was just thinking about silvia S12's...dont you guys think they're pretty cool? they look just like hachi rokus, and better yet, they were available here with a CA20ET, a CA18ET, or even the VG30E! all of them had the CA20ET, except the 84-86 "200sx turbo" which received the CA18ET (just like the CA18DET but SOHC), and the 87-88 "200sx SE", which received the VG30E motor, which is the SOHC 3.0-litre v6 found in the 300zx. better yet, they look dope as fuck...heres some examples:

in japan and i think at times in europe, this car was also available with the FJ20DET engine (pushes about the same HP and torque as the CA18DET), and was called the Silvia S12 or the Gazelle.

these cars would make an awesome drift car, and great alternative to finding an old hachi, wouldnt you say?

wow was looking at some auto classifieds and found an excellent condition 1985 200sx-Turbo with 95k miles for $1,900. check your paper, looks like these can still be found cheap and in relatively good condition, if you look hard enough

No offense but there UGLY. and like i mentioned in the CA18DET topic, the ca18et is not nearly as reliable as the ca18det, the exhaust manifold in the ca18et is known to crack after just slight increases in boost, and it's power output isn't that great either. As for the ones with the VG30E I would rather have a 300ZX then you have a good looking car and have the option of getting a VG30DET, but if you like the S12 more power to ya.

Let me reiterate the CA20E comes with 102 HP while the CA18ET comes with 120 HP, like i said before they are known to crack there exhaust manifolds rather easily and don't have the fancy gizmos that make the ca18det great and is not as closely related to the CA18DET as the name would indicate

would be dope to swap in the FJ20ET tho...200 hp stock...and its not ugly, just old school...i bet kids 10 or 15 yrs from now will look at s13's and say they're ugly as sin...####, i cant believe i just said that...nevermind

I'm sure they were pretty dope back then. They look like the old-school USDM Accords. CrazyCuban is right--ten years from now, some kid will think that S13s are pieces of crap. What can you do?

Some cars look good no matter when they were made, so i don't see how that has anything to do with it. I don't like the way it looks period. There are better looking 80's cars out there. But if there your style then good for you.

personally, I think that is one sweet looking car. I always was one for the boxy look though.

maybe the ca18et could take a ca18det head/manifold/turbo setup?

yeah the FJ20DET engine is pretty mean, and is somewhat available here. i personally love the looks of the S12 hatch though, i mean, i thas the look of the hachi-roku, but just...looks alot cleaner. the s12 coupe looked alot like the corolla coupe, too, but it did come first, so i think toyota pretty much ripped off nissan's awesome design. Nissan has always been a design innovator, using german designers and pretty much defining the looks of japanese cars for a long time, starting with the Z. not to mention being so technologically advanced...we should all love nissan

i'll buy one of those for my daily driver...i didn't want the old school celicas....but this will do....

Was the s12 JDM only, or was there a US spec model?

nope, 200sx we get is just the same as the S12 variants...comes in coupe or hatch. there were some minor differences here and there im sure, but they look pretty much just the same. i believe our turbo model even got the same hoodscoop. other than the lack of the FJ20DET, we got pretty much the same car, for once.

my friend got one just like the one in the first picture, but white n automatic for $100 off of some ppl that his family was real good friends w/. i actually thought the car was pretty dope in an old school way. if i saw one real cheap i'd definitely buy one.

yeah i think the coupe looks ugly. the corolla GTS coupe also looks ugly. the s12 hatch is awesome, and so is the corolla hatch. what a coincidence. people would mistake your car for a hachi if you shaved the badges, i bet, but ask why the front end looks so cool.

The top of the line JDM S12 is known as the Gazelle, and all exported models were rebadged Gazelles (most know as 200sx). The FJ20ET (note the FJ was the only DOHC engine code that doesn't feature the "D") was 190hp non-intercooler and had a .63A/R housing and a 7.5:1 comp ratio, which means you can really turn up the boost and put down the power with minimal effort. The Silvia also came with the CA18DET, although non-intercooled.

A solid axel FJ S12 is said to be a good hachi contender, in fact there is a 675ps one running around in Japan somewhere.

my friend has one a coupe.. its a alright car.. easy to drive.. had my very 1st RWD experience in that car.. scared me shitless.. anyways.. the S12 eventhough it resembles the AE86 isnt as good for drift because its very heavy, and it wasn't mass produced so parts weren't readlily availible .. but i dont see any reason why u couldn't drop a SR20 in there and make it a better drift maching than the S13-5...

They are pretty cool, cuz you hardly ever see them arround. But you have to admit, that the S13 was an improvement in just about every way over the S12.

I dunno about that. I think every generation of cars has their own place. In my mind it's not about making improvements from model to model (lookwise) It's about bringing in something new. Would you say that the s13 is much improved over the 240z? You can't really compare them. They both have thier own place where they belong. (if anyone says the junkyard....)
