THANK YOU FUCKING NAUGHTY DOG. SILVIA 180SX GTR, THANK YOU!
I'm just battled my way through what has to be one of the greatest games ever. Surreal graphic, intense story, deep fucking character development, and the perfect blend of puzzles, action and cut scenes.
It was challenging but not frustrating and the finished product was extremely well polished. No clipping, no crashing, no stupid bugs.
The story is intense, it makes you want to just keep going... and unlike those fuck faces at 2K Games and Bioware who can't figure the fuck out how to end a god damn game....
Holly RB26 the ending for "The Last of Us" was fucking amazing. It was perfect. I'm seriously writing them a letter thanking them for not fucking everything up.
Most satisfying game ever.
Book of Ely, The Road, Mad Max, Contagion, The Walking Dead, 28 Days Latter, MD Giest, and Children of Men all rolled into one epic saga.

I'm pretty sure we already had a thread about this. Actually, we were talking about it too in the PS4 thread. Finished this game last week and definitely one of the best game I've played. Definitely a must have for any console, not just the PS3.

It's that good. Go rent it. You can knock it out in 12-14 hours on normal if you are a "good" gamer. Extremely satisfying. I'm still reeling from it. I may have to buy it and try out multiplayer.

Searched, nothing came up. This game deserves it's own thread and not a sidebar in another one.
Last game that got me this pumped was Red Dead Redemption, and that was only because it seemingly would never end.
Game featured music by Gustavo Santaolalla, which totally rocked.

I was watching a video made by Naughty Dog and they believe in great story telling before anything else. You can make a game look like you're watching a movie but without a great story, its just a mediocare game. They've been doing this since Uncharted, Uncharted 2 has a great story and that game was fucking epic. Uncharted 3 was great too but the story wasnt as great as 2 and not as long game play wise. If you have not played Uncharted, you should jump on 2 and 3.
Oh yah, I fucking hated this stage...since its your first run in with a group of runners and a clicker.

It's completely warranted.

Agreed. I thought about making a thread a while back but I already brought it up in the PS4 thread and then we were all just talking about it in there. But it should have it's own thread considering this is, IMO, possibly the best game ever made.

THIS game is a reason to buy a PS3.
I honestly can't praise this game enough. i love the mixture of humans vs infected too as far as game play. Just when you may start getting fatigued fighting the infected the story takes you in another direction and you're at the edge of your seat again. That's good direction right there.
I'm only half way though even though I got it on the first day. I only get a couple hours a week to play it though. I had a really hard time the first time you come across the group of infected. Took me forever to figure it out, but then i got the hang of it. Patience is really your friend in this game, but in a way that doesn't frustrate the hell out of you.
I'd give this game a 27 out of 10.

imo top 10 one of best game i've ever played and best video game of this generation.
everything is outstanding.
the feeling of going through someones deserted home and seeing bits and pieces of their life before the infection like family photos or a baby's room is eerie and a feeling i have yet to have in a video game.
the human enemy ai is outstanding (never has a game made a room with only 2 or 3 enemies SO intense lol). the sound design is amazing. the random conversations between ellie and joel are well done and to see their relationship grow throughout the entire game was just brilliant. the game definitely deserves the hype.

IMO the human AI is lacking. If they see Ellie or any of the other NPC's it doesn't trigger their awareness. So many times I've seen Ellie run in front of an enemy and nothing happens. And once they do become aware sometimes they just stand there... If you stealth choke out one of their friend's and the dead body is laying right there, they will continue to patrol the area like seeing their dead friend isn't a warning sign.

I didn't get a chance to try myself but I recall someone mentioning that this is corrected on higher difficulties. They become more "sensitive".
I was also pleased that Ellie didn't set them of as that would have moved the game from "enjoyably challenging" to "annoyingly frustrating".
Just like how the game could have more been "real" had the enemy been able to shoot Ellie.

The AI are also great because they do respond to you. If you are fist fighting hunters, they get bold and surround you. If you are shooting them, they duck for cover. If you try to bunker down they try and flush you out and flank you.

Also, unlike Bioshock, GOW, ME, or even COD...
The amount of satisfaction from killing the sick fucks in that game is unreal.
You cant tell me after some of the shit they did to Joel, Ellie and other NPCs, it didn't fulfill a sense of primal vengeance to bash their heads in with a machete or execute their pathetic pleading sorry asses.

For me, the beginning was slow, but it starts to get better. A proper zombie game imo.
At first, i thought the graphics where bad, but that is only because i tend to play mostly pc games which have better specs than ps3, but i got used to the graphics and it doesn't bother me that much, no fault to the game, ps3 is just aging.

This is one of those games that you do not even have to bother playing. You can get the full effect from watching a walkthrough on Youtube. :)
Hopefully this game's reception will make more developers realize how important atmosphere and an immersing storyline can be to a game, instead of just focusing on mindless instant gratification, which seems to be the direction the gaming industry has been going in.

