View Full Version : the new idiot
sup im new here and i got a question. i like many of u have a 93 240sx (a.k.a s13) i was wondering is it a good idea to save 5-6k up for an s15 sr20 or should i just boost the ka. given both have intake, exaust etc the basics. also ive heard that boosted sr20's work lag out better with reinforced internals? please correct me if im wrong thx

the only real diff with the s15 and other sr20's is the turbo (t28 instead of t25), the intercooler, and the cams. if you do a swap with another engine, unless you find a really good one, a FMIC is pretty much a given, and you could always get some JUN or TRUST cams and a bigger turbo to go along with it, and still not pay as much for the S15 swap...plus you really dont want the 6-speed, i've heard nothing but bad things about it

Another thing...the S15 has VVT (variable valve timing) which helps it produce its 250 factory hp, but it becomes a weak link with high hp applications....it's just a lot of little moving parts which is just more stuff that could fail under the added stress.

Between swapping an SR and building a KA, there really isn't a better choice (unless you're going way the #### up there in power). For the power you get out of an s15 SR, you could get a turbo kit for a bit less for your KA. The older engine models will be about comparable. The KA engine does have a torque advantage over the SR, though the SR has it's own benefits.
Most of us could come up with a hundred reasons to go with either setup. It all comes down to what you want with your car.

Personally I like the s13 sr20's more...they are cheaper, dont have to worry about the variable valve timing, and are pretty much a dime a dozen...as far as whether or not you should go turbo ka or sr...I think that is just a purely personal choice ya know...what ever works for yourself =D both engines have advantages and disadvantages over the other
