off-roading trips at the local track, my MAF was dirty. So with the low-mount power steering bracket being in the way anyway, I decided to switch the two around. So far, the car has been running great! This weekend will be my first time out drifting on the new motor setup, so we will see how it holds up to the punishment.

Again, thanks to everyone who took the time to read or comment on the build!

That's what i was thinking.... was like damn, that car's come a loooong way.

And then I realized he's one of those people who allegedly likes 240s, but who treats them like they're disposable.... ruining more and more cars out of our finite number.

Nice car, but causing the death of 240s is not cool. If you can drift it or let it rust, you can fix it.

Awesome build bro. Having a good attitude can make any project easier for sure. It's really cool that you and your pops can share a hobby like this, you don't hear about things like that anymore. The build is awesome in my eyes because your not spending 100 grand on parts with a crazy ass build but building a high caliber car on a budget like mine. I work a physical job outdoors too and my free time is almost all devoted to my car. Definitely inspiring dude, keep up the good stuff

MOTIVATED!!! That's what I want to hear! When you finish reading this you should immediately head to the garage to put in work!

Battles and VS-KF's are both 17x9.5 +15. Depending on the tire I may throw a 3mm slip-on behind them... I have some 18x10 +22 but as I get closer to the Earth they don't want to fit as well as the 9.5 +15. A hammer and some smaller tires for the front should fix this...

After a couple quick laps around the parking lot, I can already feel what a change the knuckles have made. I can't wait to get out on track and really see what they can do! I have just under a month until the last event of the season, and I'll have two full days to feel out the car and adjust my style to suit the new knuckles. Then it's back into the garage to get started on my winter project...

Thanks guys! I love working on the car with my dad, not only is it a good way to bring us together, but we make a pretty decent team for a bunch of 'shade-tree' mechanics. It also goes beyond just working on the car. My father got the drift bug just like I did. Ever since the first time he came out to an event he was hooked, and he has been a major help to me at every event since! He is always there at every event, ready to roll under the car at any given moment. He is such a big help behind the scenes, I couldn't be more thankful for everything he does. As far as power, no idea how much I am making right now... Just a stock SR on 10 pounds with basic bolt-ons. This winter I will be installing the Tomei M7960 that I scored locally (thanks again BoostinIX!!!). The plan is to run off the wastegate (~14-16 pounds) and see how the stock motor likes it. That should put me somewhere around the 300 horsepower mark, which is a reasonable jump from where I am at. While I learn to drift with that, I plan to rebuild the motor that gave up on me in July and have that ready for when I feel comfortable to take the next step up (or the other motor says 'fuck you!'). This will be my first time tackling any sort of serious power modification, and I would like to take it one step at a time and learn as I go. I am sure I will probably be able to have more fun with ~300 horsepower than my motor will be able to handle haha! :rawk:

Thanks guys! It's definitely been a long road, but everything is finally coming together and it was worth every second of it. It's amazing what a little hard work and some dedication can do! It's a strange feeling to look back at the early stages of the car and think about how far the car [and I] have come. I hope that this thread will motivate more people to chase your dream! I honestly never really read this build threads unless they are some insane swap which I must see done.

But gotta say man, this reminds me of every car project I have ever taken on.
Especially the first few when everything is still pretty scary haha.

Just started a MKII VW project and its the first time I mess with a watercooled VW, also first time I mess with something FWD. This thread honestly made me want to write up something for this MKII since its just so alien and wierd to me....

Any way bad ass car, bad ass build.

I work in the snow so I have not yet found the time to finish my project, but all of the parts are finally in place as of last week! I will be running a Tomei M7960, Nismo 740cc , and Nistune ECU. Big thanks to BoostinIX for the sweet local deal on the Tomei turbo.

Thanks! I didn't actually paint the car, a friend of mine did the painting. I did hang around and help out though, and can tell you the interior was a real pain. First off, getting the sound deadening out blows! Be ready to contort yourself in some weird positions trying to sand everything well. I didn't spray the inside, but it looked absolutely terrible. You're basically sitting in a cloud, so get some good protection for yourself. Take your time and mask everything off well, it will be less clean-up later. I have to say though, I am so glad I did it. It gets tons of looks, and tons of compliments. It looks awesome!

A bit of an update… Found some spare time and my dad [or the coffee] got me all revved up to start working! I had to grind down the motor mount bracket a few MM to clear the turbo, and painted that back up and reinstalled. Stuck the transmission back on and bolted everything up tight. No pictures of any of that, it’s mostly boring stuff.

Then I tossed the injectors in, Nismo 740cc.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/injectors.jpg

Stuck the new Tomei oil pan on! About time I got this…

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/oilpan.jpg

Then dropped the motor back in!

Now that the motor is back in I can do small tasks day-to-day and finally get it reassembled and ready for a tune! I have a few other things I plan to do, but I need to get the car running and drivable before I get concerned with other things.

