Any predictions? I live in an area full of ricers, and i am trying to stay away from Hondas and Acuras. I just want to know what the rest of the fourm thinks about this new comer.

RSX doesn't look too bad and it does have 200 horsies. Cons are wrong wheel drive, probably has poor torque numbers at lower rpm's, and will probably be seen on every block. I suggest buying a 240 and adding a turbo. One of the easier cars to turbo, close to 50% weight ratio, RWD, fair price, low insurance, somewhat of a rarity (esp. S14b). .

i've already seen 2 rsx's where i live (calgary, Alberta)
anyhoo...
i'd personally stay away from Honda, just cuz in like a month, they'll likely be bringing out the altezza style lights for it and all that ricer stuff... yeesh.
it's not a bad car altogether tho, i-vtec and all dat engineering stuff that all those magazines are slobbering about.
'course if you're looking for FWD, why not go Sentra SE-R this fall, rite? it's 'only' 180hp (spec-V)... but wif modifications, no doubt it'd whoop an RSX anyday.

Since Honda has a pretty large "riceboy" following, it's pretty easy to build a sleeper. Everybody expects the fart tipped, slammed, 19" wheeled, body kitted, neon lit, flip-flop painted Civic DX to be faster than the plain jane CRX with a modified GSR motor swap.
But as for the RSX, I really wouldn't mind having the Type S from what I've heard about it. I'm sure a turbo and s/c will soon be out for it soon so that will interesting. I'd probably rather shoot for the WRX in that price range, though.

that's true...
or why not wait a year or two and slap down $5k more for a LOADED STi or EVO?
can't wait..............
when EVO comes over.......... *droool*
280hp AWD turbo beast ...... sweeeeeeeeet

i am getting the Evo 7 when it comes... i am in line
once i know it is coming i am going to the dealer and puttting down a deposit for the first one off the lot... that is if i have money... i grad this Xmas and evo is expected to come in Winter 2002 so i should have some money by then
RSX i think looks very high in the middle and has a short body.... making it look kinda stubby.....
anyone agree?
i think it is mad ugly
kitoro
08-06-2001, 11:50 PM
totally agree wif you buddy!
eeew.
i luv the EVO 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my friend told me that it doesn't corner as well as the STi does... anyone know if this is true?
but it shouldn't matter... if it doesn't corner as well, force it to... hehehe.. control the car, not let it control you....
man... Calgary better get a Mitsu dealership this year! arghz!!!!!! the only dealership i know of so far is in Vancouver and that's 12 hrs away!!!!!!!! yeesh.

08-06-2001, 11:59 PM
i would say if they dont get one then fly there and drive one back home....
i dont know if that is true but i know 4wd cornering is hard... especially 4wd drifting... u have to keep your foot on the gas while in the turn unlike the RWD... if it is not as good then i will have to just upgrade it... dont worry
also i agree with controlling the car cuz i always tell people i teach to drive to do that.....
i know i can beat cars with 180 HP or even 200HP in my 155 HP 240sx
so it is all about the skill
beat a girl in a 2000 2.5RS manual... and she can drive too...
kitoro
08-07-2001, 12:29 AM
did you beat them in a straight race or......................?
man... i dunno.
i'm contemplating at the moment.
i want a sweet car for after-University.. EVO or S14? EVO or S14?
i like the sound of the EVO rite now cuz i have less mods to do on it since Mitsu's bringing over the loaded 280hp version... but.......... yeesh S14 is so nice too.
drifterx
08-07-2001, 07:00 AM
if it comes to the US, it will carry 280HP.... i beat it on straght and in corners....
but alot of cars r out next year.... RX8, WRX STi, Z concept, Porche 911 TT, and a few more....
kitoro
08-07-2001, 02:23 PM
i know the EVO will carry 280hp when it comes over.
so i'm guessing Mitsu won't screw over Canada w/ dat either...
anyone know if the misfiring system is street-legal?
that thing can sorta get annoying...
drifterx
08-07-2001, 02:43 PM
it will not be legal here in Massachusetts because in our emmission testing, we check for misfires........
but what the ####........ i wonder if it is hard to bolt on and off?
if it is then i'll put it in (well maybe not cuz i dont wanna make my car too agressive looks and sound)
this will be my sedan and my secret racer

