View Full Version : Loosing good amount of oil...
My engine is a stock KA with 175K on it. At around 130K I noticed that my oil levels were dropping where before it never dropped at all. Now I'm having to put an additional quart of oil in a 3 month period. I can't really tell if its smoking or not. It seems to run fine. I don't think there is any engine noise as long as I use 93 octane. Gas mileage is still the same at 22-23 city and 28-30mph highway.

Wipe it down, check for puddles... Check your PCV valve & make sure it isn't stuck open... If there are no leaks, then your rings are shot.
Its leaking a little bit of oil.. Probably around 3K miles in a 3 month period. Im surprised rings would be shot on a na engine with less than 200K miles on it.

Have you owned it since new? Never know how the PO's treated it.
Perfect world you would never have to add oil but a quart every oil change is within spec unfortunately.
Check cold compression and leak down to make sure the rings aren't gone.
As stated above check the pcv system for function and if its full of oil. The KA has it located in a horrible location low on the block behind the alternator. The block that bolts to the timing cover is supposed to be a oil separator. But, over time it gets loaded up with oil and gunk. Take that whole box the pcv screws into off the timing cover and take the PCV out of it then flush it clean with carb cleaner then install a new PCV. Then put the box back on with some RTV. Removing the alternator makes life 10x easier doing this. PCV line is the 4 line to 1 T-Bar to the intake manifold.

Wow I did not know about this. Im driving my first KA engine ever.
Forums still work! hooray!!!
Thanks for the informative and very thorough response!!! I don't know much about the pcv system but I take it that there is a chance that my engine may not have significant problems even though its loosing this much oil.
