Sorry, I didn't want to pollute such an informative post with mere opinion. That post is loaded with great insight, it really helps. Many of you keep excellent records. I was shocked at how many people sprung for coilovers, I couldn't justify it.

My utmost respect to those that spent less than $1k on the car and then stuck an add'l $5k - $10k+ into it... that's the REAL way to get performance. It also requires real vision.

Lol. Yea, spending more on parts than you paid for the car. You know, it's kinda funny, I paid more for my engine than I did for the whole car.... It's a neat post, though.

I've spent more money on footwork than most people have their whole car. definately eye opening. I expect to have 24-25K in my s13 before I'm done with it.. :ughd:

Yeah, and most people would think that's absolutely moronic. They'd much rather spend 25k on a new, "nice" car.

But at the end of the day, you're driving around in something that's been built exactly to YOUR standards. The car is unique and is unlike anything else on the road.

If you're confident enough to say you'll take out anything besides a miata, then the miata shouldnt matter. When someone beats you in a stock accord stationwagon it will put things into perspective for you. The car doesnt matter unless both driver are of equal skill and both have equal knowledge of the road.

Not to mention faster than anything under 75K, and some things over 150K

Right. And that's when people trot out "Well, you're still driving around in an old POS 240SX. I'm driving a Porsche (or Ferrari, Z06, Aston Martin, BMW, whatever)."

I hate that stupid shit. The reason I want a 240SX (shopping starts in August), is because I want to BUILD a car. Not blow my whole wad on BUYING it.

No way its faster than a z06 or a viper...no way

Your view of a Z06 is highly distorted. There are so many 240's that are faster than stock Z06's.. you make me laugh.

Hell, PSI240SX on here's 412hp KA put a whoppin on a viper in a straight line. With the right suspension setup, the corners would be NO problem.

and I don't give 2 shits about snooty assholes in those "high class" cars. That's not what this car is about. It's about pure unadulterated adrenaline driven affordable fun.

I have no doubt that my car will put a whoopin on just about any sub 150K porsche once it's done. Of course, it won't be as sexy, or nice inside, or have the "prestige" that the porsche owner payed a pretty penny for.

As if I care about that, but... Z06 runs about a mid-low 12 sec quarter mile. I've seen PLENTY of daily driven 240's run faster than that.

Do not act like the z06 is some sort of god in stock form. it's not.

edit for fyi - 2001 Z06 power:weight ratio = 8.1lbs/1hp It only takes about 320hp in a 2600lb 240 to match that.

Of course in 05' they are planning for 500hp.. which would require just over 400hp from the 240. Still completely feasible.

i know it's feasable. i asked you what you were planning to do to it? but if you dont wanna say that's fine. Never mind.

lol.. my bad, I got confused b/c I wasn't paying attention to S/N's..

I'm hoping to get the car down to about 2400lbs, and put about 350hp in an SR. I really haven't planned the specifics as I've been busy finishing the other stuff like suspension, brakes and Safety. Once the Roll bar, seats, and harnesses go in, I have a few more small things with the suspension, then I'll start to focus on power. This will give me time to work on my l33t driving skills some more.

I have every single receipt, but I refuse to add them up as it would probably kill me.

Asking this question to a car enthusiast is like asking a woman her age - it is probably more than one is willing to admit.