Wow,
The Lancer Evo 7 is going to one bad a** vehicle. Can't wait for that. I don't really like the styling of the subaru, too bad the WRX doesn't look like the 2.5rs anymore. But in my oppinion I will wait a bit longer and get the ultimate japanese car the "GTR" if it really does come here to the U.S!

ppl would ask you: " so what do you drive?"
you can answer: " a godzilla." or " a nissan." or " a GTR." or " a V6." (they'll imagine a mustang or sumthing.) or "a V8."(and they'll think it's a truck)

Well...since Honda uses v-tec..isnt is possible that 200 hp is the max theortical output? Isnt it that it only produces 200 bhp in VTEC range? So take the Civic Si. 160 bhp produced, but thats only in V-tec range. So again, as a former Honda person (maybe a former ricer? I still think its all hype.

I don't see why this is such a big deal. "It only makes power in VTEC range." Most cars make max hp within 1000rpm of redline. It's just a way of making high output out of a small displacement engine. And it's not like you can't modify it for more hp. Like I said earlier...somebody will make a turbo for it soon. It's just a different car altogether. They have no torque, but they rev quite easily to stratospheric numbers...something our cars can't do. They both have their pros and cons...to each his own I guess. But I'll always have a place in my heart for both Nissans and Hondas...well, really for all cars for that matter.:)

It MAY not be a big deal but it could be that the RSX makes 200 HP at 6500/7000 rpms but produces very little power in the rest of the torque curve. You can't keep an engine within 1000 rpm's of the redline all the time. I think his point was that HP is not the only measure of performance for an engine and I agree. That said, the 45 HP advantage would probably be enough to beat a stock 240SX in a 1/4 mile race.
anthony240
08-13-2001, 01:08 PM
those HP numbers are flywheel hp, remember that.
Civic Si = 130whp
Integra GSR = 140whp
S2000 = 195whp
KA s14 = 130whp
the main reason honda's don't put much power to the ground is TORQUE.
Civic Si = 110ft lbs
Integra GSR =120ft lbs
S2000 = 140ft lbs
KA S14 = 160ft lbs
Now, the RSX type-s has 200hp and 140ft lbs, which is not all that bad. So I'm guessing 160-170whp. The normal one (170hp/140ft lbs) is prolly 150whp.
But again, it depends on how you drive your car.

anthony240...
I don't know about the others, but I think whp for a GS-R is closer to 150-152hp (could be wrong, though).
And torque has little if anything to do with getting power from the flywheel to the ground. It's how efficient the drivetrain is.
And gt7142b, you're right. I've always effectionately called Hondas the torqueless wonders. Like I said, they rev to the moon and make power while ours make good low end torque. They're just a different car altogether. I wish our 240's could keep their low end grunt but have the top end most VTEC Honda's have...that would be great.

I've always heard that FWD cars have less parasitic loss through the drivetrain but it would never be a good enough reason for me to own one.

Yeah, they do. But the problem is that all that power they "gain" from less parasitic loss is tossed away when they squeal the tires in the first two gears. My friend's stock Integra does that... and he gets miserable starts. Worse than my auto starting.

As far as the RSX goes, don't get it. Yeah, it'd be fun, but it is WRONG WHEEL DRIVE! I can drive my 76 Ford (Mazda) Courier with an 1800 cc through the corners back home, than I can in my Dad's 91 2000NX. And on dirt? YUuuuuuck! Wheel jerk from ####! Back and forth, trying to get traction. Why don't you find a wrecked Pathfinder with the 240 hp V6, and stick that in a 240? You can find them at junkyards for jack nothing. Wouldn't be that hard, and even without mods, lotsa power. That engine still has a 6000 redline, if I remember correctly.

i'd bet money against the lancer having 280 hp when it gets here. as for the type s, why not wait for the type r? its already out in japan so it shouldnt be that long to get here. besides, it better be fast considering they sell for 34K plus 17% tax around here. i'll keep my 240 plus money left over. besides, i raced one a weeks ago, and smoked it pretty nicely

