so, i was just messing around in a parking lot the other night, not a big deal. but i started a drift and hit a rather large sewer grate causing me to loose control. anyways, long story, i ended sideways into a foot tall curb. nice and embarassing. so anyways, i have some pics and i need some advice. i just need to know what the part i broke is called. pretty sure its a tension rod, but i dont wanna buy a part that isnt right... so, yea.

so, basically, i broke what i believe is the tension rod, bent the front fender and the front bumper is loose, kinda hangin... the front wheel, which was luckily a steelie, is bent to hell... and my damn bbs wheel in the rear is scratched up. coulda been worse though...
and yea, i know, it's dirty... :duh:

you need to replace your TC rod AND your lower control arm, make sure there was no damage to the crossmember where it connects to the control arm as well, if it's bent at all, your alignment and tire wear will be fux0r'd.

Make sure u rebalance taht rim too...
but most importantly... WHAT"S WITH THE RUSTED ROTOR?!?!?!!!
That leads me to believe that you only have 1 working front brake!
What's up with that???

yup thats the tension rod. dont feel bad accidents happen, my friend crashed while drifting and broke tie rods, rack and pinion, and blew up both tires.

my rotor is rusted cuz i left the wheel off and its been raining the past few days.. thats all.

one more question... dont mean to sound like a dumbass. but can someone differentiate the tc rod, tie rod, and the tension rod for me? that would be appreciated... thanks for the quick response guys!

tc and tension are the same thing, tension control rod. aka radius arm. the tie rod goes frm the rack and pinion to the steering knuckle on the hub. tc.tension rod is towards the front on the 240. tie rod to the back.

cool man... i appreciate your help.

i located some adjustable tension rods on ebay i guess i'll purchase... they have a pillowball set-up which replaces the old bushing, right? and also, the lower control arm... any idea on a price for one of those? i've been trying to find it online and havent had any luck yet.

yes. you defintely need a new control arm and a new TC rod.
Looks like my control arm did after I hit a deer (went over it).
Anyway just so you know mine bent my strut too so you might need a new strut. Mine also broke the tie rod end, so check your tie rods. I'm guessing an impact that hard could break a lot of things.

same thing happened to me, except my brakes locked up and i hit an island. i thougth all i needed to do was replace the tension rod, but then after getting the t/c rod off, the bottom of the lca is bent in where the bolts go. its too hard to bend back, so just get a new one.

oh yea, pdm sells front lower control arms. thats where i got mine. order asap because it takes a week for shipping.

make sure your struts weren't damaged, too. sometimes when you hit a curb sideways, you bend the strut inward bending the mounting boot or the actual metal frame the strut attaches to.

go to junkyard

if you want new control arm pdm is great deal, cheaper than most dealership even after a discount, i dunno what norcal drifter is talking about but im pretty sure don told me they are oem, maybe i am mistaken. also the option of the poly bushings pre-pressed is really cool, if youre gonna do this replace both, great mod in conjunction with the pillowball t/c rods. also check your tie-rods to make sure they arent bent

http://www.splparts.com/Parts/_S14/suspension/FrontSuspension.jpg this is from spl-parts page they have all the parts you need as well

pdm's ARE oem replacement, don't be misled by buffoons.
I have ordered them myself and they are exactly the same thing that they replaced, down to the stampings and bushings.
They are a good deal too, new balljoints and bushings along with them for the price of ball joints alone.

Also pdm's site is down at the moment. Try searching in yahoo and clicking "cached" to get a cached site up that you can get a phone number off of.