I also took a quick picture of my interior. It came out pretty nice!

:naughty:

your car is sexyy !! i have a question , are your tailights tinted all red ? what did you use to make em like that ?

Thanks! Yes the tail lights are all red. I used this stuff called VHT Niteshades. It's a translucent red in a can. My first set came out terrible, and this set is okay... Sooner or later I will spray another spare set of tails and see if I can get them to come out better. Niteshades is really thin and watery. You have to spray the coats very thin, and very few. If you spray too much it starts to have a black-ish tint.

A bit of an update...
I've got just about everything either installed, or have some sort of solution. I am still looking for someone to tune the car. Unfortunately, it has been a bit harder than I anticipated. I have sent out a few e-mails... hopefully someone will get back to me. I hope to get the car running within the month. :hyper:

Also, I recieved a very special e-mail from Kunio at GTR-Garage last night... be sure to stay tuned!

Just throwing it out there for the OP- Instead of that Nightshades stuff, try Testors Candy Apple Red spray. It's model car paint but holds up very well. I've done it on several sets of taillights and they all still look fresh. If you prefer, after that, go over it with some high gloss clear...just a suggestion.

Thanks dude, I'll look into it. The Niteshades is a pain to work with. Whenever I do decide to do my tail lights right (hopefully this season), I will start with a clear tail light which will make the whole process much easier.

When we last left off, I had the motor in and it was time to reassemble everything and go for a tune. Well I began getting everything back together, and was well on my way. I felt about a week out from needing the tune, so I decided to give the tuner a call. Unfortunately, one of the more reputable local tuners said that he would not tune my Nistune (although it is listed on their website as one of the platforms they work with). Great... So I started to ask around. Sent some e-mails, made some phone calls... Nobody called back. The first drift event of the year is right around the corner and I still have a lot to get done! I spent the whole winter working like a maniac and hardly touched the car, so I was way behind on my 'plans' already. Kept working on the car and hoping for the best. Then, I finally got a hold of a tuner who was willing to tune my setup. Quickly buttoned everything up, raised it to 4x4 status :hey: (a friend tipped me off they would just call me back and charge shop labor to raise it anyway), and winched it up on the trailer! Here's how it was looking when I was right about finished...

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/dsc01365.jpg

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/dsc01371.jpg

Hauled it out for the tune... It was a bit nerve wracking, it is the first time I have done any of this. :bite:

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/dyno.jpg

It took a bit longer than I expected, but I finally got the call to start headed over to pick her up! I am just glad they didn't call and tell me my shit fell apart LOL. :Ownedd:

It did ~267 HP at ~15 PSI. Apparently the Tomei wastegate isn't doing me any favors, so I will look into upgrading to an electronic boost controller eventually.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/photo-7.jpg

I chose to keep the boost lower, because it is already ~60-70 HP jump from where I was at. I took a couple test laps around the lot when I got back, what a blast! :2f2f: I am going to have to start taking traction more seriously perhaps, my car is not set up for much grip.

Hopefully this will help?

Happy 3/26 everyone! In celebration, I have an update on the state of my 326power coilovers! :hyper:

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/dsc01390.jpg

All I can say so far, is that these are some seriously high quality coilovers. I was really on the fence about spending the money, being that there is hardly any information available… But at first sight, you can tell that these are some well-built pieces of equipment. I will go into more detail after I button a few things up and get the car out to the track, where I can really see what these coilovers can offer. Enough talking, heres some pictures!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/dsc01387.jpg

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/dsc01391.jpg

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/dsc01400.jpg

They come with some sweet spanner wrenches as well, to fit the awesome collar design that they have! More on that later...

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/dsc01401.jpg

Here is the front lowered all the way (with the collar still in) on 17′s. You could still take the collar out and go another ~1/2″ or so lower. Unfortunately my subframe was dragging on my flat concrete shop floor, so I had to raise it another 5 turns. Still unsure how this will do… my exhaust is in for it haha.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/dsc01402.jpg

Here is the final ride height in the rear. :wiggle:

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/dsc01419.jpg

Then I went ahead and took the car over to a local alignment place, that my friend Daniel had recommended. I was typically having to make a journey to find someone willing to align my car. When I arrived, they were extremely friendly and more than willing to align my car. What a relief! Alignment shops in the past have become very nervous, or even hostile (LOL don’t waste your time driving to IAG). The ramp to get into the place was pretty hairy though… but we were able to come up with an idea!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/photo-1-1.jpg

That trailer has come in handy in so many ways, it has surely more than paid for itself!

