They are the same thing. The one that is an actual bearing is supposed to be better and fancier, but I had one break on me.

Could only run one or the other, I'm running an oem brass one and no problem here.

im assuming roller bearing is just fancier but more of a chance of it going out on you.

all it does is support the imput shaft for the tranny and keeps it from titter totting/keep stable.

The roller bearing is known to seize up if not regularly maintained. It provides little to no improvement. I changed mine (which was rusted to hell) to a oem brass one and felt no difference.

what is the bearing one from?

wondering why nissan would switch to a bearing and never recall it or put technical sheets notifying the failures

Well usually I see them sold as a nismo part. Used for race car that have their trans/motor regularly pulled. I don't think the roller bearings comes stock on our cars.

thanks for the input guys.

looking on nissanpartscc the roller bearing one is used for the 300zx as well as the 350z, someone found out they worked on the sr20 i guess.

I was really confused at first why nissan would have both as OEM parts, but this makes sense.

ive heard from many people that the roller type are easy to go bad, and the brass ones you never have to worry about

Pretty sure it is not even really a Nissan part, as lots of cars use the same one. Nismo just repackaged it, as happens with lots of parts. I would not be surprised if you can find it at any parts store, as long as you know what other cars it cross-references with:

Things like this happen with them. On mine, a chunk of one of the edges chipped off.

I have two years on my brass one and it did not even look worn. Pulled a buddies S14 trans with 5000mi on it and the roller bearing was shot.
