View Full Version : 350z 6speed on RB25. Grinding noises. Signs of near death?

I have a 350z 6speed matched up to a rb25 neo making 460whp via custom bell housing, mounts, etc...

Transmission is basically stock minus the OS Giken twin disc clutch.

It goes into gear fine, drives fine, works like it should.. But when i put it in 5th gear and cruise at low speed around 2000rpm it makes this nasty grinding noise that sounds like something is about to fly apart, but as soon as I ease on the gas and go up in speed it becomes quieter and sounds normal. It only makes that sound in 5th. It is progressively getting worse/louder.

Does anyone have the same issue/should I start looking for another tranny?

Start looking for another one.
When we were testing APS turbo kits back in the day we had a tranny blow on us and did the same thing.
Sorry buddy sounds like a kool set up though, any more info on it?

No 240.. No id

Not sure of the year, I think it's a newer one before they fixed the issue.

To my knowledge its the only setup like that in the world. Completely custom bell housing, 2JZ starter, custom linkages, mounts, the works. I'll look around for some pictures and put a few up.

Thanks though, I would rather not hear that but it's good to know now.

Is there any race gearset available for that transmission I can use for the next one? Like stronger gears or a different gear ratio?

pretty sure OS Giken makes a gear set you could buy. It isn't cheap by any means tho.
