View Full Version : What do you all think about this shift knob?

I like it but a friend of mine doesn't. Just wanted to know what you all think of it. I can't visualize what it would look like in an s14 but I think it would be pretty cool, not to mention comfortable.

I cut off my shift knob (the long skinny one), and grabbed one from a junkyard off an old Datsun. Can't read the shift pattern on top, and it's a plain black vinyl ball. The reason? It provided a nicer feeling shift. I'd say feel it first. I had a piston shift knob that looked hella cool, but is sucked ass to shift with. Slippery too.

It's better than some other's I've seen. It would look out of place if you dont' have any other brushed aluminum in your car, though. Whatever you get, check out both the shape and feel of the knob as well as how it would look in your car. I figger that style would be better suited for a WRX, 350z, or Audi
Here's an interior shot so you'll have some idea what it could look like. I still dono whether it would "fit" or not.

(no comments about the windshield please:))
I love leather and hate seams and I think the shape would feel really good soo thats the main thing i'm goin for. If you all know of another seamless leather shiftknob with a nice shape, leme know.
i dont know why but i love that interior pic,
s13 interior are sweet,
I dono if you saw my sig, but its an s14 Also note the overlaping guages...

Yeah, geeze bing, what're you thinking?!
It's sort of a "meh" fit in. The leather might work, but without brushed aluminum or grey metal hues in your car, it will definitely look aftermarket. Oh, and you prolly should wash your windshield.
I s'pose I'm just a design whore:P

I've got that same shift knob in my '96, except the bottom part is aluminum and top is leather. I like the look and feel of it. Here's some pics for you...You can see my "custom" red turn signal arrows in the first pic too...HEHE

cool, thanks for the pics. Looks like you've done all sorts of stuff to your 240, dash, rearview mirror, pedals, shiftknob, ect...cool stuff. What kind of pedals are those, razo? Where'd you get them, I'm in the market for some of those too.

No prob for the pics...Yeah...I've got tons of little stuff like that done to it. CF dash kit, push start, broadway mirror, gauges light in all red....it's those little things that make the difference...to me at least. Yes those are Razo pedals, which I got from www.optauto.com a long long time ago...like one of the first few things I did to the interior. If you do get them and there is a choice between large and small pedals, get the small. I made the mistake of getting the large ones and it can get a little awkward sometimes. I'm wanting to get a set of pedals that are just straight up aluminum...Like these:

As for aluminum dash kits for the 240SX, check out Chris May's site:

Its a VN knob. I am looking into the momo one that is red and black, to match my car.
BTW: How is the wieght? Heavy knobs are cool, so you can throw the gears.

Momo's not all that heavy..that's my only complaint...Since the cores are made of wood they are usually a bit lighter than all metal knobs. What I really want to do is get the Nismo Aluminum knob anodized black. I don't have threads on my shifter though, because they were cut off...ehhh Hmm...I've got a topic for the Tech section...
