I doubt you found nothing. Anyways, I say don't buy it... it has different gearing. Just find the one made for your car and it'll be easier.

It's bolt in with no other modifications, some people say you need to shorten the driveshaft but it's not necassary. And get it, the gear ratio change isnt sufficient enough to outweigh the tremendous amount of fun you will have with it. Especially in the rain ;)

That's kind of a weird thing to say... obviously it's better than no LSD at all, but it's not as good as the correct LSD, so just take your time/money and buy the right one.

You could always just keep your ring gear and its 4.08 ratio but use the VLSD differential.

Listen, the real LSD is a lot harder to come by then a J30 one, so being as A) It's easier to find, and B) it's not that big of a difference in gear ratio, I say go with the J30.

I have had 4 J30 diffs in various cars and have never thought to myself after installing "man this gear ratio sucks ass, I shoulda spent way more time and money on finding an S14 diff"
Truth is, I never even noticed a difference.

yeah, the difference in gearing is from 4.08 to 4.92, which really isn't a big deal. Now if you went down to a 3.63 or whatever the 300z is, then you'd really notice a difference.

The right j30 diff bolts RIGHT up, so its a snap to do.

I thought i just read in the faq, that the J30 diff was a 1/2 in longer than the stock unit so a shortened driveshaft is needed...Now PSI and mellojoe say it will bolt right up.

Who is correct?

When i talk to a junk yard employee what do i ask for? the entire assembly, or just the guts inside the pumpkin case?

What years of J30 are direct bolt up?
If i use the J30 diff, can I just buy the entire pumpkin case, axles and hubs from a J30, that way i can swap over to 5 lugs?

Well if you look at how the driveshaft bolts into the tranny it is made so it can move in and out as the tranny moves on its mounts. There is enough slack for the slightly longer ABS diffs to bolt on but I'm not so sure its a great idea because if you run out of slack the driveshaft would slamming into that rear seal on the tranny.

If anyone is looking for a shorter abs driveshaft pm me, because I have one that I dont think I am going to use.

Yes the diff is 1/2 inch longer. No it hasn't hurt anything in the 4 cars I have had them in, two of which being over 400 bhp seeing lots of abuse. I have had no leaks, no bad tranny's, no bad diffs, or driveshafts.

If you want to be safe, buy an ABS driveshaft. If you want to be cheap, don't. Either way, you will not have problems.

Guys, the stock open diff and the stock optional VLSD was a 4.083 gears, and the 95-96 J30 VLSD which mind you IS A DIRECT BOLT IN(for S14), has 3.92 gears and therefore does not make a huge difference at all. And i have personally installed this diff into a s13 and concerning the driveshaft clearance, it fits just snug. and as far as the diff itself, make sure it has three dual-bolt connections for the axles and not the five hole connections. Only difference for install on s13 is that you have to switch the rear cover with the stock s13 one, and use the longer support bolts offa the J30.

i have gained much knowledge reading the post..who has a s14 diff in there s13 by any chance? how does that diff compare to the vlsd?
-thanks