The new i-VTEC is supposed to increase hp throughout the entire engine range. Therefore giving it more low end power, even more mid range power and a bunch of high end as usual ... or so i understand it. Im thinking 200hp to my 155hp?? i think i'll skip on that race.

just because its a honda, doesnt mean its rice. dont get me wrong - i love nissan...just got my 240sx, and i'd take a skyline r32-34 over anything. but why hate? the HONDA nsx came in 2nd and 3rd in the JGTC this year...and no, nissan didn't take first, it was a supra. yeah, the s2000 has less torque than the 240SX, but its as fast as a stock s13 and s14 silvia. and do you see any 240SXs in the united states that run as fast as civics do?

hondas suck because:
1. they're boring
2. everyone has one
3. they're FWD
whateverjames
11-29-2001, 03:39 PM
it's all a matter of opinion. i like nissan more, but it would only take a second to convince me with a honda that was a better deal than my 240SX. example (it takes a $20,000 honda to keep up with my old $2500 240sx) i'll buy an S2000 before a mustang. i don't hate hondas, just 90% of the drivers.

11-29-2001, 03:41 PM
hmm....
1. aight...if u think they're boring, then fine...that doesnt mean they suck, that means that you dont like them. but do u REALLY think that every car honda puts out is boring? the NSX is just as advanced as the skyline, maybe more, just in different ways. aluminum frame? mid-engine design?
2. everyone has an nsx or s2000? a whole lot of people have sentras, maximas and altimas too. and the fact that everyone has one does not change the fact that they're good quality cars, and a couple are pretty #### fast cars...
3. nsx's and s2000's are rwd, and nissan makes fwd cars too...the majority of every manufacturer's cars are FWD. with both honda and nissan, most are FWD, and a few are RWD.

nsx's and s2000's are rare cars, and can't be used in the same breath as the civic and accord
here's the main problem: every piece of tacky crap that you have ever seen was probebly designed for a civic first. half of the souped up civics i see are done poorly, and their lack of speed shows it.
they ruin the import market by allowing companies like apc and obx to flourish. these companies make their money purely on hondas.

crazy (and don't take this the wrong way... it's just a rant that kept going :o) [dennis miller mode] - I'm with you on the point that there is no reason to hate Hondas. I know many of us came from the "H" camp before getting our 240s and understand that there is a good deal of potential in the little cars. It also happens that I know a lot more serious drivers (i.e., racers, not ricers) that run Hondas than any other brand (East Coast Honda Challenge makes me jealous). Further, by all accounts, the RSX is a tight little performer that can hold its own in the straights and the twisties. However, what ever Civic-based chassis you show me, it is still an econo-box with all the un-sporty characteristics built into a grocery getter. Too upright, impossible to dial out understeer, and torqueless power. For some, the high revs, close gears, and plentiful US after market are enough (not to mention their ability to hold value and run until the odo breaks). Personally, I sold what I think was the best Civic ever (EG Si) for my 240.
But comparing the S2000 and NSX is really not a fair comparison to the 240 either. If it were still possible, I would take a 300zx, an RX-7, a Z3, or a Boxter over the S2000. It is a good car, but not my cup of tea. Same thing with the NSX - 911 or Vette Z06 (easy). In all of these cases, it is not that I hate Honda or that it is a bad car, but the fact of the matter is that Honda = hype. They're good, they're cheap, and they're bullet proof... but they're not above suspicion.
The last point is that I HATE the Honda image and the "import lifestylz" of that crowd. In my hatch, I couldn't drive two miles without some orange haired, gangsta leaning, Japan worshipping knuckle head in his fart-can equipped, bump-stop riding, monster tach (w/ shift light) viewing, mad skillz yellow (or EBP, etc.) rig trying to race me. Besides, I've yet to see an S2000 driver at a track/autox event that wasn't a prick.
Between the mediocre cars and the annoying culture, I jumped ship. I think that when some people vent on Hondas, it is not so much against the car - I don't think I've ever "hated" a car (with the possible exception of those posted in that certain other thread ). Instead, it is the combination of the car, the hype, the culture, and the pride for the hamburger. (look at your emblem if you don't get the reference).

