Hey yall
Ive been reading through alot of threads off google

Ive rebuilt my motor and now its time to put the shims on
Local shop rebuilt the motor, machine work and internals install, and head work
They didnt have the tool to do the reshim
Im going to follow this thread
HOW TO: Measure Valve Shim Heights (Pics) - SR20 Forum (http://www.sr20forum.com/technical-information-library/145625-how-measure-valve-shim-heights-pics.html)

Why are the guides the same size but the shims come in multiple sizes?
Can i just machine down the shim side on the socker to the same size as the guide of the rocker and run all guides?

Im sure ill have more questions
Thank you for any input

I bought a digital caliper
Most of the shims are close to same tolerance
The right leg of the rocker as u face into the head needs to be shaved on each side of the so the guides will fit

Also picked up a depth digital guage
Hoping to build a tool tmrw so i can measure the valves to allow me to re-shim

Are lifters suppose to be hard to squeeze?

I understand you have to bleed them allowing oil inside
The head im working on....the lifters are veary easy to squeeze compare to my spare sr's lifters, i cant get to move by squeezing

Well, 3 out of 8 cylinders shims were to big
4 were .002 and 1 was .001
I have another head, taking the guides and shims out of it and measure them and see if i can get them all at .000 +/- 1

I still wanna know why the valve arent all the same size which causes the shim to be different sizes

Guides come in different sizes also. Use guides on all the valves, it will keep them from jumping out at higher RPM. File the rocker slightly to fit.

The valve height inside the head should be measured also.
