First things first i have a 91' 240 coupe the original motor took a dump i swapped it for a 97 ka swapped manifolds and dizzy worked fine. Heater core hose busted and coolant emptied and head gasket blew. So i got a 95 ka did the same stuff as the other swap with the exception of the upper manifold, the one without the butterflies.

Everything worked fine. i was driving down the street and my temp gauge was showing hot (needle was to the max) so i turned on the heater to see if it cooled down and it didnt move. so i pulled over and shut off the car then put the ignition in the on position without starting it. and the temp needle was at normal operating temp:wtf:

So i got out of the car and popped the hood and smelled something burning. And i find the ground wire on the drivers side that goes from the head to the firewall, melted and smoking so i pulled it real quick and unplug the + cable from the battery. then i plugged it back up and get back in the car and try to start it and it didnt start, so i towed it back to the house and i get in the car and try to start it and it fired right up and idled normal, and thru all this no CEL

I have been searching for answers for the past week and cant figure it out. So if anyone has any kinda insight as to what could be wrong please let me know thanx...

pull off the entire wire harness and look for the short!!!!! very simple, it can be the only problem. pull the entire harness and check it very closely..... you have gone through 3 or 4 motors on that same original wire harness. pull it all off and check it real close, it has got to be a short somewhere, only possibility

The coolant sensors are different from the 91 and 97 I believe. Your cluster won't read the temps correctly if the cluster and sensor on the intake manifold are mismatched.
