How do you miss that when buying a car? Also this should be in the tech section not in chat.

Agreed. Take this car off the road, put everything in a safe shell. Then turn this one into a track car or something.

Ahh, well you live and you learn right? I don't think just tubs are going to fix this, you're going to have to rebuild the strut towers, still fixable though. Now knowing the backstory behind it maybe track car is not the best idea.

really think rebuild the strut tower? Why not just reinforce?

You could just weld the cracks closed and add some plates, but it might be best to cut them off, get some good ones and weld them in with straight welds not that jagged stuff.

You might want to find a shell and use it as a parts car. Cut and replace. I really don't think you'd be wise to just weld that up. That right there is pretty dangerous, and I personally wouldn't drive it like that. But, there are some pretty amazing fabricators out there too, so it's all just about the access that you have, and how deep your pockets are.

tubbing it* tubbs*

but yes most likely you can fab your way out of that.

Ill take that into consideration for sure thank you

I also think that I could do a tub but wrap it fully around the strut tower? any thoughts

Nothing to do with lack of fab skills, simple fact is though that these cars are cheap and easy to replace. Given it has sentimental value though it's probably worth more to you than another shell would be so I understand your position :)

How does that even happen?

That car is boned.

If you're gonna try tubing around the strut, you should find a way to jig the top strut mount so that it matches the dimensions laid out in the FSM. I don't know how you would do that though.

no worries it will get fixed

i would worry about what caused that to happen more then fixing it.

the way it looks, it looks like the coilover was so stiff when the car hit a bump super hard it just ripped. looks better in person though i must say

I might be able to cut one from the jy and weld it in

I honestly don't believe you'll be able to get it back to anything as good as its original condition, no matter how good of a job you do. The suspension geometry is going to be off. But in case you're certain on trying I hope this helps, Good luck.

The PROPER way to fix that is to replace the whole strut tower. Cut out the spotwelds that hold it in and source a replacement from a donor car. Honestly it's not worth fixing IMO. It would be cheaper to find a shell than it would to fix the damage. If you try to piece it back together it'll never be as strong as it was originally. It'll never be exactly straight again, no matter how good your frame guy is.

I have had my coupe for 10 years. I am not letting it go. It is fixable. It is not worth the effort generally but I like to suffer. S chassis strut towers are very thing sheets of metal and they are prone to this kinda thing, after this happened to my car I did a lot of research and have met quite a few people who have encountered the same problems. My story is a long one and would require its own thread which I will create when my car is completed. Havent had enough free time for it :(