Andrew got it up on the rack and got everything back where I needed it.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/photo-2-1.jpg

Also, I managed to assemble my Tomei Trax LSD this weekend and stick that in the car! I am still in the process of breaking it in.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/dsc013811.jpg

That’s where I currently stand. I need to check out my exhaust because it’s just getting ravaged right now. I broke an exhaust hanger at the last drift event, and I can’t stand not to have it at this height. So far everything looks great, I just have a few more things to button up and I can head out to the track and see what she can do!

Oh yeah, I got a pretty cool package the other day as well…

The only issue now is the tension rod brackets, which I don't really mind. Could you go more into detail with your suspension setup, before your knuckles, because I love your stance and want to get my s14 to same way, also see you have a PBM FLCA tension rod combo, what did you have to do to run them properly?

Roll your fenders, lower your coils, and find some wheels that fit! The FLCA is what gives you the wild camber up front. To run extended FLCA you will need a longer inner tie-rod. I would recommend S14 Tein inner tie rods (and you will need to buy S14 outer as well, I recommend MOOG or Tein).

Fenders rolled, and my PBM comps are practically maxed out on 18x8.5 XT7s im thinking about extending my FLCA as i scored a dope deal on PBM tension rods so buying the combo you have would be redundant.

And Tein Inners are longer than OEM?

Oops, totally forgot that you mentioned you have an S14! The Tein tie rods are S14 length. I don't have a lot of experience with S14, so I really couldn't comment on how far you could push the FLCA with the Tein tie rods. I can tell you though, the PBM tie rods I run are very long and would definitely work if you pushed past the 'comfort zone' of the Tein. If you already have a nice set of tension rods, I wouldn't get excited about the tubular FLCA. Honestly, I think that it adds too many stress points. A lengthened OEM FLCA will do the job just fine, at a fraction of the cost.

I don't know if I missed it but: did you mention how the car handles now that you cut the rad support?? Do you feel much difference when cornering??
I am actually thinking of doing something similar to my AE86 since I am going to be running a KA and I know space is an issue with these swaps... any tips or advice??

I have zero experience with AE86, but as far as the rad support is concerned on my S13... it has been the most 'time-saving' modification that I have done yet. It makes pulling the motor a breeze! I was a bit wary to cut the core support off of my perfectly good car, but I am so glad I did it! If you look at the stock core support of an S13, you can twist it with your hands... It is a very weak piece of the chassis. If anything, I would say that it feels stronger now. I have not noticed any changes in handling with the removable core support. I also run a front strut tower bar at the track, which will soak up a lot of the energy in the front end. I would recommend this modification to anyone! But I would also recommend that you take your time and have a solid plan.

so chopping, extending and boxing it up my FLCA would be best :hyper:

This would be the best way for you to go, in my opinion. It is a tried and tested setup, that is proven to hold up... and costs a 1/3 of PBM FLCA. I extended a set 30mm for a friend and he loves them! Good luck!

Thanks man!! I appreciate the advice!! I think it is definitely something I want to do. And I can see how running a strut brace could help reinforce the rigidity in the front end. Thanks again!!

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/team.jpg

So at the last event, I kept running into issues with the car... I was able to press on and keep driving, but that car was not enjoying it. When I got home from the event, I began to look for the problem. Checked the spark plugs, tried another set of coilpacks, checked for boost/vacuum leaks, tried another MAF, replaced injector o-rings... Some things seemed to help, but nothing fixed the problem. I was stumped...I decided to yank my ECU out and make sure everything was well, but when I got the case out of the car I could hear something rattling around inside... :squint: Opened it up, and my Nistune daughterboard was laying in the bottom of the case. Awesome! :smash: Reassembled everything, and it seemed to be running fine. Headed out to the car show I had last posted about and had no issues. I was hoping that the board had not been damaged when it had fallen off, but I was wrong... I found out the night before the next drift event, while I was letting the car warm up. After it sat for about 20 minutes, the ECU lost connectivity and the motherboard reverted back to some sort of default programming. The car was struggling to idle, black smoke pouring out of the exhaust, and the check engine light was on. I frantically tried to find the solution, but was running out of time. I had a hard decision to make, and decided to pack the car up on the trailer and bring a few spare parts to the track with me hoping that I could fix it at the track the next morning...

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/blah.png

I got to the track and decided to try a spare coolant temperature sensor, since my problem seemed to be occuring when the car would get up to temp. Stuck it in there, let her warm up, and back to stumbling and smoking. It was worse than the last event, the car would hardly move under its own power. I ended up messing with the car most of the day, and couldn't get it to run right. We got tired of it and decided to pack up and head home. I got right on the car trying to find the problem... After much deliberation, I decided the ECU had to be the problem. I do not see any visible damage to the ECU, and do not understand the board enough to dive much deeper into it...

