Ok so car ran fine before my Headgasket blew, s13 redtop. After I put the head back on and redid timing the car wouldn't start and caused it to flood. Cas was off. Fixed that and got car to start but died instantly.. nothing is leaking fuel and everything ran perfect before so I assume timings off by a tooth..
Is there a way that I can redo it with head on for instance can I take cams off and turn to tdc with crank pulley at 2nd notch and put cams back on at 10 and 12 on designated cam notch and presto?
I know I put the gold chain notch in correct place when building motor so it should end up on the cranks marked spot every 360 degrees right?
Much thanks.

You can do as you said. If the chain never slacked off the crank sprocket then you should be able to reset the cam gears with the correct chain and cam gear marks. The timing chain marks don't always line up at every tdc. It can take one or many full 360* turns to get the chain to line up with the tdc mark.
If I were you I would make sure it's on the compression stroke and the #1piston is at the highest point in the cylinder when the chain marks are in the right spot. Then reset cams and re-install cas. That is a good way to make sure the chain didnt slack during install and fall off the crank sprocket a tooth or two.

Yea I figured as long as gold chain mark is at crank and black chain marks are around 10 and 12 and crank pulley at 2nd mark just take off gears and reset. Hopefully the motor is good and cylinder walls aren't scorched and have to sell..

Sounds like you got the idea. Just as long as the chain didnt slack and fall off the crank when you pulled the head. Best of luck man.

I doubt it did. I bought new timing chain cover with the cast part that keeps chain from coming off crank. Will post up in a week the results.

Im pretty sure that even if the chain was slacked off the crank, As long as you line up the cam marks to 10 and 12 then count the links between the marks, then verify crank is at tdc.. Then the timing is golden.. If anyone who knows more that I cares to correct my method i would appreciate

I would pull timing cover off and verify everything is lined up. Some people may claim they can do it by hoping the bottom gear and chain stay on time, but do yourself a favor and do it right the first time. Then you can be confident it is done correctly. Just my 2 cents.

Nope correct, you cant even make the chain jump a link on the cam gears even with slack,(try it chain hits the head on the intake side) now I've heard people say their chain jump a link, but I call bs, that's an installation fukup..(why would it only jump 1 link spinning at 4500+rpm) he said 65mph it didn't feel right, I just assumed it was 4500rpm but whatever!
Sry for the long windedness, 5:00 & dude needs to pick up his car and payme

Ultimate your advice sounds good but risky lol. Ok here's what I've got after countless turns of the crank it looks like everything seems lined up! And the #1 cylinder seems to be at tdc..
Now I thought every 360 degrees it should land on 10-12 on the cam gears or am i wrong? Cause mine only line up like this every hundred turns lol..

It does kinda seem like the black notches are to the left one notch.. maybe move the cam gears clockwise one tooth? Cause the car will start but instantly flood.. then won't start again till dried
Can I get a bump for my thread plz

Your shit it way off, there are 11 links dot to dot. You are on 9links way off set the crank to tdc correctly, then remove the cams and position them correctly. It doesn't matter if the dots are correct now or later they are for installation.

Ok well as it sits the crank is on 2nd mark and piston at tdc. So I'm just going to mover the cam gears clockwise one tooth and reset cas.
Idk how valves didn't bend or anything.. but that's the plan.
Btw the #1 on the cam gear represents stock location.

My bad, at least you can fix it now. Are the lobes in the correct position?

I think its off by 5% or one tooth changing it now

Glad its running. For future reference, don't set the two dots on the cam gears to ten and 12. Set the two pins on the actual cams to ten and 12. Then count the links between the two dots.

Put a timing light on it set it to 15deg, then get it tuned!
