my thoughts on the isis rs3871

Hey guys thought u would share my expirience
With the isis turbo.
1st impression was good, looked like a pretty nice unit.
All the oil n water lines bolted up without a hitch.
Only problem i ran into was the intake pipe was kind
Of a bitch.
Anyways ive been running it at 12lbs and it felt pretty nicre,
Was gonna go to the dyno next week to get ready for an
Event next month but it started puking oil out the exhaust likee
Crazy :(
Turbo only has maybe 300 miles on it.
To sum it all up, the power felt better than my t28., but
Was kinda laggy amd blew up very quickly.
This was my own personal take on it, turbo sounded great but didnt
Last worth a damn.
Hopefully others will have better luck

I took the turbo out last night n it looks brand new, thank
God taking out a turbo is cake on a sr.

What oil feed line were you using? We have had some customers who have run a -4 feed line run into some issues because the center section seems to be getting too much oil.

I havnt installed mine yet, but I hear very few bad experiances with em. Either way I've heard Enjuku's customer service is bar non. I've heard a lot of people say to break the turbos in much like a clutch per sey. IDK how tru it is since I've only had used turbos in the past lol. Either way man. Best of luck, I'll put mine in this weekend maybe haha

ISIS has a 6 months warranty on those. You said you drove it at least 300 miles, and I doubt those took you more than 6 months to drive. If you got it new, go ahead and contact them.

I've been running my RS3871 for at least 1 1/2 years now and still going strong, and I daily my car. I'm rebuilding my motor right now and checked for turbo shaft play and there was barely any.

Yeah i ran my isis turbo at 20psi, and it didnt puke any oil, you have the wrong restrictor on their and probably blew out the oil seals.

ALso edaciousx, the link you posted is for a different turbo.. The rs3871 is not the same turbo as the t25/28 replacement.

What size feed line were you using?

Journal bearings don't really need oil restrictors. That's more of a BB issue.

Turbos do have seals, just not the typical rubber style. They use step gap seals, kind of like piston rings but much more simple

Right. Those are boost seals. They do not hold oil in, they keep boost out of the CHRA.

I used the oil and waterline kit straight from enjuku, it was a -3 just like they recommended.
I got another one so hopefully it doesnt blow anytime soon.

I was not giving bad information... The seals do keep oil in, reguardless if they were designed to keep boost out...

Common Causes of Oil Leakage
A properly installed turbo should NOT leak oil. There are, however, instances where oil leaks occur. The most common causes, depending on the location of the leak, are:

Leakage from compressor and turbine seals
Excessively high oil pressure
Inadequate drain, drain is too small, does not go continuously downhill,
or the location of the drain inside the oil pan is located in a section that has
oil slung from the crank causing oil to back up in drain tube. Always
place oil drain into oil pan in a location that oil from crank is blocked by windage tray.
Improper venting of crankcase pressure.
Excessive crankcase pressure.
Oil drain rotated past the recommended 35°.


Leakage from compressor seal
Excessive pressure across the compressor housing inlet caused by:
Air filter is too small.
Charge air tubing too small or has too many bends between the air filter
and compressor housing.
Clogged air filter.


Leakage from Turbine seal
Collapsed turbine piston ring from excessive EGT's.
Turbo tilted back on its axis past recommended 15°
