hello zilvia fans wondering if you can help me with my issue I have and I have done plenty of research but every one else has stalling issues and no rev issues I have none of those but is with cold starting issue. now when I start my car it sounds like it wants to die but doesn't jumps around from 100rpms to 500 for maybe 10 seconds then idles fine no problems and continues to warm up after that I can rev fine drive fine no real issues. car does this during colder days almost every start up.

oh almost forgot I have a 93 coupe
black top SR
front mount
walbro 255
I believe sohc maf 3wire

second question is as im driving if I decide to accelerate to either pass a car or merge with traffic when I shift I get a real strong smell of fuel I have replaced the lines with brand new fuel lines and also the fuel filter. I ordered an aftermarket FPR from Enjuku because I have read in other posts that it has to do with the stock SR FPR. so where is the smell coming from if weak Fpr is the cause.

For a relatively stock SR, there is no reason to get an after market regulator. SR regulators are very stout, will handle 400hp fuel demands all day long; and yours is probably fine. Aftermarket regulators for mildly-modded SR's being some kind of necessity is a MYTH that somehow found its way into the USA idiot-pool... Don't believe the hype.

Make sure none of your injectors are leaking, and double check good connections on all of your fuel & tank lines- to include the vacuum port below your canister and your feed/return lines at the tank. Also make sure the o-ring at the fuel pump carrier is in good condish and doing its job. Lastly, Make sure your plugs are good to go and properly gapped. If there is indeed a leak somewhere, depending on how bad it is; it should be accompoanied by surprisngly shittier than normal gas mileage... Check back.

check your fuel pressure

Sounds like a bad injector o-ring(s)

ok thanks I will check the entire fuel system and make sure my fittings and O-rings are not shredded or broken tomorrow when im off work ....I feel used that if the stock fpr's are good for 400+ I shouldn't have bought that aftermarket fpr..but now since I have it and plan to install it I guess its just a lil overkill/eye candy?

Just to throw this out there since I had fuel smell issues with my KA.

#1, the O-ring in the tank was torn. It would seat but still leak fumes.
#2, the #3 line off the tank for the charcoal canister was plugged.

The plugged line meant the tank lost the ability to let off pressure, so it would force out through one of the other line fittings. Even with the fittings on tight, fumes would leak out. That was the key to the smell for me.

Also, I doubt you have FPR issues.

i believe i am having the issue mentioned in #2
Did you unplug this line and install a new canister or check valve?

^^^ Just unplug the line. If you don't have emissions I wouldn't even bother getting a new canister or check valve. I deleted the canister and the engine bay hardline to the canister in both my 240s and just left the line open. I have not had any fuel smell issues at all in either car with it just venting to the atmosphere.

See that is the thing. I am having a really bad fuel smell. i have 2 lines (1 hard, 1 soft) that are unplugged at the rear passenger side of the car in my 1997 s14. i am pretty sure that is where the fuel smell is coming from. my question is: can i install a valve or something here so the fuel system still vents properly, but i don't get the smell?

Both my cars now are s13s, I haven't owned a s14 for a while now so I'm not 100% sure but if I remember right there was only line (vent) for the canister on mine. I also had a 95 so your 97 might have some extra emissions related stuff that is causing the problem. When I delete the canister in any of my cars I leave the hardline that and runs under the car and vent it right below the starter since that is where the chassis hardline ends. I have never had a problem doing it this way in any of my cars and i have had 6 240s lol.

To answer your question I'm sure you could install a valve or something to solve your problem but it would probably be a pita to get it to function properly. It sounds like you are having a separate issue causing the smell other then the vent though. I would trace those lines to see where exactly where they come from/lead and also check for any small fuel leaks as that could be the source of the problem as well. I wish I could be more help but really have no idea what could be causing your specific issue.

Thanks buddy. I have a few other things to check such as the gasket sealing the tank/fuel pump. not sure if this is related or not, but my fuel gauge has always acted funky. It shows full until it gets to 1/4 of a tank left, then the needle will suddenly drop to that level and continue downward as the fuel supply depletes.

^^Not related, that's either a bad fuel level sending unit or a flaky fuel gauge in your cluster... Or it got hung up when you put the Walbro in.

I did not. I didn't find the plugged line until I had pulled my KA out.

I didn't actually fix the issue, instead I just pulled the rubber hose from the tank to the hardline. I got some new hose, put a breather filter on the end and mounted it up as high above the tank as I could. That and a new O-ring. So the hardline is doing nothing now.

0 fuel smell issues with my SR.

I think the issue is that there will always be some venting but if it's constantly venting you won't notice (or barely will) any fuel smell. It's when the tank can't vent that you get buildup and start to notice the smell.