I don't understand honda. They make decent cars, but could do sooo much better. For instance they have been advertising the greatest horsepower per naturally asperated liter in the world ever in the s2000.... but toyota built a 240 horse 1.6 liter in 1985 and stuck it in the trueno through TRD or a slightly different version in formula atlantic cars. As for the Evo, I doubt it will make it here with more than 240 horses... and even at that, it is gonna be 40g's canadian. where am I gonna pull that money out of. I just bought a 240, and it will be sr20det'd an a whole lot more before I even break the 25,000 mark... and it iwill be just as much fun and maybe even faster. I like the idea of building, not having someone else build for me...
As for the evo, it has the secod best 4 banger in the world, the 4g63. It is one of the most incredible cars around. But from everything I have heard, you have to learn to drive all over again when you get behind the wheel of an AWD... The 240 is my first rwd, and I will stick with it.
crazycuban
11-29-2001, 05:01 PM
no doubt, honda culture, or at least a whole lot of it, sucks...and i'm not comparing the NSX and S2000 to the 240, just saying that Honda does make RWD cars. The 240 is special in that it is one of the cheapest rwd cars out there - the S2000, for 30000 bucks, however, is in the next class up, and shouldn't be ignored as a viable RWD Honda.
I'm with ya - I hate ricers as much as anyone...but it's important to understand that ricers are ricers, and do not represent a lot of Honda drivers that actually know their stuff.
i've never been a part of the honda camp, and from what i see now, i don't really want to be (nissan is in my eyes better, and my previous car was a celica...the fwd was what soured me to it, as well as experiences with Toyota Motor Corporation...). Theres no reason to disrespect hondas though. hondas make up some of the cream of the import scene here - and though they may not have started it, the scene would still remain relatively underground if it weren't for hondas, and even those civic chassised cars.
btw, no offense taken, i'm only going off on this because i dont like how peeps are either all about hondas or hate em. the truth is, honda makes some bad cars, some good cars, just like any other company. people who hate on hondas are just as mistaken as those who love hondas and none else.
for every apc, hp racing and obx, theres also a top fuel, a feel's and a mugen.

uuh...i could be wrong, but i dont think there was ever a 240 hp 4age in the trueno...formula atlantics have em, but from what i've heard those are undriveable...no power whatsoever under 6-8000 rpm. makes no sense to drop that into a street driven car. and yeah, toyota made the 1.6 liter 240hp engine, but thats a race engine - if u wanna talk race engines, honda has had a well-established formula 1 program for years. now THATS a race engine.

Subaru of North America has confirmed the STi to American shores with approximately 280 bhp. and the whole reason Mitsu even thought of bringing the evo to america was cause of the release of the WRX. they brought the lancer, but that's just an econobox. i highly doubt that mitsu will idly stand by and watch people scoop up 280 hp STi's by the barrelfull.

Take everything with a grain of salt. When most of us here knock Honda, it's for the image that's associated with it. Few will doubt that Honda makes some fabulous cars, though the focus of much of the forum on Hondas tends to be the Civic, Integra, and Prelude. Hey, each has advantages and dissadvantages, but I just love the feeling that my own car is quicker than that slammed, fart tipped, altezza'd civic
Main thing to keep in mind though, is that Civics aren't sports cars, they're economy cars. You can't feel the same behind the wheel of a civic as you do in a 240sx
When did the new SE-R start selling? I saw a white one on the road today.

