"s" is a chassis code for the type of car that supports the 180sx & silvia (japan), 200sx (europe & australia), and the 240sx (north america). "13" represents the version of the chassis used for the Silvia (coupe) 1989-1993 versions (with the exception of the oddball 1994 convertible on the s13 chassis), and the 180sx/hatchback from 1989-1998. The "14" designates the 1994 (1995 in the US) Silvia/240sx, that ran until 1998. The current Japanese model Silvia is an s15.

Many don't get it, but s13 means all hatchbacks ever produced and all coupes from 1989-1993 and s14 is only for the later coupes. You can have an s13 Silvia or 180sx or 240sx or 200sx. You can only have an s14 Silvia or 200sx. Also keep in mind that chassis codes are independent of the engine - but are used as a shorthand to refer to differing generations. It gets too confusing, huh?