At this point, I was one week away from Club Loose East Coast Bash, and really wanted to try and make it out to that event. I went through the motor one more time, and made sure all seemed well. The car would run fine until the 20 minute mark, and then die out. Everything looked, and seemed healthy enough. I rushed to find a PowerFC and get the car over to my tuner. I only had a few days to work with, and he said he could squeeze me in... Awesome! Got everything together, and took the car over to MA-Motorsports. At this point, I had 3 days until the event. I got skunked the last weekend and really wanted to get back on the track. On Thursday I get the call from MA that cylinder 1 had low compression... F#@! :dead: I was in such a hurry trying to get the car ready, I didn't even bother to do a compression test since it seemed healthy enough... rookie mistake  What an emotional day. All sorts of thoughts rushing through my head... I had no idea what to do at this point. I was so frustrated and disappointed. Got everything together and headed over to pick the car up. That was a crappy ride... When we got there I was talking with some of the guys about which way I could head next... Someone had suggested to throw some heavy-weight oil in the motor, and give it a go! What could go wrong at this point? The motor was already damaged.

Got it back home and was rushing to find a solution to get the car running for just a day... The ECU was not operating, so I tossed in a stock ECU to see what it would do. The Z32 AFM would not allow the car to idle properly, so back in the stock AFM went. Car would idle great now... But drove like ass. I decided to dig around in the back of my shop and see what I could find... I came back out with a set of stock injectors and a manual boost controller. Turned the boost back to 10psi, tossed the stock injectors in... and the car was running fine! Despite one cylinder not being too happy... :ughd: Stayed up late prepping the car for the event, and even had to take off work the next day... The car seemed like it would be good enough to make it through the day. So I loaded up, and off we went.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/tunnel.png

I was a little nervous about the setup all day, I had just pieced it together and had zero time to test it. I had my fingers crossed, but had no idea what I was in for... Took it out for a test lap around the track and it seemed alright. Made a few passes around the track and was plagued with small stupid problems all day. The track was really rough for a low car, they told me I wouldn't make it around the track at tech . I didn't get a lot of runs with the crazy long lines, but I had a decent pass on the track with my frankenstein setup so I was happy. I just needed to get out there and get my fix.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/omg.png

I also forgot to mention, that somewhere in between all of this mess I finally recieved my Nismo R32 Skyline spoiler and got it painted and mounted to a spare trunk lid. I am loving how this thing looks!!! I will try to get better pictures sometime.

So I brought it back home and had some time to finally relax, and think about what I should do. It could be cheaper to rebuild one of my damaged SR, but it may cost me a lot of time. Our drift season is only a few events long, and I would like to be back at the next event and finish the rest of the season strong! So the plan is to find another stock SR local, and once everything is running well again I will rebuild one of the damaged SR to have as a spare.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/amigostyle.jpg

Carlos came by and we pulled the motor out. Now I need to strip all of my good parts off of it, and go pick up an SR that I found at one of the local importers. I only got a few passes in at the first track day before the car began to run weird, which I now know was the daughterboard falling off... :naw: So I have had a very limited amount of time driving this car at full-tilt... I can't wait to see what it is really capable of!

So we last left off with the blown motor out of the car... I began to call around to all the local importers, and it seemed that I did not have a whole lot to choose from. I found some time at work, and decided to just ride down and take a look. When I arrived, it was not long before I had each employee pulling me off to the side telling me that if I waited a few days they could give me the deal of a lifetime LOL . I did some searching through the shop, and found an automatic SR20DET blacktop tucked away in the back. It took a bit, but I finally explained to these guys that I wanted the automatic SR. Asked to see a compression test... wow, what a fiasco that was. :duh: Compression tester was leaking, battery was not charged, employees were just casually sitting around... I wasted my entire day at work. But I came home with a new motor!

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/photo-16.jpg

Stripped this motor down to the block, and put all of my parts on it. The automatic pilot bushing is a real pain in the ass! Eventually just caved in and bought the damn tool, which popped it out in a matter of seconds. I've been awfully busy, but it was coming together piece-by-piece. Finally, the motor was ready to go in the car!

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/photo-1-2.jpg

Kept chipping away at it every chance I got... Got everything hooked up!

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/photo-2-2.jpg

Finally got an appointment on the dyno to get the new PowerFC tuned! Took it over there and the fuel pump decided to die on me. :Ownedd: They found another one locally and put it in. Then the wastegate started to act up. :Ownedd: Some days this car will really test your patience...

But, worked past that and now the car is running again!!! :hyper: Buttoning up a few small odds and ends, and taking it out for some testing soon! :naughtyd:

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/apgar.png

Stay tuned!

I finally got my car back out!!! :rawk: I last left off with the car tuned, just a few more small things to do! I took the car out to get the alignment back in check, and spent some time under the car securing and protecting everything the best I possibly could. :Ownedd: Gave the whole car a once over, and we were ready to go!

