This will be long. I've been here for a while just searching... trying to figure out all of my problems. I decided to just spill it all out here and get any help that I can... I'm about to go insane. Thanks for your time.
First things first. Tonight I decided to give the ECU another looksie. I found out that I have a 63 ECU (auto). Now, I have a 1997 240SX, used to be an AUTO, but is now an S13 Redtop, with a manual tranny. I'm assuming that I NEED a number 62 ECU in there. Also, a sidenote, I still had the 115 MPH fuel cut with the Auto ECU... ;) So I got down there and saw what ECU error codes I was getting. A short while back I was getting TPS. Well, I'm still getting TPS, but now I'm also getting Camshaft Position Sensor. Now, I don't even know what that is. Also, where in the world can I get a new TPS... if that's the problem. I hooked the voltometer up to it, and it was giving me a constant ~4-5 volts... I'm assuming it should only be that at full throttle, and near 0 at none. When pushing the pedal and using the voltometer, it would go from like 4.5 at no throttle, to 5 at full. Lastly here, I have no O2 sensor hooked up, why am I not getting an ECU code because of that?
Ok, next is the O2/ A/F guage problem. The A/F guage never worked... the light just stayed on in a random position. I replaced the O2 sensor with the 87 300ZX TT one... wired it up, etc. Well, it still didn't work. Also, I get 12 v going into the sensor, but then I get all 12 volts of that coming back out... is that right? I thought only part of that should come back out. Oh, btw... after installing the new O2, I hooked another a/f guage up to it to see if my guage was the problem... yeah, it caught on fire.
I guess I'll say this stuff now. When I drive the car, I guess it pulls as it should. For the longest time the car wouldn't start worth crap, then it wouldn't start at all. I replaced the fuel pump, filter, and messed with a lot of things like the sparkplugs, timing, etc. All the sudden it just started cranking with ease. Well now, a month later, it doesn't really like to start again. Anyways, once it's started, in the morning, first start, last week it would just stall. I'd turn it back on, let it idle for a few, then go. For a few minutes, until the car warms up all the way, it hesitates... like I get into gear and start to go... for a few seconds its really slow... then kinda kicks into gear (figure of speach) and seems to accel different/quicker. Once the car is warmed up it seems to work well... starts easier, but I still have to give it a little gas.
Clutch, so much here. It slips, randomly. So I adjust pedal, but then randomly it wont go into gear... so I adjust pedal the other way... back and forth. Then sometimes it just won't slip for a few days, etc.
I didn't install the engine initially... I got screwed over by an incompetant shop. I wish I could just start over (buy an S13, an S13 engine, and install myself, while letting the real PRO's do the harness), but I have to make due and try to fix things. I'm told I have a new stage II clutch, but who really knows. I'm thinking master/slave cyl., but I don't really know. They didn't hook up my reverse lights either... anyone know how?
Also, I just bought a MAF, maybe this will fix some problems...
I have a MASSIVE oil leak. I know some of it is coming from the valve cover... but I'm on that, have a gasket already. I don't think it's all from there though... I'm thinking oil pan, but I haven't been able to get under there, clean it etc., and really find out. I'm praying its just the valve cover, but I don't see how. Changing the oil pan gasket is going to suck.
I get a weird rattling noise from the tranny area, mainly if I'm in a high gear at low rpm's. I was told it could be from new clutch w/old flywheel. Also, sometimes the car just doesn't want to go into/come out of gear... but I tihnk that's just kinda normal.
Lastly, and randomly, I had a coolant hose bust last weekend... I found the problem though and fixed it... it was a pain though because it was in between the engine and the firewall. I was actually proud of myself... I'm not that mechanically inclined, all of this is a huge learning process for me.
Anyways, thanks for reading haha, maybe you can shed some light on any of my problems. :blah: :sadwavey: :bash: :x:
