Anyone know a good cold air intake thats good for a 240? Around 100-150$ and what is MAF? I know it stands for "Mass Airflow Filter" im preety sure of. Is it recommended to have it on or nah? Thanks for any replies

Let me give you some advice. Dont pay 100-150 for a Cold Air Intake. Its not worth it.
Make your own. Get a 3 inch pipe from CXracing.com and have it curve toward your battery. That way, your intake wont run in front of your motor and get hot. Then relocate your battery to where your stock intake goes (driver side fender area).
BAM! better than a cold air intake for only 30$
After market intakes for 240sx is a scam, trust me on this.

So its better to make your own? Im not the best at fabricating and everything but im willing to give it a try for 30$ why not. Im only asking because if i get a 240, cold air would be one of the first things to do besides an exhaust. Should i make an exhaust 2 or nah

Exhausts ar hard to make, and you need a special tool to bend the exhaust pipes without putting a kink in the pipe. This tool costs thousands of dollars. The CAI fabrication is very easy.
You need :
A curved 3inch pipe 27$ at cxracing.com
Two 3 inch couplers 6$ each on ebay
Relocate your battery to the driver side fender 5$ for electrical stuff
Easy stuff there

The only reason I would recommend an aftermarket intake is to clear up space under the hood. The stock intake works very well, but it is bulky. If you want to mod your 240, turbo charge it or work on the suspension. Intake, exhaust, and a header is a waste of money in my opinion.

MAF stands for Mass Air FLOW, not Filter. Buy a standard intake and make a heat shield. its just as effective.

Okay cool. I was actually if anything work on the suspension, here is a list that I actually made of what I want to do when I or If I get a 240sx. Turbo - my dad said I should do that, like a whole kit would cost like 700$ and its just as effective but idk, people say that KA turbos's are bad? I don't think so but idk either. SR would be better for turbo maybe. Well anyway here is the list that I had for the car.
http://www.drifttough.com/shoppingcart.asp
1. ISIS Basic HR Coilovers - Nissan 240sx 89-93 ( I dont know if I want a zenki and convert to a kouki, or just getting a 240 hatch or an s13 coupe. I like the s13 Coupe in my opinion or the hatch with the sil80 stuff on it). All together $630.00
2. Drift Button. ( Most easiest thing to do of all time) $15.00 I can prob find cheaper but yeah.
3. TEIN Adjustable Hardened Tie Rods for 240sx $160.00
4. ISIS Straight Pipe, Race Exhaust $250.00 ( Was going to get the Megan 3" Test Pipe 2)
I think I like the ISIS suspension stuff but idk a good suspension setup yet. Been finding cars on CL that are all hooked up and looking at their builds and what they got to see if can get what they have. It all comes down to "How Much Money Do You Have" situation and what your budget spending. Thanks again guys :D

I just noticed that you are 15. My advice, dont buy anything AT ALL for your car. Learn about cars first. If you dont know what an MAFS is, you dont need to be buying parts. Read, read, read, and read before you buy ANYTHING.

Everyone is saying that :( its true. I mean I do know alot about cars, just not really about Japanese cars, more about Old Muscle and American cars. I watched a couple videos on youtube and everything it seems easy and all. Best thing to do is take pictures before and after so you know everything is right. And yes I do need the car first and I was thinking about going to school maybe for auto in the future. I do have a job so im willing to learn as I go on to actually buying that car. I may change my mind but I sure do learn new stuff everyday bout these cars. Thanks to the forums

Yeah, and well no, I work at a restaurant/pizzeria. I get $4 an hour since im getting paid off the books. So far with Christmas money and work money I got about $340 dollars. Ive made about lets say $200 alone and I have only been working for like 3 weeks :D. So if I keep it up I can make about as much money so I can get the 240, and my 16th Birthday is coming up so who knows what im gonna get. Maybe 1k from my parents I would wish for, but, I got a Yamaha Banshee I want to fix up. If I sold that I could Easily get that 240sx like no problem since Banshee by me are going for like 3500$ and up, and mine is basically all original with some rare colors Ive never seen. Red, white, and Blue :D

I bought a 05 Yamaha Raptor for 1600 with intent to sell it for double in the Bay Area, that never happened, I like it to much. Sorry I was not being serious about not needing a MAF, did not notice you were 15. But keep up the work on learning cars its a great skill to have even if its just the basics. These cars are pretty simple to work on but they have their stupid little issues.
I wouldn't recommend getting a 240 anyways. Get a civic or a camry.

Stock intake is cold ram air, best you can buy out there. Light plastic that won't soak up engine bay heat especially from radiator that all the aftermarket aluminum pipes are doing.
Good for over 350hp. I doubt you'll be making that any time soon. No point in changing it.