Hauled the car Shenandoah Speedway for DriftValley 11. My last time here my motor gave out on me, and I was hoping to make the most of this trip! Got there early, and unloaded everything. Drove the car around the lot a bit and it was feeling solid, but I can't say I wasn't worried in the back of my mind.

Took it easy the first lap around, got it up into boost and everything felt smooth. After having just blew up the motor, I was a bit timid to push the pedal down all the way. Took it out again and started to push on it a bit. Everything still felt smooth, and at this point I was ready to give it everything it had. Went back out and and held the pedal all the way down through third and into the big bank...

What a fucking blast! To feel everything working in harmony made me feel a certain type of way. The way the car handles, the way the power comes on, the way the car sounds... It is the dream I have been chasing for years, and here I was sitting in the driver seat thrashing it for all its got!

Now everybody knows, a drift day rarely goes by without a little drama... Sure enough, I was tinkering with the car a bit between run groups and got distracted. Buttoned everything up and got back out for my run group. First.. second.. third.. clutch kick.. wide-open throttle... aaaand my hood flies up! :Owned: Mother fucker! I couldn't believe it happened. For a second I didn't even realize what was going on. Drove off track and all of my people were just waiting to see my reaction... I knew the hood was toast, and I could see the sunroof was smashed. But the windshield and roof were fine. Removed the sunroof, tossed the hood in the grass, and got the fuck back out there! Not letting some stupid shit like that hold me back, no way!

Got back out there and drove better than I had all day. The smoke was pouring out and my speed was picking up each and every run. Of course somewhere in between all this I mashed a cone in third gear and tore my new Aero bumper up, but I'll fix that later. A friend of mine had been bugging me to tandem [for my first time], but I had not been feeling it up until the end of the day. He pulled up next to me in line, and I already knew what he was going to ask. I give him the thumbs up and he jumped in front of me in line. What a fucking blast that was! I managed to keep up (with a 600hp car) and was really rolling some coal! Probably one of the best runs I had of the day, and of my life. I was stoked!

Got home and found a spare hood hinge and switched out the remnants of my Aero bumper for a bash bar, in preparation for the next day. Hauled the car out to Summit Point Motorsports Park for the Drift Nirvana event. This was my first time drifting two days back-to-back, and probably my last. I could hardly wake myself up in the morning, as opposed to waking up 30 minutes before my alarm on a usual drift day. We dragged ass out to the track, slapped the car together, and I was out on track again! I was on the same track that claimed my tension rod last year, and is a terrible track for low cars. However, it is a pretty 'standard' course in our area and I need to learn how to drive it. Spent most of the day fighting my suspension as I rode up and down the waves of asphalt, listening to the symphony of my frame rails grinding off in unison. But I made the best of it and finally started to get the hang of the track. Towards the end of the day I made a few respectable passes and I left happy.

I was running the Expreme manifold and turbo outlet when I was still on the stock turbo. I have been using the Expreme manifold for two years now with no complaints! It is a high-quality piece, as you would expect from Tomei. The turbo is what really changed the sound of the car. It has a very signature sound compared to any of the other SR20's at the local track. I love it!

Grab a cup of coffee and a pack of cigarettes, this is about to get awfully interesting...

After many long, hard weeks at work...it was finally time to head to the track! I had no time to mess with the car in between events, I was just hoping to load up and head out. It was a small event so I was not worried about things like bumper and headlights, I was just hoping to get some good practice in. I got to the track, unloaded everything, and set up our area. I was switching my rear wheels to ones that actually had some tread, when one of the lugs decided to start rolling in the hub. I spent the majority of the morning fucking around with that, and was becoming very frustrated. My friend Adam had a goliath electric impact gun, which finally extracted the lug nut. So out on track I went. I only made a few passes before it happened… I was coming in hot, yanked the handbrake, and the car did not respond. I am still not sure why, it all happened so fast. I had came in fast and wide, without much room for error. I tried to stop the car using the foot brake but there was not enough space. I went hurdling in to the wall in third gear. So many thoughts were rushing through my head. It all felt like a bad dream. I could not believe what had just happened. This could quite easily have been one of the worst moments of my life. Physically, I was fine. Mentally, I was crushed. As I sat there looking at my car, I couldn’t help but think of all the great times I have had with the car. It was such a shame to see the car that way, it still bothers me to this day. However, there was one thing I knew for sure… I couldn’t let this get me down! I did not come this far to go out this way. I have way too much invested in this to stop now.

As soon as I arrived home I knew I had to get to work. I wanted to prove to myself that I could beat this. This was by far the most serious accident I have had on track, and I knew it was really going to test me. I had to push all my emotions to the side, and get the fuck to work! I began furiously tearing apart what was left of the car. The next day the motor was out, sitting on a pallet. I assessed the damage, and began to make a list of what would need to be replaced. This list was staggering, to say the least.

