amp rack looks nice. might want to throw a jacket over that when you park tho.
interesting decision, to aim coaxial speakers at your ass.
speaking of ass...
damn those lights...

....blingity bling! no more passengers for me ....
You actually had passengers back there before the mod? Did you know thats a human rights violation??
Nicely done, it looks like you can put a cutout over that amp when you dont want to show it off (I hope). I dont suppose you have any photos of what all it entailed, im considering turning that area into a small toolbox area and just trying to get a leg up.
Overall looks good almost like it was a factory option!
....not going to talk about those lights though

very nice job on the rack. the lights aren't my style but it's not my car. got the details on that amp rack? i'd like to get the amp out from under my passenger seat and get rid of my back seat in a clean way as well.

I remember when i thought it was cool to show off audio stuff, now im into stealth style setups. Hiding everything so no one could even tell you have a system. I guess thats kind of hard to do with a semi stripped interior.
And yeah, my advice is to take those lights off and return them to auto zone... quickly

the lights are actually WalMart specials =P see, i'm a pizza delivery guy, and i need light. and i figured... if these break, they were 19.99. i can toss them and get some new ones. and they're DAMN bright without being blue or amber... i understand why you guys don't like them, but... don't think i'm some autozone ricer. i actually have a need for them.
as for the rack... it wasn't a LOT of work. took about 15 hours total... (4 on one day, 11 the next =) basically, i just cut a template out of cardboard first, trimming it down and fitting it with a pair of scissors, then i took the templates and measured them, and made the whole thing out of 1/2" plywood. there's four supports inside that the front and top are attached to, those are bolted to the floor with L brackets. the whole thing, sace the L brackets, is held together with staples (thank god for air tools). the top is in two pieces, and is held in place by Velcro, so that if i need to make any adjustments to the amp, or fuck with the wires, i can just pull it off. that's why it's got that fat seam on the corner. i could pull the top off and take some pics, if you guys want...

ROFL! I actually got some wal-mart lights too, the little oval ones. I also do delivery on the night shift so I needed a little more light. I hate having them there though, looks like ass IMO. I like the seat replacement but I would have stuck some 8" subs or something of that sort in there. Even just some mid-ranges.

You don't have to explain yourself but now that you have I can see the point in having those lights :bigok: it's cool, I am a huge proponent of function over form so I have to laud your choice of driving lights to keep yourself safe on the road at night
If you don't mind I would really appreciate some pictures of the interior OF THE AMP/SPEAKER BOX.
Edited to clarify the request

not much to see in my interior at the moment. ripped up wheel, ripped up seats, stock everything... i did paint my headliner, sun visors, and ceiling lights (save the lenses of course) black. looks pretty nice. oh, and everything from the back of where the rear seats WERE is stripped out at the moment... building my sub boxes, recarpeting everything.

you should get a cool light bar with 4 yellow KC daylighters.
And the smiley faced covers.
thats what I'm talkin bout.

would that box work with 2 10" subs mounted on the top?? minus the 6x9's. I cant see why they wouldnt work but my gay friend (he thinks my car should be on Pimp My Ride! :eek4) says that they wont work.
BustedS13

you could do that, but you'd have to be sure to seal off the box nice and tight, and... i don't know how it would sound without bouncing the sound waves off the back of the hatch first. probably wouldn't sound so hot.

couldnt I point the subs towards the front a little to correct that?

they are subwoofers they dont care which way they face. bass isnt directional. getfree air subs and mount them with the magnets out.

Bass isn't directional, but it sure makes a difference in how it sounds! Case in point: when my subs are facing up towards the hatch, you "feel" the punch alot more, and its alot louder. When they are facing the back (of the car) its alot more clear of a bass note, but less "punch" to them(and hella bad rattles:() and when you face them forward(towards cab) then its in between the "feeling" thing and the clear sound thing.
And magnet out sounds like ass. At least the ones I've heard. (pioneer subs, and alpine subs)
If you goto an audio shop (at least ones around here) they will tell you that if you do sub/speaker location mounting yourself, then you should move it around to a bunch of places and listen to it,and mount it where you think it sounds the best.

Please dont go with the Quarts, they are too dang bright on axis and if you have to mount a speaker off axxis and EQed to sound good, move on to the next company. With that money you could go with Polks, much more listenable. Just my .02 cents but I cant tell you how often I've run from Quart vehicles when they turn them on.

you're from stl too? bling!
yeah, i'll look around before i buy, but so far i've been hearing nothing but good about quarts... i was thinking about Boston, too.

I split time between woodson terrace (airport area, fiance lives here) and St. Peters. I like Boston too but they also have a tweeter with a titanium dome so some of the harshness is still there. They are about a thousand times better than Quart though. Quart advertises more than most companies so the name recognition is there. A long time ago (10 years or so) Polk had the Mobile monitor series with a tri-laminate dome tweeter (silk a polymer of some sort and a 3rd something I can't remember this late) then they went to a quad laminate dome and that one sucked, but now the are back to the tri laminate one. from what I can tell the DB and the MOMO series are only cosmetically different( damb I'm tired :) ) so remember that if you go to look at them. Speaker and stereo store used to carry them I don't know if they still do. I will say that when you buy something listen to it first you ear is different than everyone elses and it will always be cheaper on the internet if you can install them your self it does not look like you would have any problems with that seeing as you have built a beautiful amp rack. :)

Check out Memphis too.
Best system I've ever heard...
Jeep Cherokee with eclipse head unit(cheapest one:doh:),two sets of Memphis componet speakers, and 2 memphis HPO 12" subs.100% Phoenix Gold wiring and amps.500RMS to each sub,and can't remeber how much to componets? Hits 148 IIRC

how about Crystal? i've heard good things about their subs, what about their components and 6x9's?
ralphyboy
04-20-2004, 01:06 PM
Yes very good subs (crystal) my buddy had four 15s in his civic (91 hatch with a wall) and that thing was loud, I don't remember what he had for amplification but I'm sure there was at least 300 legit watts per sub. I have no idea about the componants. If price is an issue diamond audio has a coaxial with a tweeter that swivels they sound good too just not the same level as some of the others we have talked about.

Also all car audio wire is essentially the same go for price, ebay has some great deals sometimes ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32810&item=3092632595&rd=1 ) you can't get 4 guage here for much less than that. Most people wont need 0 guage though.
