So I got to lowering my rear subframe and just out of curiousity what are the L shaped brackets that bolt the subframe to the rocker of the car for? I tried soaking the end that bolt to the the rocker with pb blaster but the bolts snapped because of rust on both sides. Looks like it may be for additional lateral support but I'm not sure if its ok to run this thing with out those brackets. Just wondering if anyone on here has tried running with out those brackets or not. From my experience with other cars I would think the 4 mounting studs would be enough but I'm no expert with these cars so your guys help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

While act as a secondary brace to keep the subframe happy while in place. While the main 4 studs keep the sleeve secure, the outer L brackets keep the subframe secure in leiu of the bushing itself.
With that said I've driven ones without L braces and ones with, and couldn't tell you the difference in the feel department.

They stop it from wiggling as the rubber bushings wear out, which will make the car feel hella-loose. Keeps the subframe pointed the same direction all the time... so to speak.
Some of the guys I know who run solid bushings don't use them because solids nearly, if not completely negate the possibility; and like codyace said, didn't feel a difference other than the bone-chattering vibrations of solids lol. I switched to urethane, so I kept them because urethane can still wear out.

Well I got the subframe out and ordered the poly bushings since mine were toast. However I managed to snap the subframe stud on the driver side front right where the threads taper into the stud. Did some searching and looks like I may have to find a new stud off a parts car unless you guys have any other ideas. I really learning to hate rust every time I go to work on this car lol.
