And this guy wants his focus "tuned". So the "tuners" are all like "I think intake and exhaust just aren't enough for this ride, I'm thinkin' forced induction" Then 10 minutes later when the parts arrive the "engine specialist" holds them up and says "Here it is boys...supercharger" all the while he's holding a snail, with no signs of belts or pulleys or anything that even resembles a blower....I sent a complaint letter to speedTV

Hey, 2 minutes after I made this topic I got a mail back from speedTV, and here it is:

"Thanks for your e-mail. Your complaint has been heard.

Thanks for watching SPEED Channel!"

Why couldn't it be a Vortech centrifugal supercharger? Maybe you should learn about superchargers before looking like a complete and utter retard to the SpeedVision people.

I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing. There are different types of superchargers as Jeff already mentioned. SpeedVision is probably making fun of you right now as you tried to make fun of them with this thread. Just pray they don't decide to make fun of you on TV by showing your e-mail. :x:

I bet you saw the channel guide "Tuned - Focus Episode" and were all up ons!
I guess that shows you. You should've turned the idiot box off when you saw a Focus guy roll on screen, because I highly doubt they would follow a V8 RWD swap for one episode.

I don't know much about superchargers, but do you know anything about turbos? The turbo's function on exhaust gasses! The supercharger "snail" doesn't have a twin "snail brother" for the exhaust side? Did you miss this?

Forget turbos. Now that you mention it snail's don't have any belts or pulleys, they're monopodes. They are "one-footed" organisms. Snails move by secreting a thick slime that creates the suction that allows them to even crawl upsidedown!

I tried putting a snail on my exhaust manifold once; it died. I didn't even hit 1 psi. Engine never saw anything better then vacuum.

Maybe NICO will agree with Marko. I hope we don't take old_s13's postion cuz he's good at making people scared to post on Zilvia.

WOW you are an idiot, I am sorry but you just made yourself look like a huge ass, rather than researching you just jumped to conclusions and claimed you knew that they had a turbo and not a supercharger but here maybe you sould read this article and look closely at the pictures.

Maybe you should email them back and tell them what a jackass you are.

That show is horrible. My friend sent Speed an e-mail complaining about it too, but then commended Sports Car Revolution (because that show is much much better). His letter was almost two pages though. He also recieved the same letter back.

Anyways, I hope they take Tuner Transformation off the air and replace it with a better show......

When I see snail, I automatically think turbo. of course I know s/c's are belt driven air compressers and turbo's are driven off exhaust. So I saw the snail, I assumed it was a turbo, to the asshole making a connection between the word snail and a slimey piece of crap, I suppose you know as much about slang as I do superchargers.

for a long time i only knew about superchargers that look like turbos. they're basically the same exact concept except for the supercharger being belt driven which shucks the necessity for a waste gate and stuff. some blowers bolt on top of the motor. some are mounted so that the snail utilize the existing belt on the motor.

they look similar because they are similar.

ignorance is no crime but stupidity should be.

To the asshole that comletely missed the message of Maeda's comment, it is quite obvious that you know about as much about sarcasm as you do about superchargers.

Ok ok...I'm starting to feel sorry for this guy for having the flames of hell unleashed on him. But anyways, take it as a lesson learned Marko look before you leap...nah that's not it...be careful what you wish for...nope not it either...opinions are never wrong but unfortunatly what you said was....that sounds about right...hehe.

When I see 'snail' I think, slimey thing with a shell.

I guess i'm not up-to-date on your cool JDM slang. I'm not into it personally, but I guess I can see the corralation now. I'll start calling turbo's 'twin snail brothers joined at the oil inlet', and superchargers 'snail powered treadmill' if it makes you feel any better.

Welcome to Zilvia! In your defense sarcasms tough without hearing intonation. According to a lot of communication studies, something like 95% of communication is lost by using just text. :p

For future reference, I'm a sarcastic bastard. :fawkd:

maeda: snail isnt jdm slang, it's domestic slang. The hicks call them snail blowers cause they cant pronounce "centrifugal". Also the ones that bolt directly on the maifold are referred to as "roots" type blowers.

+1 points for westboroughpimp.
Blowers 101 (or what I feel like telling you):
Roots and Twin Screw. They both bolt to the intake manifold. Roots is a tri-rotor, and inefficient. Twin Screw are multi-lobed, with a male and female cog in them. More efficient (nearly twice that of a Roots blower)!
Centrifugal. Primarily made by (or I'd only buy from) Vortech. www.vortechsuperchargers.com has all the info you need from them. In general.. full kits seem to use Eaton-style superchargers (see also, Jackson Racing), while most superchargers bolted up to imports are centrifugal.

and to get a better pic... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2473557035&category=33741
Enjoy. And next time, I'm just saying, don't go thinking you know more than SpeedVision. I've never been that cocky. Occasionally something will slip through the cracks.. but if you go searching for it.. you become an ass yelling at them for calling a supercharger a supercharger.
