View Full Version : Decided I want a 89-90 s13.
I remember driving my very first 89 240SX back in the day. One thing I admire about the 89-90 models is that their rack and pinion system have dif gearing so the wheel is ezier to turn, or you can turn it without as much effort. In my s14 its way to loose. Just thought I would let everyone know.
PS: Im not sure if I am talking about the right thing but you get what I mean <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
Now the hard part is finding a 89-90 coupe.
i like the steering in my car it tight and feels more sporty than the loose stuff n e way ... why an 89-90? cost + engine is gonna gome out anyway? or what reasons?
Plan to do a SR20DET, and a Silvia front end conv.
yeah but when some kid says he's gonna do it, u just kinda say okay...
but we all know you aint lyin

isnt the 89-90 model harder to do a SR20DEt swap as oppose to the 91+?
if ur gonna swap the motor and the front end u might as well get the sohc, because those are the big diffs between the dohc, and it wil save a few bucks as well

well also i heard there is different wiring from a SOHC and DOHC.. and the DOHC is more direct
It all depends on what I find first. It depends on what I find in NJ when im out there. I am even looking at a POS BMW 325is that I might get just so I can save money. Who knows what ill get.
i'd get the 325is if your gonna slam it out, that would be one sexy ride, sohc 240's dont have leather (i dont think) but the 325 should, call up dinan and get the works and you is good as gold.

I think your thinking he wants a newer bimmer.I think he's talking about a late 80's bimmer that he could buy cheap to save money. I'd rather have a cheap 240sx then a cheap bimmer cause you could always "upgrade" the 240 to your liking.
Yea an older 86 325is with a 90 325 motor in it. Its right by where im going to be working so if I can get ahold of the owner im going to test drive it and if its nice and he will settle for 4k I will buy it. I only want the car because I know they are fun cars and I wont spend all my money on modding my car. Although, I will be saving it for some car, either a SR20 Silvia or a Lexus IS300..... who knows..... I reallllly do want a s13 coupe, but I need a car now.

no no, i was thinking the 87+ 325is, i almost bought one with a upgraded ecu and it friggin flew, but it had been in a bad accident...
you can mod the bmw probably even more than u can a 240, it should be stock with 140hp, rwd, 5spd, leather, aluminum bbs rims, pw, pl, pdl, etc.
those things are great, i always loved them, before i was gonna buy one my dad found a 86 325es he was gonna get me but the guy sold it...
sorry im bmw at heart

"hey louis.
aren't 89-90 harder to swap an sr into when compared to the 91-93?
don't remember why though."
Here's what louis (boostdynamics) had to say...
"Actually no they are easier, we just got done doing an SR implant into a '91 and it was WAY more difficult than it was to do into my partners 89, it could have possibly just been the car because we ran into a bunch of stupid problems but I really think the 89-90 are easier to swap into, the only thing that the 89's don't have is the correct power steering stuff so you have to fab some stuff and get the DOHC power steering tank, that's about it though."
Here's the thread <a href="http://www.zilvia.net/forums/cgi-bin/topic.cgi?forum=4&topic=163" target='_blank'>http://www.zilvia.net/forums/cgi-bin/topic.cgi?forum=4&topic=163</a>
Edit: ahhh, the is300 is sooo nice! What kind power do they put down?

Im Nissan/BMW lover. Havent driven anything else I liked. havent driven a toyota yet but Im sure I will love em.
The BMW im looking at has M3 seats, 4.10 LSD, Short Shift, Eibach Springs along with shox, sway bars, and a few things more. Should be fun.
buy it buy it buy it buy it, i definately would....
that thing is sexy, i love those older bmw's...
i thougth when you said it was a POS i thought it was rusting out or something, but that aint a POS...
you can make those things just as fast if not faster than a 240, they have all the same mods and if you think that they are hard to find, just get a copy of European Car and start from the back....
buy it buy it buy it buy it buy it

onebadm5 i would guess <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> i dunno what wests current car runs, or what his new one will, but i'd imagine that unless west gets a low 12 then onebadm5 is pretty close to the top of the list
The SOHC S13 does have tight steering, even tighter if you remove your power steering..!
As for SR conversions, the DOHC harness can be converted.. if you get an SOHC.. you'll definately need a wiring harness.. along with the additional work to get the PS to work.
However, I heard the 93 has stronger doors, something to consider if you care about side-impact safety.
IMO, the DOHC would be the wiser choice.. plus the newer bumper looks more aggressive. BUT, when it comes to bugdet.. the SOHC's are dirt cheap.
note: SOHC 240's can come with leather, I beleive it was SE option or standard on LE. Besides, god forbid you do some work to cleanup that old interior! S14 seats are always a must, regardless of what S13 you have.

i'd say go with the SOHC if you plan on getting rid of the engine and swapping the front end...that $1000 you might save could go a long way. just dont see many reasons too spend more money on things you're going to change out anyway (leather, DOHC, front end), and tighter steering is always a plus.

oh yeah, that's right, i know who ur talking about. he's definitely got some really nice mods on his car. his site was probably the first modded 240 place i stumbled upon. he's not a frequent poster, but yeah i really think he has the fastest 240 out of nebody thats ever been on this board.
