View Full Version : Clutch pedal sticking, and random oil(?) leak

Clutch pedal randomly began sticking slightly after engaging 2 days ago. Read around and decided to bleed the clutch. I'm 90% sure it was bled correctly (used a vacc) which leads me to where I am now. It felt slightly better right after bleeding, 5 minutes later started getting squishier and squishier. That was 2 hours ago, and after driving a bit more it's pretty bad. Not sticking to floor, but right after engaging it doesn't move all the way up unless I push it with my foot.

Next up is master or slave cyl, but I saw no visible leaks on either which is leaving me confused.

While looking around for leaks I did find something...another leak of what I think is oil. This is where it is --

ideas on what to replace in both cases?

Did you change your clutch pedal?

I just had the same problem with my GF car replaced the Master and it was done.

How you know nothing is wrong with clutch slave and master? Did you ask a second person press on the clutch and see if your slave is pushing out much? The spot you're pointing is nowhere near anything related to the clutch...well maybe the slave. Second image, all I'm seeing is engine mount, starter, and ps rack.

Look at the diagnostics section of the FSM to figure this issue out.

First of all, pushing in the pedal DIS-engages the clutch from the flywheel....

If you can bleed it, but it gets squishier as you drive, the internal seals in the MC are probably leaking. A MC rebuild kit is hella-cheap... and a new MC is less than 20 bucks IIRC.

Another thing to look at is the clutch pedal bracket. If it is corroded, it will start to bend & eventually will snap.

However, this sounds like a MC issue. Usually, when the slave cyl seals blow, it will leak.

I know the oil is unrelated, sorry if I didn't make that clear enough..

as for the clutch pedal, no I haven't changed it. it was bled yesterday which didn't solve the problem. I'm fairly sure it's not rotting or anything of the sort. There are no visible leaks either, which leads me to the master cyl.

I know pressing it disengages. On the pedals way up, right after it engages, it sticks and i need to move it up the rest of the way with my foot. obvious lack of pressure somewhere.

wow I tired when I posted...

Check the back of your clutch pedal if it's dirty/wet well there's your problem for your clutch.

That oil leak is most likely your factory oil pressure sensor. They tend to develope a leak over the years. Replace it with a new one and you should be good to go.

As for the pedal not returning, have a buddy press on the pedal while you check out the slave cyl. See if it extends fully. If not start with replacing the cheapest part in that system, which I believe is the slave cylinder. If problem persists, move up to the MC. It's not a bad idea to replace them both if you never have.

You do not have the damper box still in the car correct?

Pedal not returning is certainly a Slave Cylinder issue
