I have been searching around and there is not really a how to on this... can someone point me in the right direction cause I have 3 trans laying in my back yard and would love to go through them and get them 100% so I can keep a couple as spares and/or sell them.

This is what you will end up with after the cases are off
Don't try it unless you know what you're doing. Otherwise you're just wasting your time. Also make sure you have all the proper tools before you have a million things scattered everywhere

you wont sell them, as no one will buy it for more (or the exact amount of) money it will cost.
The problem with these gearboxes, aside from center plate lubrication holes that need to be closed (otherwise you will kill 1st, reverse and 5th gear from starvation), is just how it is built. When under load, shafts tend to go further away from each other, resulting in less and less contact between gears, which end up breaking. Usually the 3rd goes first.
When north of 350/400HP, if you want a reliable gearbox ... get a better one. I heard very good things about the Z33 one (TBH i might swap one in some months, i can get a brand new one fully installed with custom prop shaft for less than a new on from nissan)

I have a cryo-treated SR trans. Decided to do it after I blew up 3rd. :(
I ended up salvaging 3 trans to make one good one. There are 2 different transmission styles. One has extra gears for reverse; I'm unsure what the benefit is as the rest of the gears are the same. To take these apart you need a few speciality tools and a press. I wish I could help you more than that, but I had a shop do it after removing the casings myself. Total cost was $50 for treatment, $100 for shop work.
Finding a cryo-treatment shop is easy. Start asking shops that deal with aircraft maintenance. There should be one within 15 minutes of any decently sized airport.
If your gears are in great shape and the synchos are destroyed, you can order a rebuild kit for under $200 from here or your Nissan dealership. (Have the shop doing the work order the parts incase if you get the wrong one.)

you need to first find out WHAT transmission you have "240sx transmission" IS NOT enough, nissan labels their transmissions just like engines.
do you have a 71C? 71A? 71B? 71E? how about a 71S?
it should tell you on the bell housing
TA-71B
RS-71C (RB20)
CA-71C (VG30E)
NW-71C
the first two mean something although i do not know what but the last 3 are the transmission series and are very important, the 71C hold THE most torque (since TORQUE is what breaks transmissions and not horsepower) the 71B is trash as is the 71A
BTW the 71B comes in 4 speed and 5 speed options.
the 30A is the transmission everyone wants, it's in the RB25/VG30DETT/DE/DET and on the 87-89 z31 turbo, and a few pathfinders as well. you have the Z33 transmission which i believe is OB9 or something along those lines and theres a few of them as well. you guys need to start a transmission thead going over ALL the transmissions.
SR/KA/CA/VG30E are all 71C's L28 are 71B's/71C's and the early L24's are 71A's i believe.

if you work in a shop with 3 master techs why not ask them, rather than ask someone to do a write up for you. either take school or ask them, thread solved.
