Searching came up with simliar problems, but I'm just looking for a simple answer concerning the factory S14 temp gauge and my autometer water temp gauge that is connected to a sender in my Blitz Upper Radiator hose. I have a Koyo Radiator/Dual FAL Fan setup and today while driving in about 85 degree weather, my Autometer temp gauge was reading 165 and at that time my factory gauge was about 3/4 of the way up (above halfway), slightly below the line before the H line. Halfway on the factory gauge is 135-150 on my AM gauge. Is this normal? I thought 160-180 was the halfway point on the factory gauge? Then again my sender IS in the upper hose which is the temperature of the coolant after the radiator before it goes into the motor, so does that mean there is about a 15 degreee difference from my radiator temperature and my motor temperature?

the factory guage is USELESS dont pay any attention too it. watch your autometer. I forgot offhand what the normal operating temp is but sounds fine

Now my question is, since my temperature sender is in the upper radiator hose, is it okay to assume that temperature is the same as the motor temperature, or would I have to think that it's slightly a few degress colder becaues its right after the radiator? I'm just asking because I'm wondering why Blitz decided to put the sender port in the upper radiator hose instead of the lower one? Wouldn't the lower give a more accurate reading of the motor temperature because it is the coolant temperature before it reaches the radiator? What is the usual temperature difference between the 2 hoses?
I would add another ont inlet... Then you can see how well you are cooling and if your heatsoaked of not...
I dont know how handy that would be... but hey it cant hurt...

Blitz did it right... its your thinking thats wrong :D upper hose is coolant coming OUT of the block.

Johnathan "civickilla240style" helped me with my swap and was the one who told me it goes in to the block at the top hose so I'll blame him for my logic, hehe. Thanks man, you've been really helplful.

its not that the factory guage is off, its just not designed for accurate temp readings. It will tell you when the car is too hot or when the water is cold, but thats all it was designed to do really. On FA i think there was a pict of the guage readings, between X and Y degree's it supposed to just read "Warm"
Its the same reason they don't put super accurate gas guages in cars. They don't want people running out of gas because they thought they could make it home on .2 gallons or something. Its just easier to say "OMG YUOR L0W ON TEH GA$!!!" and put the needle on E. =)

yeah but they coulda put a little more accuracy in the thing. the factory guage has three positions;
