This was just released by Dunlop for bikes and at this point not much information on it but it has me thinking what would be the benifits over conventional tires.

Dunlop released this teaser video on YouTube this afternoon. It's known that Dunlop have scheduled a media event at their US test facility for later this week.

More info as we get it.

a tire made of carbon fiber and rubber? sounds interesting. if mixed correctly, the carbon fiber would take longer to wear down than the pure rubber.

I've always thought we were being screwed by tire manufactures. Sure they have increase grip and longevity but only by a couple thousand miles. There has to be something else that can provide greater or equal grip and a higher life span.

I think its just the bead and inner lining being made with carbon fiber to make a lighter tire. Dont think carbon fiber would be any good for road grip

If it were my guess it would be something along those lines to make a lighter tire. But never the less a rubber cf integrated tire would be interesting. Damn these teasers...:bash:

what im really curious about is how much it will cost.

what im really curious about is how much it will cost.

Most likely, ALOT!
Something designed just for race teams and Ducati's.
The funny thing is it will problably weight only a few kg's lighter but cost like $2500 a tire so the dealer will mark it up $5000 each and then you will endup paying $15k for tires on a bike that cost $30k now for a total $55k Ducati all becuase of this stupid tire...
All this because of something that most likely does nothing more than weight alittle less but has no real traction/ heat or grip benifits over conventional tire but is something that is great marketing and lets be honest all of us want...
Come on to pull up to a meet or show and say I have carbon fiber tires is kinda kool...
Marketing Genius

Or I could be way off and these are going to be the best things EVER!!!! :eek3d:

Adding carbon fiber to anything usually ends up in something groundbreaking, so a correct rubber to fiber ratio might yield something with far more traction than rubber or any of its composites could ever provide and give you a longer tire life as well as faster warm-up. This of course is subjective but still cool none the less.

Like all new technologies...expensive at first...much less later. I remember when dvd players were $800...smh

well its suppose to replace the q2 which was a great tire and only ran 370 a pop.

Dunlop’s new Carbon Fiber Technology (CFT) incorporates a carbon fiber reinforcement element in the Sportmax Q3 tire sidewalls. The many attributes of carbon fiber—high tensile strength, low weight, high chemical resistance, high temperature tolerance and low thermal expansion—make it a great match for application in the Sportmax Q3.

if it does what it suppose to do it could be a great tire for riders if its cost isnt too high.

Give it a few years everyone will make them...........cost will drop. becausechina

The advantage i could see in this, besides less weight and wear, is that a tire is a way to transfer energy into acceleration. One of the big losses of energy in a tire would be it's deformation under stress. With the addition of carbon fibers i would say it is maybe a way to get a more rigid tire without losing the plus of more grip you have with a softer tire? So less deformation + same grip as soft tire = more energy transformed to actual movement = more efficient energy usage. Don't know if actually works like that but that's my $0.02

Q2's are great tires, so I am interested how the Q3 will be.

I wonder if it will be a multi compound like the tire it is replacing?

I have a feeling it has to do with replacing the steel belt with carbon instead.

I don't know if the bead could handle being switched out.

As for the tire being stiffer, I don't think stiffness was ever an issue. Especially since riders drop the psi quite a bit before riding hard.

this is exactly what im saying. Im getting very interested in what these tires are going to be like.
