View Full Version : More of my pics from Japan-Bosozoku/old school/weird van meet at Daikoku, Yokohama

This was a meet at Daikoku in Yokohama a couple of days after January 1st. To celebrate the new year, bosozoku (motorcycle hooligans) cruise into Kamakura on motorcycles via the Shonan (like our PCH) in droves. Their other favorite mode of transport is an unregistered Mark II or Cresta (our Cressida) with its roof chopped off... The weekend after January 1st, they gather at Daikoku (a well-known spot for meets) for a huge meet at a rest stop... This is where I snapped these pics. The cars ranged from bozo'd out old school Laurels/Crestas/Skylines to crazy vans and flashing trucks...

The meet went on until 4am, when the police (all the red lights on the left) decided to shut it down, using Skyline GT-R police cars

Wow, great post. Looking forward to part 2. Those vans are incredible. What's with the cars that have the hoses and radiator sticking out front? Are those oil coolers? I can't understand why that would be a cool upgrade to show off like that. I like the scooters too. I think those were the only clean looking vehicles out there. I remember the "Who" movie, Quadraphenia, where the kids in England modified their scooters by having about 20 rear view mirrors all over the place. Its amazing how tacky, ugly mods can become popular.

hmm, in those last two pics, three pictured cars have what look like tow hooks attached w/ canvas straps...

ok, so to make my car "JDM TYT3" in 2004, i need to...
-mount an oil cooler on my front bumper
-fold up the bottom edge of my rear bumper for that "fast while standing still" look
-get some bondage gear and hang it from under my rear bumper
-take my DTM exhaust tips to the extreme by JB Weld-ing 5 foot extensions to them, maybe ending with a Hello Kitty shaped tip?

bling!

Holy shit their onto me! Don't bite my plan for ultimate show car domination! :hahano:

Actually oil coolers on the bumper stem from the no grill look, and the exhaust tip thing has been a big trend for atleast the last 5 years.

American Rice Philosophy - Wanting to look or be a certain way(fast, low, rich, or the new recent trend of looking like you have skill behind the wheel).

Japanese "rice" Philosophy - Taking something you like and doing it 500% all over your car. These guys have balls as far as 'art' is concerned.

Those are not tow-hooks.

They are handles from trains... Little rings that hang off the railings so that everyone has a spot to grab.

I'm definately NOT into that style. Hell, I can't get into the "rice" over here... let alone MOST EXTREME RICE CHALLENGE of that stuff.

However, they are definately creative. I'll give them that. Look at that star shaped exaust pipe. And train-car handles? Definately unique. Look at that CRAZY negative camber, too. YIKES!!

I pray that stuff does not catch on on this side of the ocean. But you know, some ricer is going to put 4' extensions on his tailpipes and call it JDM-MAD_TYTE YO!!!

However, the curled license plates look pretty good. I'm sure if done right, you can mold the license plate into the theme of the car... a little curl to accent the shape of the car. But, once again, I'm thinking of a much more subtle look than what they are displaying...
