So I know OTC has already passed , but I was thinking about doing my own little OTC in May.
May 20th-
Drive from San Jose to ButtonWillow for an event running on the East Loop (217 Miles) I should be able to get a lot of seat time at this event, so I am expecting around 200 track miles. When I'm done at ButtonWillow there is another even taking place at Willow Springs on May 22nd and the 23rd. Instead of spending the day in a hotel, I'm going to go to Huntington Beach (164 miles) and crash with friends for a day, the three S's, and then drive up to Willow Springs (128 miles).
May 22nd
On Saturday we are running counter-clockwise on The Streets of Willow. That should be fun since I've never been to Streets, and it doesn't seem like people run it counter-clockwise very often. I hear there are a lot of hills
here and I know my car won't accelerate up them very well so we¹ll see how I do. Drifting Pretty is supposed to be out here today running in their own
group so I should see a lot of 240's at the track. (When aren't there a lot
of 240's at the track these days?) The event organizer runs a pretty good
event so I think we'll get our full hour and a half of seat time today
unless something big happens. I'm not sure how many miles 1 1/2 hours
translates into but its probably somewhere around 100-120 track miles. Sleep
in a hotel and get some rest. By now I think I'll probably be under the car
at the Super 8 Motel fixing something in the dark.
May 23rd
Streets of Willow again, only fewer 240's and we run clockwise. I saw a
video of people running clockwise and the track looks pretty fast. Should be
a lot of fun. Hopefully the event runs smoother today than its 1st day out
and I get more track miles. I'll guess 100-120 again. Today is Sunday so
once the event closes its back in the car to drive home. 217 miles later I
should be back in San Jose.
May 28th
This Friday I'm going back down to ButtonWillow for another SpeedTrials USA
event. This one is on the full track, config 10. Config 10 has the kick ass
star mazda turn which is cool, but I think we are using this turn to space
out cars more on the track which means there might be a lot of cars at this
event. San Jose to ButtonWillow is 217 miles, and hopefully I get another
100+ track miles in today. After today¹s event I'm off to Huntington Beach
again to chill for a few days before the 31st. Tack on another 164 miles.
May 31st
Hunington Beach back to Willlow Springs and another 128 miles on the
odometer. Willow Springs, Fastest Track in the West. This track isn¹t
Streets, it's the 2.5 mile big track with huge sweepers and big elevation
changes. This is the track I need to remove my speed limiter for. Not that
its going to help much but every little bit counts. Hopefully I still have
tires by this point, I¹m trying to source some RA1's for this day but I'm
less than hopeful right now. Financials look like I'm going to buy Azenis
again. Oh well. I hear we can get up to 200 track miles with this event but
we'll see what it turns out to be. I've never run with them before. After
running today I might just crash for awhile to avoid the killer I-5 traffic
going north. 315 miles later I should be home again.
Hopefully 700 track miles, and 1600 highway miles. Not a bad trade off
really. The gas costs for all the highway driving is my only regret.
Will try to update with picts
