Why the hell would you try to take on a business when you are still in school and basically in debt? Its not just buying the property/business and you're done.Alot goes into a successful business and just because it is doing well now doesn't mean it will do well under your ownership.....Don't get in over your head, don't buy it.

I think if you think you can handle it, go for it.

I don't think there is anything wrong with picking up a business while your in school. It gives you an oppertunity to try out the skills you have been learning, and to gain experience that very few people your age will have.

A word of advice though.. from experience with running a small business, ANY major change to the business i.e. Ownership change, Change of name, change of location, change of appearance, etc.. expect at least 3 years before you will turn a decent profit if the business is run well.

Small business=Your life. IMHO a big pain in the ass that is not worth it. Some people love it,but I personally would not be able to bear it. I work for a couple that run a small business and they are working all day and night on that thing all the fucking time.

I need 8 grand to get the current owner out and take over the lease on the building. It does well, its been there forever although i still have to look at the books.. My problem is where to get the money from. Anyone have an extra 15 grand anywhere? Its only like 12 grand US!

My boss owns his own small business, it is a skateshop/bikeshop/snowboadshop so luckily it is something he likes...but I must agree he spends a ton of time there...just make sure you know what you are getting into, do you plan to employ other people or are you going to make it a one man operation? Who are you going to hire? Can you trust them? I am not doubting you or saying you haven't thought of these things but I am just saying it will be a lot of work, but good luck.

yeah, it's infinitely more difficult then one would imagine...however this is a different scenario...we started ground up...where as this is a take over of an established business...so it will be slightly easier...the clientelle already exists...

there is no way i could have done it while in college though...or wanted to for that matter...college is about having fun and learning new things...not stressing about the bottom line of a business...

there are always hidden costs...things you dont think about...some good points have been made here...as far as employees and such...

do you have people you can trust to go into it with you?

why are you wanting to do this anyway?..what's the motivation?..

think long and hard..make sure it's what you want...15K is a lot of money...
