ok guys so today i replaced my dying ka alt with a Quest alt as i plan on getting Altima fans in the near future. problem was every write up i saw used the stock belt setup, but im using the single belt setup as i don't have AC or PS. so i tought id share what i did to make this work. I'm using SOHC upper/lower bracket, SOHC thremostat housing (dohc slightly rubbed the belt) on my s13 Ka24de. not my pic vvv

strated by following this DIY DIY 110 Amp Nissan Quest Alternator into KA24E - adapted from article : 240SX Technical Forum (http://forums.nicoclub.com/diy-110-amp-nissan-quest-alternator-into-ka24e-adapted-from-article-t131961.html) by just drilling out the lower mounting hole to 13/16nds, which took forever intill my dad showed me the milling machine bit pictured below, as the bushing in the lower mount is hardened steel. i then mounted the Quest alt wilth the lower bolt to check fitment. sadly it wasn't going to be that easy as the upper mount was touching the bracket grabbed my veiner caliper and i need to ether move the alt .190in towards the firewall or grind the top mount down. while i had it in i check belt alingement which showed me i had to move the alt back one rib as when using the inner most ribs is was of by about a rib. i then fired up the bench and angle grinder to shave off .190 from the lower alt mount tabs. in the garage i used my old DOHC lower mount to figure out how i changed the lower mounting clearances. what i ended up doing is taping the steel bushing inward (towards the pully) to take up the slack which wasn't enough so i threw in a small washer between bushing and the mount (thickness doesn't matter as the bushing can be slide in or out .150in).

i then remounted it on my s13, this time it cleared the upper bracket and the belt fit perfectly on the inner most 3 ribs. next problem was the upper alt bracket slot didn't line up any more, as my belt was to short but im already using the largest 3rib belt i could find 30 3/8" i believe. so i took out a grease pen and put the bracket on the drill drill press. i used the same milling bit, deceresed the radius of the slot by about a 3/8th's of an inch and made it inch longer towards the block.

mocked up the quest one more time and finally it fit (after lightly grinding the adjuster block on the upper bracket for belt clearance). started it up and i no longer had to rev my ka to get the alt to kick on. i have yet to drive it like this and test, i really had no reason as my stock alt was good enought it just had trouble kicking on i would have to rev to about 2k for it to kick in and then it would stay on. ill take some more pics of my setup on request.
