Ok so...I put a new clutch in my s13 a couple days ago. And when I was tightening up the transmission cross member bolts. Two of them stripped. I though it was the bolts so I tried some more bolts. Still nothing. So I've come to the conclusion that the nuts inside the body are stripped. And I have a few ideas on how to fix them. But I was wondering if anybody has encountered this problem before?? And if so how did you fix it??

I'm thinking I could either
Tap/heli-coil the two stripped nuts.
Or I can try to somehow cut them out then weld new ones back in.

Any construction input is greatly appreciated!!

Just tap them out to a bigger size and use bigger bolts.

Bingo. Works every time.

Sometimes you can get away with running a tap in the capture nuts the same size as your current bolts, USE NEW BOLTS, and try again, but it's a gamble.

Either that or use a Helicoil to fix them. I think a better option would be to tap to a coarser thread bolt slightly bigger than what you have now, possibly a standard thread(they tend to be slightly larger than metric bolts).

JBWeld into the stripped capture nuts, then drive the old bolts in with the biggest impact wrench you can get your hands on. I personally guarantee, with my 18 years of automotive expertise, ASE and Toyota certifications, that bitch will never vibrate loose....

I do recommend to take it easy on the clutch for the remainer of your ownership of the vehicle, however. Just might be a beast to remove the trans, like, ever again.
