Does anybody still make them. Only one I could ever find was the Kognition and they stopped making them long ago.

I made a delete bracket that reuses the sunroof glass. :snoop:

It bolts directly to the rack mount and to the bottom of the sunroof.

just took my sunroof out a few days ago, going to cut out a piece of sheet metal and weld it in.

My friends that hated their sunroof have always swapped the entire roof skin lol. Kind of extreme though.

use a bunch of painters tape on the inside and fill in the entire sunroof panel (sticky side up), and fiberglass on top of the painters tape, whenever is hardens, peel off the tape, and enjoy your new form fit block off panel.

painters tape doesnt stick to fiberglass, so you can peel it once it hardens.

I just riveted in a steel panel from Lowes. It makes a good place to store my track number magnets, doesn't leak, and now I can fit in the car with a helmet on in the stock seats. Total cost was like... $30 or so?

^ thats a good idea

I had sheet metal welded in place, but it will deform even if you get a roof support welded along with it. the fiberglass is probably the best idea if you can remember not to bang on your roof.

If you weld, make sure you go slow as fuck because the metal is so thin uptop.

I do track weekends, so I wanted something that would be at least as safe as the factory non-sunroof car would be in a roll over event. Fiber glass (esp my DIY skills with that material) didn't fit that bill, but a decently thick sheet of steel at Lowes did once I went a little heavy on the rivet count.

The roof IS curved, and the sheet IS flat, so there will be some humps along the edges that need to be filled with RTV. I riveted it from the center front and finished it at the back to place those humps where they would bother me the least. I also found I needed to cover the tops of the rivet heads to stop all the leaks. Used about half a tube of black RTV in a caulk gun to do it.

I hate to say it but that looks like poopies.

The solid brackets wont really fix the issue you'd have with the sunroof, which is the fiberglass trim breaking apart, not sealing the edges and leaking like a muffo.

The solid brackets wont really fix the issue you'd have with the sunroof, which is the fiberglass trim breaking apart, not sealing the edges and leaking like a muffo.

My plan for the bracket was to also make a sealant strip that would go in between the roof and the sunroof, creating a water tight seal on the entire piece. Also the plastic trim is not broken on mine, so basically I really only have to worry about making sure that the sunroof glass is sealed. Doesn't seem like it will be to big of an issue.

fliprayzin240sx
03-11-2013, 09:31 PM
Thats the thing, the fiberglass piece is not broken...yet. Itll happen eventually. Once that piece starts chipping away, a chunk of it will just fly off one day while youre driving. When that happens, welcome to the same issue that every S14 sunroof owner dreads. You cant replace that trim, that piece holds the rubber sealant in place, so you'd have to figure out another way of sealing it without making it look like absolute poop.

Keep an eye on the edge of that trim. If you start noticing it delaminating off the glass on the inside corners, its roh-roh time.

Nissansota240
03-11-2013, 09:43 PM
Which is why I'm a bit surprised that no one has come up with a fiberglass piece that would work similar to the brackets I made. Would look similar to an RX7 sunroof from the outside.

What didn't you like about it? It was the simplest cleanest way to cover a big whole in the top of your car, and weighed like 1lb. Was it the carbon because it can be painted to match body color.

I loved the one in my old S14 and wish i could get another for my new car.

I like a cleaner look even painting it will still look like crap imo. I dont want to see shit glued on like a patch all shitty. I want to create a insert of where the stock one is that boltes on like the stock sunroof.

I would like something like this too but it would be much harder to make then the kognition style patch. Maybe if enough people showed interest we could get an frp company to produce one as I'm sure it would sell well.

Edit: Something like this but a little cleaner and for the s13.

The kognition panel was so thin that you can barely see it! It's not like overfenders where you can see a thick rivet on piece.

It was molded to the shape of the roof (not flat!) and fit perfect. If someone painted it, i bet 99% of people wouldn't event notice it.