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/photo-1.jpg

Thankfully, I had a hatch sitting around. I had found the car on Craigslist for cheap, and jumped on the opportunity. I had plans to use it for something to cruise around in, but never had the chance to get the pissy little single-cam up to par. So it sat and sat, until finally one day it was pulled in to my garage. I worked on it every single day. I would set small goals to get done each day, then start thinking of what I could do the next day. I did my best to keep the parts flowing in, so I could stay working. I worked on the car as much as I possibly could, I wanted to get the new car running and out on track ASAP! I would work every weekday from about 5 p.m. until around 10 or 11 p.m., only taking a break to eat. Weekends I would usually get started by noon and work until around 4 or 5 a.m. Some nights I could not find any help, and would have to work alone in to the wee hours of the night. I am pretty sure I was going crazy, but I couldn’t stop. I had one thing on my mind, building my new car. It became hard to concentrate on real life. I was missing a lot of sleep, and it was dragging me down. But I kept pressing on, giving it 100% of what I had.

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/photo-3.jpg

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/photo-11.jpg

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/photo-31.jpg

For the first few weeks, I was really feeling overburdened. I was still bothered by the loss of my old car, and progression seemed very slow on the new car. Finally, after about three weeks, the new car began to take shape. After all the hard work, I was finally beginning to feel a connection with the new car. Progression was picking up and I was becoming very excited. At the rate things were going, it was looking like I may be able to make the next drift event that was on my schedule! Despite my serious lack of sleep, the excitement provided me enough energy to continue pushing on in to the fourth week. Which is, of course, when I started to become very sick. I knew that if I could keep the pace at which I was working, that I could be at the next event like I never missed a beat. However, it was steadily becoming more and more difficult to continue on.

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/photo-4.jpg

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/photo-2.jpg

But, I kept visions of the next event in my head and worked towards it with everything I had! I found myself working on the car until around 9:30 p.m. the night before the event. Which is extremely out-of-character for me… unfortunately, I had no other options. At around 9:30 p.m. the night before the event, I decided that the car was ready to be taken to the track and tested. There was still some interior/exterior work to be done, but the car felt sound mechanically. We loaded up and quickly went to ‘sleep’ before the big day. I could hardly shut my eyes though, as I went through everything I had done in my head.

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/photo-21.jpg

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/photo-32.jpg

We woke up bright and early the next morning, and begun the trek out to the track. It was a very tense ride up, all I could think about was the car. Did I rush through it too quickly? Is it ready for the track? Did I tighten that bolt enough? Finally, after a long three hours, we arrived at Shenandoah Speedway. It was a weird feeling for me. A combination of ‘nervous-as-a-motherfucker’ and ‘so-happy-that-I-want-to-scream’. Here I was, back at the same place that I crashed, exactly one month and four days later. With a brand-new car ready to fuck shit up! I cannot explain to you how great it felt to beat the crash like that. As soon as I passed through the gates a giant shit-eating grin took over my face, and I am not sure that it ever left until the weekend was over.

We unloaded the car off the trailer and I was quickly greeted by a few ‘WTF?!’ faces. I was so busy working on the car, that I hardly had any time to post what was going on and not a lot of people thought I would be driving the next event. I teched the car in, and started getting ready for the track. The first few passes back out there were strange… I felt a whole new respect for the track. I spent a few laps just driving the course. Feeling out not only the car, but myself as well. I could already tell it was going to be weird throwing the new car back at the same wall that claimed the old one. After a few laps and some small adjustments, the car was feeling solid and I was ready to get it sideways. I started on the small, open turns in the infield. Just trying to get back in the groove. Let the steering wheel spin a bit, stab the throttle a few times… I was feeling pretty good. I decided the best place to try and get back up to speed, would be the second-to-third gear turn coming out of the infield on to the bank. I came through the infield, hit the limiter in second and latched third as I started to get close to the clipping point. The car jumped around the point just as I had planned, and the smoke started rolling. It felt so good to be back out there again! The new car was felt solid. It ran great all day despite wanting to heat up after too many passes, which was expected in the hot summer weather. Once I was feeling settled in, I decided to run the solo comp for the hell of it and ended up taking home first place! The ride home was much more relaxed, the new car had done it’s duty. It took a full day of hard drifting, and I even brought home a trophy with it!

Now I need to go back through all of my work to check everything for the umpteenth time, and start on getting this thing painted! I still feel strange about the loss of the old car, but I am excited to see what the new car could bring.

http://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/nd2.png

I would also like to take a second to thank my father (again). Throughout this entire process, he was there every chance he could get. He is willing to push himself, as hard as I am willing to push myself. Once we got in to weeks 3 and 4, we both started to become really worn out. You could see it in our faces. We began to constantly bicker about stupid shit, and it would even get pretty serious sometimes. But we managed to stick it out, and build yet another track-proven machine. I can’t thank you enough for all your help; whether it is laying under the car with me, or just giving me your straight-up honest opinion (even when you know I don’t want to hear it). It’s awesome to think about how we are still kicking after all these years, here’s to many more!