Its def not gonna be a missile. I dont think i would have enough money to repair it all the time plus insurance would skyrocket. I would love to have it as like a weekend car/daily/drift car you feel me? Its fun to go sidewayz but I would do it at a track and parking lots. I gotta be 18 to get the car according to my dad :(. Well by then well probably move, have a bigger garage cuz we got a 69 camaro and 56,55 Belair. So ill probably have alot of money. And thanks again for the support dude. :)

Look dude, Don't even spend money on an intake. If you already have the car, and you are only making 4$ an hour, Just use that money to CLEAN up the car, Maintenance, Oil change, Tranny fluid change, diff fluid change. Make it safe, Reliable, and clean, Then start modding it.
I reccommend :
Clean the maf you NEED it
new spark plugs
new spark plug wires
distributor cap + rotor
etc..
Before you start modding the car, get to know the car first. know how to work on it and know what to do when shit goes wrong.

props for wanting to go out and get a 240 to work on at only 15 but I can't stress this enough...either wait until you're older and buy one or start with something reliable like a civic, that's all you need for a first car especially that young. When you're older and making decent money it's not too bad but it's still a huge money pit the amount I put into my first 240 was around the cost I bought the car for and that's not including any upgrades, only maintenance. Only upgrade I really did was a crappy exhaust off ebay.
It's your choice if you ultimately want to do it but I'd highly recommended not too...not at $4 an hour.

$4 an hour does not equal to alot of money. Between gas and insurance alone, will eat up more money than you can afford. Well not unless daddy's paying for your gas and insurance. These cars are not exactly under 25 yr old insurance friendly, even tho they're getting old as shit. Last thing you need is waste money on a car when you have alot of other things you can do to enjoy your teenage years. Trust me, you dont need your money wrapped around something that will eat all of it. Again old ass cars, too much shit could go wrong with these cars, its not even funny. Picking up somebody else's project is not gonna be conducive for you since you dont know your way around these cars.

For being a 15 year old and not having a job I think its reasonable... $4 an hour aint alot, ik that but im getting paid off the books. Ans my dad wont pay for my gas at all. He never grew up havig his dad giving him money for gas and insurance, so itll go the same way for me. I understand that these cars can be a bitch to work on, and that they can run into problems. I just want to have that car that ik, that I put money into and everything. I gotta be 18 till i get my full license so ill have a good amount of money if i save it. Xbox really aint important to me anymore, i dont buy any games really. I just want to have the car just like everyone else has. I may get put down, dont stop me, you may be right, but its my decision. Its the car of my dreams besides as couple others but all them others cost more then one of these cars. I want to go to Japan and get into race tuning and shops, and hopefully be able to maybe get an r32, and a couple other cars, def the r32 i would Import to America, if I joined the Airforce, you be able to like ship it over.

Best air intake is the deep breath after selling your 240.$4/hr isn't gonna cut it and just isn't enough for owning/modifying these cars. Don't waste your money. Finish college and get a good job or find one that pays more because there are things way more important than 240's.

for a first car, dont get a 240, it will give you a terrible car experieince...
if you really want a lot of power, go to a scrap yard and pull a carbed chevy 350, and snag a 5 speed tranny out of a v8 camaro, get the mounts and driveshaft from mckinney, and toss it all together for around 2 grand. it will be way more powerful than a SR...
you need to set a realistic goal... if you want to drift, dont even waste your time and money on power mods.. go to any local drift forum, or shop, and have them weld your diff. get some cheapo coilovers, and set to maximum stiffness, the car will slide like a well lubed shaft into a tight clearanced hole. you will need to spend a lot of money on tires, so get ready for 1-2 of your 4/hr paychecks to go to tires alone.. dont forget gas, and other stuff that WILL break when you get out to the track.

I started driving at 14, had my license at 15. My first car was a 240sx. At the time I had no interest in cars at all. I had never even seen any of the Fast and Furious movies, lol. After that I had a Pontiac Sunfire, but it didn't feel right. Sold that, got an Eclipse, but that didn't feel right either. So I started looking for another 240SX. Finally got my S13 coupe which I've had ever since. I've spent thousands on my car (tools, hoists, jacks, maintainence, a parts car, etc), and it's still mostly stock. I now know what every part of my car is / does and recently swapped an engine entirely by myself with no issues. I've spent the past few years reading everything I can about these cars. In a few weeks I'm going to start turboing my KA24DE, and I'll be tuning it myself with Nistune. I have a budget of about $4,000 for the powertrain alone, and I'm expecting somewhere around 250whp. That's not even touching the suspension, brakes, exterior, or interior of the car, which will cost as much.
1. Buy a stock 240SX. I mean stock. Bone stock. Don't even buy one with a CAI. Chances are someone who's done mild pointless mods have tampered with the car elsewhere. It's not worth the headache. Find a little old lady who bought it new and has had it in her garage ever since lol.
2. Make sure it's absolutely rust free. There're a lot of threads about where to check for rust.
3. Buy a backup car, like a $500 piece of shit Civic that'll run forever. You will have downtime when you work on your car. My car has been 100% reliable since I've had it (even though it was poorly maintained by the previous owner). The only times that it has been undriveable are when I've done something to it to make it that way.
That's all I've got for now.

that exactly.
I think i threw something like 300-400€/month on my s13 since i bought it, that is excluding fuel (which in Europe costs a lot, unless you go e85 - but then dont expect to make more than 250 miles per tank) and a lot of labor that i do myself. I think i bought it in 2007 or 2008, and i keep spending money on it. This month that was 400€ for circuit sport rear lower arms, 150€ for circuit sport camber arms, and another 150€ for a sample race battery that i have to test. In december i had to get some things done (custom exhaust, new header w/ EGT bung, intake with recirc BOV, various checks, new injectors, helical diff install and so on) , and that was another 1500€ out of my pocket.
That thing is a bottomless money pit, not exactly what you should drive when earning that few money.
