Here's a few pic's... I still have to finish scrubbing my car with bleach to get the stains out..

This was after a quick pressure washing to get the grime and dirt/oil off of the steering rack and underneath the car..

Pulling the 208K mile KA24DE out.. This engine in stock trim still ran a 14.90 when I gutted the car out a few weeks ago. :) Not too shabby..

Just finished painting my valvecover. I used some special metal paint.. supposed to be a metallic looking color. It shows through to the metal.. It's cool, because the oxidation that I couldn't get out.. shows up as black underneath. So, it looks like a piece of Granite. Pretty cool... :) I spent a few hours wire brushing the alluminum pieces on the engine to get the oxidation off as best as I could.
I should have the chassis fully cleaned tomorrow, and hopefully drop the engine/tranny in next week sometime. I have to finish putting the pans on and do a little more stuff with the wiring before I do though.

wow good job so far! lookign really good. what times you expect to get with the setup?

I'm shooting for ~600whp at 30psi and a 50 shot or so... I'm not sure how this head will flow as compared to a highport S13 SR head. So, it could be more.. but I know I can hit 600whp at least.

What are the differences between the 2 cylinder heads you are speaking of?

care to share what type of paint you used on that valve cover? i really like it...and what are the processes that you used to do that?

well what he has pictured there is either a s15sr clyinder head or s14sr clyinder head engine. The S14r is a low port head vs the S13sr heads being high ports. High ports have better flow in the upper mids and top end. Its why for a long time in Japan tuners were going with S13sr's over S14 engines even if the car came with a s14sr. Thats begun to change people are starting to like the bottom end pull that the s14sr and s15sr's have thats pretty much nonexistant on the S13sr. Plus the S14sr does not lose that much top end . Pretty much making it a superior engine with a broader flatter torque and HP band. Instead of acting like a 2 stroke motorcycle where there is nothng and than all of sudden everything its more of a steady even pull from 1-2k up to 7.5 and thats stock. now the big question should be is he disabling the VVT?
I thought he started with a RWD SR20DE and turbo'ed that, built it up, etc.

This engine started it's life as a S14 Silvia J's SR20DE. Here's the list of stuff I have invested in this project..
SR20DE
JE 8:1 pistons
Saenz connecting rods/ARP bolts
Pulsar GTI-R main bolts
ARP head studs
Cometic metal headgasket
HKS 264* cams
Fully blueprinted bottom end
New valve-stem seals in head
HKS valvesprings
Precision SC61 turbocharger
Plan-B Attack Stainless equal length manifold
3", flared to 4" downpipe.. 4" custom exhaust
96lb MSD injectors
Electromotive TEC II standalone
Spec stage 5 clutch
Cryo'd tranny
300zxTT rear diff
Greddy Type R blow off valve
Tial 40mm wastegate
Greddy Profec B (the old one)
Spearco front mount (it's HUGE)
2.5" and 3" piping
Nitrous Express wet kit
Twin Walbro 255lph pumps
Custom dual feed fuel rail
Aeromotive FPR
I think that's about it.... I will also be putting a cage into the car soon. I plan on running a 26"x10" slick and hopefully going high 9's. I'd settle for low 10's though.. ;) The race weight should be somewhere around 2400lb's with driver once I'm done.

The high port cylinder heads flowed better because of the angle/size of the ports in relation to the valves. It was a straight shot into the combustion chamber, and the ports were a lot bigger. This slowed down velocity at low RPM situations.. and thus decreased the amount of low end. But on top end, the engine screams as the velocity picks up, plus the turbocharger helps. On the low port heads (S14/S15), the ports are smaller, and the manifold's runners are longer... this makes for better velocity at low RPM.. and more low end power. Also, the variable camshaft sprocket helps a little to promote this. The lowport heads do flow decently... but a highport engine with the same given mods, at the 5-600hp level... will make about 20 more WHP. It's a given. However, the overall powerband should be a little better on the lowport.
Yes, I had to disable the Variable camshaft sprocket because I'm running aftermarket cams with too much duration for it to work. If I were to make it work, the pistons would probably hit the valves at some point. So, I just put a regular cam srocket on the intake side and leave the solenoid unplugged. I should have this thing running in a week or so.. We'll see how it turns out. :)

Dunno... The only thing done, was a rusted out HKS catback and a JWT POP charger. I also bumped the timing up a few degrees. The car was a freak of nature! Even before we gutted it... it ran 15.30's on some little 22x8 slicks. What's funny.. is that I ran the 14.9 on street tires, and lost about 2 tenths of 60ft time versus when I ran with the slicks. So, I would have probably ran a 14.7 or so with the slicks! Here's the time slip..

Pretty cool huh? ;)

WTH were you racing? nearly 12 flat and not even 100 mph?
hey waht does having the bottom end blue printed mean?

sweet build up. You may, eventually, want to look into a clutch/mechanical rear diff (ie. nismo, kaaz, cusco, etc)
keep us posted!

Blueprinting means that you use a measuring tool(s) such as a Micrometer or bore guage to measure bearing clearances, wrist pin clearances, check for out of round holes.. etc... It takes time, but it's well worth it, as you know exactly what every single clearance is when you assemble the engine.
Here's a few more pics... I finished my engine tonight, and did some painting in the engine bay. I degreased/scrubbed the entire engine bay, and then wet sanded it to roughen it up a bit. Then, painted it with white semi-gloss (3 coats) and 2 coats of clear. I should have bondoed the holes, but oh well.. it looks much better than it did originally.

I won't give out my exact costs on stuff (no offence), but someone who shopped around could EASILY reproduce this setup for about 6-7K. INCLUDING the motor... ;) 7K for 600+whp setup that's fully built and reliable.

No problem I will know your pain when I get back to the states. I will have the s-15 thrown into a 95 when I get back I am only shooting for 450hp though I have the knowledge to go higher but I prefer drivability and well just want it to last.

I hear ya... Same here.. Although I call it a drag car, the reality is.. I will be driving this thing on the street every day. So, turn the boost down to 10-12psi and then crank it whenever I race the car. Hopefully it will last me a good year or so before I have to tear back into it.

I set the motor in the engine bay tonight to check the clearance on the exhaust housing/brake booster. I have about an inch of clearance.. I'll probably put a heatshield on it anyway..

Thanks... I spent 2 days on it.. I degreased the entire engine bay, and pressure washed it first. Then, hit it with some wet sanding to prep the surface. I sprayed 3 coats of paint, and then cleared it. It came out pretty good..

Yeah, that's me... We were the first to make turbo kits for the Spec V, also the first to build a QR25 and make over 400whp. My claim when I started about 3 years ago, was that we had the first B15 Sentra to do a DET swap.. and the first and still only B15 to go 11's. :)