I would also like to thank Thomas. Probably one of the coolest dudes that I have met through this ‘junky-old-Nissan’ obsession. I appreciate all the tools you loaned me, and all those late nights you spent in the shop helping me!

No major updates, but I have gotten a few small things done. I received my bash bar, Street Faction gets an A+ on that! Great fitment and quality welding. Got my front bumper on, and installed some blue Raybrig headlights. The front end looks so much better now! Also put some Kouki rear valances on. She's getting there! :naughty:

I also got the [awesome] opportunity to do a demonstration! What a blast! I am very grateful for this opportunity, and would like to thank Ben Williams for inviting me along. I sure hope there are more of these in my future! :rawk:

So my father and I both had birthday's coming up (November 30 and December 1)... When my mother asked what we would like to do for our birthday's, it didn't take much thinking to come to an agreement. We got on the phone with the owner of the local track, and booked the track for the weekend of our birthday's!!! We were beyond excited! Not only for a bad-ass birthday party, but to be hosting our first event as well! I quickly got in touch with all of my closest friends and told them to start getting their cars ready!!! :naughty:

Of course... It decided to snow the week of the event! :rant2: We were really bummed, and figured the event would be called off. I decided to press on, and keep prepping the cars anyway. Worst come to worst, everything would be ready for the next time I need it. My father called up the owner of the track the day before the event to see how things were looking. He was not very optimistic, but said he would ride over to the track and give us a call. Minutes felt like hours as we awaited the call back. Finally the phone rang, and we were informed that although everything around the track was still covered in snow, the track itself had all melted off and would be ready to go! :hyper:

We were not sure if the event would go on, so we were a bit behind schedule! We rushed to get everything packed up and ready. But come 6 a.m. Saturday morning, we were all loaded up and ready to go!

We quickly set-up as the drivers started to roll in. By the time everyone had arrived, everything was set up and we were ready to rock! What would ensue, would be some of the most fun I have ever had at a track in my entire life!

Happy New Year everyone! :w00t: 2014 was a blast, and I'm going to try and make 2015 even better! I have spent some time cleaning up the hellacious mess I made in my shop throughout the season. :keke: Organizing what I need, and getting rid of what I don't need. It's looking much better already! I have made a lot of space and it will be much easier to work now.

Hopefully you will get to see a bit more of my S14 Kouki this year! I bought it at auction a while back, it has a bit of front end damage but is extremely clean otherwise. I have not had much time to work on it due to how hectic last season was... But with the season finally over, I found some time to put a bit of work in. Expect to see more of this car in 2015!

Wow, what a winter it was. It started off slow, but once it got going I was extremely busy! I didn't have much time for the car other than collecting parts. When I heard that the first event of the season would be a month earlier than usual, I knew I had to kick things in to gear! :2f2f:

I had all of the pieces for my oil cooler setup so I want ahead and installed all of that. I used Earl's lines/fittings and oil filter adapter, Tomei N2 oil block (thanks Thomas!), and a Setrab cooler. I mounted the cooler just above the center vent in the Type-X bumper, with a slight angle down towards the vent. I also went ahead and switched back to a clutch fan setup, using a GKTech fan, brand new OEM fan clutch, and a brand new OEM fan shroud. Last season I was having trouble with the temperature creeping up after multiple laps, and I was set on fixing that!

Once the car was mechanically sound, I reassembled all the body panels and the car saw it's final wet sand and buff. I am really pleased with how the car came out! I took it back to the garage, and went over everything one last time before the first drift event of the season. Everything checked out, and all we had to do was load up.

Then... It started snowing again. What the hell? :rant2: At this point the car was the shiniest it has ever been... So I held back and tried to wait it out. I swept the 2 inches of snow from the bed of my truck and wedged it in the garage to start loading up. Thankfully the snow finished up just in the nick of time for me to get the car on the trailer and a couple hours of sleep.

My eyes burst open, and it already knew what time it was! Filled up my giant coffee mug (thanks Mom! :hs:), and off we went! I was very excited for everyone to see the car. It was not 'finished' until the day before the event, so nobody had seen it yet. I had developed a reputation for having the 'white car', and it felt good to be living up to that again. The car was very well recieved, and now it was time to put it to the test.

I had not driven the car in months, so I took it easy the first few laps. As the day went on, I became more and more comfortable. By the end of the day I was feeling really good, and had a handful of great passes! The car really felt solid, and the temperature was staying right where it should even as the line got shorter and the runs more frequent. The day was a great success, and an awesome start to the season! Stay tuned for some cool pictures and video!!! :naughty:

What are you running for the rear differential/axle setup? Currently having trouble with mine at very low ride height. What do you run for rear camber degree?