Thats part of that "instant gratification".
But then again, with "The Last of Us", you really do have a game that has the best graphics yet on a PS3.... with the amazing story and play.
Here is a review asking why Hollywood can produce movies with this level of emotional pull.
The Best Movie You’ll Play All Year (http://www.patheos.com/blogs/poptheology/2013/07/the-last-of-us/)
The geniuses behind The Last of Us also succeed brilliantly at doing something at which Hollywood filmmakers fail miserably over and over, namely showing the devastating effects that violent actions have on their perpetrators.
Youtube also has a "6 hour movie"... I accidentally got drawn into it and watched a half hour.

See, this is exactly why I hate games nowadays. 2 days nonstop? That's all? Shit man, it took me while to beat Tokyo Xtreme Racer: ZERO and that was with GameFAQ's telling me how to beat all the wanderers. What the hell ever happened to epic-long games that don't rely on multiplayer and DLC?!

Well, when another person said something about 12-14 hrs to complete, that kinda makes me feel like it's something I could beat in a week.
I guess because I grew up playing Wolfenstein: 3D and Star Wars: Dark Forces, I kinda grew used to not just walking through the game, ya know?

Always thought that Fallout (1 & 2) could make an amazing TV series, if done right of course. Hour-long episodes, each episode more or less based on a quest from the game. :)
There are plenty of games that are much better stories than what Hollywood is pumping out. This is definitely one of them.

Well, when another person said something about 12-14 hrs to complete, that kinda makes me feel like it's something I could beat in a week.
So what. I don't have 3 months of my life to dedicate to beating ONE game.
The game is extremely fulfilling, has replay value and tells a fantastic story. 12 solid physical playing hours is more than enough. Hind sight it may have been closer to 16hrs.
I guess because I grew up playing Wolfenstein: 3D and Star Wars: Dark Forces, I kinda grew used to not just walking through the game, ya know?
Neither of which have anything resembling a storyline. I don't think you can really build a good, single arch story around 50, 75, 150 hours of game play. It gets stretched out and it gets old.
Fallout has massive depth, but really no storyline. There is no real development of your character, you don't see the changes, interactions and growth of anyone around you. It's a fantastic universe, with deep back story, but it is not a character driven story. Is player interaction driven.
Games with massive play time, like FF7 for example, are like that because they often feature massive amounts of leveling, grinding and searching. Nothing like a hour long boss fight, right?
This does little to add to the actual story.
Tetris has some retarded long play time, however, I won't praise the story, emotional experience or even call it fulfilling.

The player is the character and makes his own storyline. Whether one beats the game without getting in a single fight or chooses to be the most evil being in the world, the storylines are equally interesting. There are plenty of opportunities be good or bad, or neither. Maybe not so much in Fallout 3 and up, but I pretend those do not exist.
Sorry for going off topic, but Fallout 1 & 2 are among my top favorite games ever, and I am quite sensitive. :)
Max Payne and Resident Evil were made into movies, I would not be surprised if The Last of Us follows. Though there is always the possibility of it turning out terrible.

I'm really liking this so far. Apart from the terrible companion AI when using stealth, the AI works really well IMO. Had a great moment just now, where I was busy checking something out and suddenly Ellie whispers: "Joel to your left". If she hasn't said anything they would have detected me, but this way I was able to hide quickly.
Many great moments like that.

Well, the producer actually talked about it. They tried it both ways, having the AI trigger fights when seen, he said it took too much out of the game and the testers got annoyed with it. They tried to make it less intrusive but they couldnt quite get it right. So they cheated and just made the NPC invisible to the enemy AI. I think they should have given the player the option. If it got annoying, then turn it off during game play.

Yeah, I understand the game play aspect of it. Honestly, they should have set it based on which difficulty you choose. For example, on the EASY setting, NPC's are ALWAYS invisible to the enemy AI. On the NORMAL setting, NPC's trigger enemy's awareness 50% of the time, and on the HARD setting, NPC's trigger the enemy's awareness 100% of the time. Something to that effect.
For me it takes away from the experience because it feels so real, and then I see Ellie run across 5 different hunters and Joel is choking out dudes when the other dudes are 5 feet away, kinda brings me back to reality and makes me realize I'm just watching a video game.

man I know this is old lol. But I finally bought my 5th game for the ps3 LOL. I have to say, probably the best console game I've ever played. I found it to be somewhat easy once you get the hang of things. I mean I was in reserve mode so bad that I only used the flamethrower once and it was because of a quick switch lol. I just liked to sneak and shiv/choke out when applicable. It was to the point that I was getting kind of pissed that I couldn't pick up any mats to make stuff. I would always preserve, it just feels wrong not being able to pick that stuff up haha. I also got the "left behind" story and while it was enjoyable, it ended right as I thought it was getting good haha. I played it then the "left behind" screen popped up. I was like damn that was one hell of a opening scene....oh wait....its over lol. Damn it man. Going on harder modes now.
