Both people for D2 and K-Sport say they are the same (different badging). same spring options, same adjustability, same manufacturer. Just color. And everybody knows ORANGE is WAY better than purple. j/k. Those are just the ones I can pick up.

hks are junk, lol actaully i really like them but as soon as any one buys a pair you should take them in and get them clear coated if you like chrome or painted, they rust like a mother fucker...... had to have mine sand blasted and now they wear about 6 coats ob black paint..... still got the purple bling

you cant see em once they are in anyway, trust me. I love these coilovers, best mod yet on my car. I have the 7/5 combo. For those with S13 coupes who buy these.... You must install the rear adjustment tools before you install the coilovers, once you have them installed, you cannot fit the adjustment tool in because of lack of rear deck height. I still havent pulled mine back out yet LOL.
Hows the ride with the 7/5 spring rates? I personally got 7/5 for my s14 not the reccomended 8/6. Not my crashed s14 heh, I'm using all my sr money to pickup another black s14 and wait for this insurance crap with the accident I got into

i read that WORKS is closed?? so i guess ill jump on these dampers.. with a 11/9 spring rate.. BTW for those who ordered how long did it take to arrive? i MIGHT consider doing it express mail.. but thats an extra 200 :O

just so everyone knows, its posted on NICO that D2 & Ksport are the same coilover except for the fact that D2 Has an adjustment knob and Ksport doesnt. The reason the K's don't is because in the future they will be a electronic dampining controll device for them.
Also, the K's were designed in japan and the D2's in Taiwan

I thought from the pics the adjustment knob was removeable on the D2's, is that the case or are they fixed and permanent?. If they just pop out, what would prevent someone attaching the EDC mentioned for the KSport to the D2's?
Also, if these were actually designed seperately as quoted here from sticky240 "just so everyone knows, its posted on NICO that D2 & Ksport are the same coilover except for the fact that D2 Has an adjustment knob and Ksport doesnt. Why would they be identical, down to "almost" every detail (one knob has marks on it, other doesn't from what I understand)? someone had to copy the others design, unless of course there is actually only one design. If so, who gets the credit, the Japanese or the Taiwanese? What purpose does it serve trying to highlight the country they were designed in and the difference in applied graphics and color? Sounds like the same product to me in the end. So can anyone clarify this? And I hope this made sense to those who read it and thanks to those that address my questions

so who's gonna rebuild these things when they eventually blow? and they will. all coilovers need to be rebuilt, sooner or later.
Toahk
04-20-2004, 10:02 PM
These questions were asked on NICO.
Are they rebuildable? Yes
Revalvable? Yes
Can I use any Rear UPBM's? Yes
The front UPBM's are camber adjustable, correct? Yes
Instructions? Yes
Tools? Yes
What is the height adjustability range? 0" - 4"

The coilovers are manufactured in the same plant then they are shipped to each respective company in japan/taiwan and they are spray painted, have the adjustment knobs and graphics put on!
from what i understand

Yeah that was my point, maybe my wordiness didn't make that apparent. From all reports these are the same item just with different colors and "graphics". If that is the case, differentiating the country of design makes no sense, other than to make a buyer "feel" more confident about them because Japan is mentioned in their design (not production) lineage. Also as stated, wouldn't this duplicity in design allow any "addons" (an EDC device for example) for one, be applicable to the other.
Again thanks to all that reply

haha oh that would take like 5+ months, and if customs is still a bitch then like they are at the current moment (got my shit held up ) It could take a really long time.
Try finding some shop that makes custom shocks, they might rebuild them.

I seriously doubt anyone but the manufacturer of the shock (whoever that is) could rebuild them.
If you send them EMS or UPS they should clear customs instantly but for the price of a rebuild and air shipping you might as well just buy a new one. The real question is will there be an english-speaking person who can arrange for you to purchase a new shock years from now when one of them goes bad.

Mark from NICO said that D2 USA will be able to rebuild them. D2 USA should be established within the next two months.

why not? the shock comes apart fairly easily. the charge valve is located on the bottom and is a very simple valve resembling the air valve found on your wheels. all i've gotta do is get the bottom cap off and i can pull it all apart to look at.

I got mine within a week. $250 for the replacement shock shipped EMS.

Okay but you need valves and the mechanicisms with apertures for adjustment that are identical to this particular shock. Maybe the adjustment mechanism would not need to be replaced, but the question is who makes the shocks?
Most JDM coilover companies dont make their own shocks. They attach a threaded case to them. Since the company that makes them is probably taiwanesse, it makes it very difficult to find the valves. Generally the valves arent sold off the shelf.
The valves need to be matched to the aperatures, and sizes of the chambers in the shock. Its not like you can just get a generic valve that dampens for your particular application and it will work in any shock.
If there is a D2 USA in a few months that can revalve them, thats great. I'm not trying to put this product down or anything, just identify the risks involved.

K-Sport in up and running from what I hear. They said that they offer full service for the coils. I would assume that intails revalving/ rebuilding. And since they are the same shock, I would think that you could send your D2s there.

My guess: if GC has their own line of shocks built in-house, they might be able to obtain/ make the shims. Guess we'll just have to see.
