View Full Version : Whats a Ladder Bar
Ok so theres front and rear strut tower bars that obviously attach your strut towers. Front and rear anti-sway bars that go underneedth (dono what parts they connect) A cross bar is the bar on the inside of your car that goes just infront of the back seat(i think). Well whats a ladder bar?

Never heard of a ladder bar, there are also lower strut bars that go underneath the car, plus there is an anti roll bar, or the one that goes through the back seat floor... akimoto makes em. dunno if they exist for a 240 though... monkey bar that's it. Thre was also a bar on the old Grand Nationals that went from the Dif to the front of the car to help keep the power on the ground... wonder why no one has used that since, it worked so very well.

if ur referring to older muscle cars etc (or did u see this term for sport compact??) it is a traction control product. picture RWD with leaf springs (not coil springs like we have), the springs run fore-aft /front-rear. under heavy acceleration an axle assy (or differential assy) will twist or wrap from the torque....it will try to roll up. remember the assy is suspended by long (flat) springs that flex. the twist/wrap/roll is transferred to the springs and they flex, thus allowing wheels/tires to lose traction. (this is hard to describe!!) the "ladder bar" bolts to the axle assy at the leaf spring, hangs below the leaf spring extending forward parallel to the spring approx 20-24", and has a rubber bumper at the forward end on top barely touching the bottom of the spring. when the axle twists/wraps/rolls and the "action" is transferred to the springs, the springs can NOT flex anymore cuz the ladder bars (made of square steel tube) are there to "absorb" the motion....they stop spring flex, thus send the torque motion into the wheels/tires, thus plant them to the pavement and.....TRACTION! these bars stop the wheel hop of the rear tires which is a gross loss of traction. i hope this BOOK makes sense!
just checked this.....go to mrgasket.com , see FAQ and "new products....(page down)....see "traction bars for trucks" to see pic (cars look the same!). as you can see i'm bored!
It was referring to the 240. <a href="http://www.zilvia.net/pages/rides/MWs14.asp" target='_blank'>http://www.zilvia.net/pages/rides/MWs14.asp</a> at the bottom under install plans.

Ladder bars tie together the frame rails making your chassis stiffer.

Do-Luck makes a bunch of structural strengthening parts. All are listed on the website above. They are all worth the $ IMHO. The RXB is the best. It will take away that nasty flex that the 240SX has. I will be getting these if I get my s13, just when is the question. I will aslo get the Ladder bars, but the floor support bar im not sure about.

to fit a do-luck RXB into an s13 240 you're going to have to take out the auto-seatbelts and replace them with manual ones, from either an s14 or a canadian s13 240.

thanks for the link Mark (as usual!). those Do-Luck bars look like lower tie bars to me, similar to those used on hondas. are they bolted to suspension points..?? they obviously help stop chassis vs suspension flex. its been interesting watching all these "old terms" applied to new products in this market, sometimes moving to a completely diff product. check out that link in my previous post ( www.mrgasket.com ) to see what they are in domestic market. learnin!
Yeah, thanks for the link/info. I'll have to look into getting that rxb sometime. I see what your sayin about floor support tho, over $600! I think you could prolly get better performance putting that $600 somewhere else, don't you think?

#### i need to get in the ladder bar business. $600 for a peice of bent metal? and i thought strut tower bars were bad.... but regardless of the price, that's some cool stuff, i never knew those were available
woops i meant 600+ for the floor support. 285 for a bent piece of metal seems so much better <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
