Hey there guys I have an 91 s13 and I am planning on painting it. Well I'm not gonna paint it but I am helping :D
Anyway, My questions are the steps before. (Prepping for the paint) how should I sand what type of paper ect. I am changing color!

Sand down with 600 for rough surface.. then go up to 800 and finally 1000.
Lay down primer
Fix any dings and unflat surfaces you can see with the primer.
Sand down fixed areas again. If bondo, start from 100grit in area all the way up to 1000.
if you dont have a air tight room, the primer is likely to have stuff in the air.. sand out those crap and wipe down with grease/wax remover.
Then your ready for paint.

Super brief rundown:
-180 rough/bad spots of car
-320 whole car
-Prime
-180 any drips/runs
-320
-1500 dry paper on orbital
-paint
-clear
-600 clear coat runs/drips
-1500 lightly
-2000 lightly
-3000 lightly
- Cutting buff compound (stage 1)
- Buffing compoind (stage 2)
- Buffing compund (stage 3)
- Body Glaze
Done.
