So I recently purchased a 96 converted kouki off another member here. I was doing a basic tune up with my friend and unfortunately the more I work on it, the more problems I seem to find
Well as we're working on it he sees that this pipe is disconnected or broken off. I'm still new to this so if someone can help me figure out what to do I would seriously appreciate it.
The engine is a 98 OBD2 Ka24De

I'm sorry for the blurry pictures, the camera lense I have isn't meant for up-close photos but hopefully you guys can see it clear enough
Thank you for your help :D

That's the EGR.

It goes from that rusted out piece to the exhaust manifold.

Yes, that is the egr pipe. It's quite a bit of a pain in the behind to remove what with the rust and it being in an inaccessible location.

Ok thanks. So what exactly do I do? Would this be a relatively "simple" fix? And I'm pretty sure that's the reason it won't pass smog? (Other than the fact that the car doesn't have a muffler whatsoever)

You can replace it or delete it. Most people choose the latter

That for sure is a huge reason why it won't pass smog.

Unbolt the old pipe, and bolt on a new/clean one.

Aw well thanks guys I appreciate it. I can just pick up that piece at an autozone right? And I plan to build the car for drifting so would a regular OEM one suffice?

I don't think that's something autozone will carry.
Your best bet will probably be to get one from someone doing a part out, or a junk yard.

Edit - quick google search. Found one at courtesy nissan

It would be best to just find one selling locally... regardless of whether or not you get it new or used, do yourself a favor and start socking the attachment points with penetrating oil to make it easier to remove.

I'm pretty sure autozone carries them. I ordered one for a Z32 customer and got it the next day.
