Does any one know the type of signal put out by the signal generator from a 91 5spd for the speedometer ?and what rpm is it turning at 60mph?

The speed sensor outputs a falling edge square wave.

It outputs 760 pulses per mile.

The RPM the sensor is at? I dont know that off hand, because i do not know how many pickups the sensor has.

What exactly are you trying to calibrate? Almost all sensors/guages are rated in pulse per mile.

Ok, this sparked my interest so i tore apart a mt speed sensor.

There is 16 pulses per 360degrees of rotation.

If we pulse 760 times per mile.

The sensor rotates 47.5 times per mile.

So if the vehicle is traveling at a rate of 60mph. The sensor would be spinning at 2850 per mile per hour.

Since you are traveling a mile a minuete, The sensor would be spinning at 47.5RPM

the t56 vss sends out a 4ppr signal (to my knowledge) which converts to 4000ppm.

I asked dakota (they make converters) and they said the speedometer in 240sx's reads a 2000ppm signal.

so anyone swapping in an ls1 (4000ppm output signal to guages) only needs a frequency converter to divide by two.

im waiting on an ls1edit tuner to let me know if the output can be changed with out external devices
