View Full Version : 5spd swap/turbo. almost done.
here are some pics. i'm using a garrett GT something.. it has a 4in inlet. i was told it is a GT28rs with a 4in inlet. anyone know if they make it like that?
i have the s14 Hybrid intercooler kit. the hot pipe fits except the inlet part of the hotpipe is 2in and the turbo compressor outlet is 2.5. so just cut the 2in off and weld a small section of 2.5.
using an sr20det turbo outlet, downpipe, and cat bypass.

still need a wastegate. i was going to weld on an hks external wastegate, but there is no room. and from the looks of it the internal wastegate actuator might hit the A/C line. i guess i have to wait till next week. anyone have a used HKS internal wastegate for sale? i want to get the car running...!

That would be a Garrett GT25R.. You NEED to run an external gate on that turbo.. The SR's pick up about 30-40whp with the external gate over the small internal gate. I think you might run into compressor surge issues though.. because of the compressor/turbine mismatch and running such a large displacement engine. That is an oddball turbo.. but it works decently on the SR.

That's not an SR. It's a KA. What manifold is that? Kind of looks like a re-head-flanged SR mani though.
Groupbuycenter has a Tial 38mm (same 2bolt flange as deltagate and 35mm) for $180.

i'll check out the tial tomarrow. i have 3 wastegate and none of them fit! oh well.

he knows it is not an sr. he is saying it works well on one.

what manifold is that?
what manifold is that?
it is the protoype. testing the fitment. fits nicely, but i had to weld on a wastegate tube. this wastegate hits the brake master cylinder. so a new one will have to be made. the finished product will be in stainless steel.
using the sr20det outlet and downpipe.
for some reason the downpipe is tills towards the motor. really close to the block. a bracket will have to be made to push the downpipe back out towards to steering shaft.
welded on the wastegate. now it doesn't fit.

i thought the wastegate came with the flanges. It didn't. So i got out the cutting saw and took it from one of my old manifolds.

Awesome! Bottom mount equal length KA manifold that uses SR downpipes.. excellent.

But oh well.. nice setup though
Im going to start working on mine after my finals next week :)

very smart idea to use the sr downpipe and outlet pipe. thats going to make a very easy KaT setup for all kinds of downpipe and intercooler setups . I like it a lot.
the only problem is that the downpipe almost up against the block. not sure if this is normal. with the turbo/manifold in, it pushes the downpipe back towards the steering shaft. this is putting a strain on the turbo manifold. i guess i will have to weld a small bracket to push it to the side and bolt it to the trans.
do you guys like the look of this manifold? i didn't want to make it like the standard sr20 manifolds you see out there..

yeah, and those welds look awesome. Is this going to have a T2 or t3 flange?

Doesn't that manifold make it hard to reach some of the bolts to the block?
the last pic is just so you guys can see how it will look. it will be bottom mounted with a t25 flange. don't know how much this will cost yet..