crazy - I hear ya and mostly agree - no hate, but pissing and moaning. Also the 4age is a great motor but you're right - race motors don't count - that's cheating Otherwise, I agree that Honda makes the most hp/na-liter... but (oh God, I sound like a Mustang owner)... I don't care. If it takes more size or boost to go faster, than make it so. That whole size thing is just an outgrowth of Honda's Japanese econo car roots (cars are taxed by the liter in Japan) (and yes, everyone else skimps there too - a 2.0 is a big engine there). Like I said, I really like Hondas - I just like more performance oriented cars better. As for the love'em or hate'em - I think hardcore enthusiasts can find middle ground... otherwise, Hondas are like the Yankees or the Jordan era Bulls... you get so sick of them or you are a fan.
As for the EVO vs. STi: I agree both are coming. You didn't really think Mitsu would take all the effort to get a $15K Lancer federalized w/o some plans to bite into the WRX market share? Too bad people are going to see a $35K sticker for a car they think is worth $15K. IMHO, it still has the lines of a $15K econo-box - even if it is #### fast.
The WRX still has a gearbox that can't hold 400 hp, massive parasitic loss, and the lines of a Toyota Echo on steroids. I guess all of this is to say that I am not a fan of the "new muscle cars." For the likely money, I'll take my BMW 330 - to go!

yeah, dont get me wrong - im defending honda because i respect any fast cars - and honda sure as #### makes some. but i'm definitely not a honda freak...u know...one of those dumb peeps who will go around bragging about hp/liter ratios.
and honestly, yes, the 240sx is performance oriented, and its a great handling car, but many talk about it as a sports car, which it isn't. yeah, rwd is great, and it handles great, but a sports car - and you may disagree - is purpose built for sport driving. 4 seats and a torquey, almost too practical in my taste engine does not mean a sports car. its a sporty coupe, and a #### good one, one of the best, at that.
when you look at it that way, while u bash honda, u might as well bash every other company out there. nissan is special in that it makes a rwd sporty coupe. toyota has performance cars in its price range, but those are definately purpose built - mid engine and two seats, and definately not too comfortable.
i'd even hesitate to call the gt-r a full blown sports car...but this isnt disrespecting all of these nissans...i'd take a car that seats four and is reasonably comfortable over a car that seats two and is disgustingly cramped and loud if they both have the same performance...
yeah, kinda got off track, but what im saying is that every car company besides nissan is guilty of missing the low-price rwd sporty coupe market...why dis only honda? why not toyota, subaru and mitsubishi as well?
Crazy I agree with you but how many pimped out toyotas, subarus and mitsus do you see running around with altezzas and cough cans on the back? We bash them because that is what we are exposed to the most. My freind was making fun of me the other day because they do not make euro tail lights for our cars. I told him that I wouldn't buy them if there were and of course he drives a civic with neons, fart filter and 17s. My car is stock and I blow his ass away everytime we race. We bash ricers 'cause they are more concerned about clear tail lights and huge ass spoilers than performance. They are just pathetic. But then again not all are ricers, there are just more honda ricers than there are honda enthusiasts.

the only reason they dont make altezzas for the 240sx is that its not very commonly modded.
how many toyotas to i see with altezzas? toyota has missed the low-price (i say this because those who have the money and knowledge to get a supra normally wouldn't put on altezzas) market until now with the celica. guess what apc has started to make and i now see on celicas? altezzas.
mitsubishi's only sport compact is the eclipse. i have seen crazy riced-out eclipses everywhere. i don't know where ur from, but theres nothing that makes me cringe more than 2nd gen eclipses with altezzas all the way across...and i see so many of them.
subaru has missed the cheap sub compact crowd totally. they make suv's, family sedans, and now the wrx - but real enthusiasts are the ones who buy wrx's.
besides, ur telling me u only see riced out hondas? ####...tell me uve never seen (and it hurts to say this) the way hispanics rice out toyotas. its disgusting - instead of altezzas its the calvin pissing on latest car better than theirs. worse than honda rice.
point is that hondas have so much rice because its a huge market. no one mods nissans really - the s14 is too rare for mass aftermarket support, and the s13...people are dumb and dont realize the potential - or even how great it is stock.
sorry, this thread might have been dead, but i just got started on my rant again cuz someone else decided to go off on how much they hate hondas again...

maybe if u'd read a little more closely this isn't me talking about how i don't like rice. this is me saying that not all hondas are rice. why are u trying to start shit? jesus christ...if u dont like something someone says, or what peeps are talking about, then either respond intelligently or dont say anything at all...let the post die instead of telling someone to shut up like a 10 year old...
