Is it possible to run a GTi-R motor in a rwd setup by simply bolting it up to a rwd tranny?

more specifically, would it just bolt up in an s13 chassis?

Nope nissan casts the fwd(awd) and rwd blocks differently wont even come close to bolting up.

why? it would be easier to bolt up a rwd sr and just change the characteristics (stronger pistons, bigger turbo, itbs, etc.) of the gti-r sr. If you can get really nifty, i guess you can make an awd 240. the gti-r motor is transversely mounted so getting that to mount and making it rwd would be a task in itself. if you wanted to convert a 240 to awd, why not just make it out of an rb26dett motor.

no pretty much I was wondering what would need to be done, not because I would actually do it, but my friend works in a shop where they break down motors and part them out...keep the good ones. He said "we have an sr20." I said, "what kind?" Him: "DET" heh...me:"a red-top? or what? I don't want one of them fwd bluebird motors or something." Him: "Are you stupid? All you would have to do is bolt it up to a rwd transmission!" I was like...um...highly doubtful...

gti-r, bluebird motors, etc, no workey in our cars. But the Gti-r intake manifold is nice, and so are the rods and pistons, and turbo.

Big problem with the fact that the fwd sr's had distributors running off the back of the exhaust cam. put that baby in a rwd car and its going to strike the firewall. Now if you removed it and setup some kind of crankfire igition setup, the only other problem would be does the block have trans bolt holes in the same places, so it could be bolted to a rwd tranny. Unlike earlier stated its not completely impossible but it is tricky. The big question is is it worth the hassle?
