so a few months ago i took the plunge and got one of these freddy front facing intake manis.

Bolt on R32 r33 R34 GT s GTS RB25DET Cast Intake Manifold High Flow Fuel Rail | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/270868837865?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649)

so everything up till this point is spot on. the bolt holes line up and even the supplied bolts are the proper threads and offer the proper seal.

but my front freddy manifold for my rb25 is leaking. what are the tq specs for these things seeing as they come with thier own bolts. anyone know???

every time i start my car water spews down the block. iam going to tighten up the bolts.

but on the water neck did you guys use rtv or teflon tape?? seems it's leaking from the manifold side on that sleve you slide in for the coolant hose.

so i went ahead and coated the neck with rtv

hopefully that will stop that neck from leaking. iam gonna wait and let the rtv cure before trying it again.

Good luck

Hose clamp may suck

You get what you pay for...

Some guys use jb weld on both greddy and freddy at the hose end, as for the leak, milll it down straight, or if your cheap a belt sander?.

That is actually a nice replica manifold. Permatex should work, but why do you have it cakes up on the hose end and not throughout the mating surface?

Try a different hose that fits tighter, better hose clamp. Find out the exact hose diameter when around the pipe and order the Baller hose clamps that people use around her for their radiators etc.

That will properly solve the problem. I wish they made a nice Freddy like that for a rb20 :)

how can you tell that by those pictures?

would it be possible to get the water neck welded solid?

yes as mine is, but you need to use aluminum tube 1 1/8

I had to remove my manifold and found a water neck the fits and had it TIG welded. I tried everything on this page and nothing working until I TIG welded together. BTW apply some sealant to the temp sensors as thats the next thing to leak once you fix the major leak.

This is why im glad i spent the extra few hundred on a used legit one. Think its time i start producing front facing upper plenums which use stock lower plenums and coolant necks. Any interest?! Haha. Would be about the same price as the freddys or cheaper..

I would have tried to braze/solder it first. Might work out with good pre-cleaning.

What makes you think RTV will hold it together when your coolant gets hot and starts pressurizing? I swear, some people dont need to be modding cars.

Greddy is also unwelded as mine is legit greddy and still made a water neck from alum and welded it with a tig

brazing cast aluminum is really hard if it is possible, in most cases it is not, but im guessing this is some cheap and really soft kind of material so yeah, maybe, but it requires a lot of experience, and an aluminum neck/pipe of the right size.

actually, rtv should work, not the way he applied it but if done properly it should. I have never had the pleasure of dealing with one of this infamous manifolds (wont have to since i will probably never achieve the kind of power that calls for it) but i am assuming the neck fits in it a least a bit tight, yes? If u clean up the surfaces really good, use some higher quality silicone (i used to use motorcraft silicone, the black one used for diesel engines, now i use "the right stuff" found in autozones), and let it cure at least over night, u should have good results.
I recently removed the neck from my stock intake manifold to cut it and weld it on a different angle cuz my new cold pipe wasnt clearing. After welding it, all i had to do was clean up the surfaces really good, add a layer of thread locker (forgot the brand, it's red), and slide it back into the manifold by slightly tapping on it with a mallet, let it cure over night, done, not a single drop after a couple of months and a lot of hard driving. But i am sure the necks dont fit as tight in ffim as they do on stock im, that's why i would and recommend to use a more filling material such as a good quality silicone.
After all it's not like coolant pressure raise up to 100's, it's only 13psi stock, what is a nismo "high performance" cap? 21? around there? Not much
A coolant leak would be the least of my concerns when switching to a cheap ffim, porous material causing vaccum/boost leaks would be my main concern. U should probably do a boost leak test right after u finish your install, before u start driving it that way it's completely dry inside, cover the whole manifold with soapy water and see how it goes, could also check your gaskets for leaks.

Even without it leaking? Hm. I never had any issues with my greddy. Lucky I guess. Definitely doesnt hurt. If I had ability to make an aluminum one id do it tho

Same here, got mine by trading my old S14 Greddy intake manifold.

wait!!! aren't waterpumps sealed by rtv?? so is the neck that houses the thermostat???:duh:

well guys i got this worked out. i will be writing a how to make these work leakless with no problems.