S13 diff and axles. Not sure on rear camber, I am in need of an alignment.

I'm guessing that's oem axles and not any Autozone/Oreilly's brand, since I always break those shortly after installing them... No axle spacers or anything like that? Maybe now that i installed oem axles i'll be ok.

Steve, Thomas hit the nail on the head, it's an Earls block. Nice piece!

As soon as the first event was finished, we got the car back home and all of the interior out. The bolt-in cage was taken out, and the car went to MA-Motorsports where Dylan Hughes fabbed up a sweet cage! Awesome fitment, and the bars are stitched straight to the chassis. Definitely happy how it turned out.

Then I threw on a set of GKTech e-brake extenders that my friend Corey Landis gave to me! Thanks a bunch dude!

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/dsc03133.jpg

Buttoned everything up and it was off to Summit Point Motorsports Park for their first drift event in years on the Washington Circuit (kart track). I had a good time. Got in a bunch of runs with my friend Ivan and managed not to drive up on to any of the giant grass mounds haha! The e-brake extenders were great! Made a huge difference. The rear will now lock up with very minimal effort. Definitely recommended to anyone who isn't looking to run a hydro!

Brought the car back, quickly went over everything and back on the trailer it went. We were off to Drift Valley 15. Had a bunch of great runs in the morning, but the day was cut short by rain and issues with the fuel pump in the afternoon. All-in-all it was a good day!

I also had a run of t-shirts printed with the car on them! Stoked how they came out!

Then the new issue of USDM Freax came out... Where they have a whole page about the Wolfpack! :naughty: Huge thanks to my friend Paul Fregeolle for making this happen! Haven't got my hands on a copy yet, but I have a few on the way!

Wow! It has been a while since I have gotten a chance to update!

When we left off, I was in the midst of getting the car ready for East Coast Bash. I had got a few laps in when all of a sudden my car cut off on me coming in to the first turn. :ugh: I went back to the pits and went over the car in search of the culprit. I thought I had found the problem! But sure enough, after a few passes the car cut off again and I decided to call it a day. Still had fun and got in a few solid passes!

https://wolfp4ck.files.wordpress.com/2015/06/ak1.jpg

Brought the car back to the shop and dug through it to make sure that it was ready for May Matsuri. Also took the time to do some much-needed maintenance to the car. When everything was ready we packed up and headed to May Matsuri! These events run a bit later than typical events around here, so I was excited to get a few passes in under the lights! The event went smoothly and the car ran great! I had a blast and managed to win second place in the solo competition!

Next up was Drift Valley 16, where my day was cut short by a stray cone on course! :rant2: I came out of the infield and was picking up speed fast. I nailed the manji and threw it in to the bank hard, when my eyes locked with a cone laying in the middle of the bank. I was in a tough spot, with very little time to make a decision. I decided to stay in it and try to go around the cone, but it didn't work. The cone got sucked so far underneath my car that it shredded my power steering belt! I had never shredded up a belt at the track before, and didn't have any with me. The track is in a remote location, and the local part stores are not usually much help. You live and you learn!

The next event was July Matsuri! I wanted to make the most out of this event because it was the last time I would get to practice before USDrift Round 3! Of course it was raining the whole ride up, and the forecast wasn't looking too good. But we pushed on! Finally, we arrived to the track only to be greeted by some of the hardest rain I have seen all year. I was less than pleased, but we waited it out. The weather broke and we quickly got the car off the trailer and ready to go! It was very wet the first few laps so I decided to park it for a bit and hope the track would dry up. The sun popped up one last time for the evening, and the track dried up so back out I went! I ran the car hard all night, only taking breaks to change the tires! It turned out to be a great event, and I surely got in the practice that I was looking for!

Brought the car back, and went over it one last time before USDrift. Stocked up on tires and off we went! I was stoked that USDrift was coming to my home track, and was excited to give it a shot. Got the car unloaded and prepared, and went out for practice. Everything was running smooth, and I was able to make the absolute most out of my practice time. The time came for qualifying and I was ready to go! Took two solid passes and it was back to the pits to wait...

The time came to announce the qualifiers, and my name was called! 13th place! I was stoked! Having never drove one of these events before, I had no idea what to expect. The level of competition was much higher than I was used to. So I quickly went back to prepare the car for my battle against Tyler Nelson.

He was a fast driver, which was never really my strong suit. I knew I would have to keep the pedal down for this battle! We lined up, and took two awesome passes when we pulled back up to the line for the results. One more time!!! Back to the pits I went, where my friends were waiting with a pair of tires and a jack. We lined up for the second time, where I spun on my lead run and Tyler took the win. It was an awesome experience, and I learned a lot! I couldn't ask for more from my first serious competition!
