Coolant temp sensor question.

My coolant temp sensor has a black ground wire and a blue w/brown stripe wire going to it. I believe these are the correct wires. I can see the guy before me hacked the wires at one point. Is it possible to wire the sensor backwards? It looks like it only pugs into the harness one way?

It's a thermistor so it doesn't matter which way the wires are connected. Both wires go all the way back to the ECU because the ground side is analog signal ground, which is isolated from chassis ground.

I'm getting 4.87 volts to the plug is that correct?

The spec is 5V, but 4.87 is close enough.