The problem with panels that are the same size as the glass is the sealing. It will most likely leak and not look as sleek. Overlapping a very thin piece of carbon is the way to go

Nissansota240
06-19-2013, 07:56 AM
How would you not notice a kognition panel. If it doesn't sit flush its going to be noticed. Plus I would think that even with painting it a kognition will still look shitty, thats my opinion though. A piece that large riveted onto the roof of the car, especially a low car.

There are enough products out there that it would not be to difficult to find the necessary seals to keep a glass replacement option from leaking.

Thedriftbadger
06-19-2013, 08:36 AM
I don't see why you couldn't just weld in a piece of steel flush in the hole. Just weld slowly so you don't warp the metal and it should come out fine. That's what i'm going to do. You wouldn't have to worry about leaks and there won't be any brackets in the way of the headliner.

BoostinIX
06-19-2013, 08:58 AM
Who rivets a Kog. sunroof delete? The overlap isn't nearly enough for that. 3M windshield sealant, it's not coming off. No gloss on it = most people don't notice it on a black car/assume its a solid moonroof, have to point it out usually.

Like, be it a purpose-bought plate, or a homedo, it looks like utter SHIT to rivet something just on top of it. Why can't a "delete" just be a panel with a seal around the edge, that actually replaces the sunroof and sits in the hole?

And so it leaks.... isn't it better to take rtv to your roof, than have a giant panel o'shit riveted to your roof?

Keep the ziptie "culture" off your roof.

The kicker for the S14 guys is that you can't fix the sunroof when the fiberglass trim breaks off. You'd have to buy a new whole glass assy. Fuckers are over $1k from nissan, thats assuming they're even making them still at this point.

Actually, that looks really nice. I've never seen a sunroof delete option that was not rivited down... which obviously sort of ruins the shell, and makes it so you can NEVER have a normal looking car again. Also, I'm not sure the color is a problem, if you don't try to hide things sometimes it looks a lot better.

It's just that with rivets you KNOW it's going to look like a clapped out piece of shit, on a car with crap rivited to the roof the bumper is probably stitched with zipties and there's a smashed widebody kid rivited crooked, bleeding rust from the rivets, the wheels are rattlecanned (probably more than one color), there's tastless stickers, and the owner thinks every one of these factors makes him a bit cooler.

And if the owner who deletes it doesn't do it like that, when it's sold it will be to a tool like that, and he'll feel like the rivets give him permission to rivet everything else.

I take it all back though, that actually looks just fine. delete the hell out of it.... just don't ruin your roof with rivets.

I would love to get rid of the sunroof tracks so I can run a non sunroof headliner and make more room for my cage, I was also going to cut nice a hole in the non sunroof headliner to allow light in. Would it be possible to make a bracket that would allow the sunroof to be popped as well?

Ill be curious to see your brackets, I remember the ones you made for yourself. Are these any different?

I would love to get rid of the sunroof tracks so I can run a non sunroof headliner and make more room for my cage, I was also going to cut nice a hole in the non sunroof headliner to allow light in. Would it be possible to make a bracket that would allow the sunroof to be popped as well?

Currently I am going to be making exact copies of what I have now. Which are the ones posted on the first page of this thread.

Making an s14 sunroof into a pop up is a bit more involved then just the brackets. I suppose it wont hurt to look into it.

I took this off of a friends car that was totaled, so I can use it to start fabbing on s14 sunroof stuff without crawling around inside my caged car.

^^^You've been saying that for a while now...make it happen!!!

When my trim breaks off, I'm probably just gonna make a solid bracket and just lay fiberglass on the whole glass to keep the seal in place.

:hide: I know i just been so freaking busy with work and advancing in my career I barely even have time to just hang out . I also am picking up a spare sunroof this week that is mint as a extra spare so i can have for the future. Hopefuly i have this little project done before spring

how do you guys feel about one made from billet aluminum? it would replace the glass but keep the sunroof functional. hoping it would be lighter than the glass but if not at least it wont fall apart lol.

If anyone SoCal wants a hardtop just let me know and we can trade if your S14 is straight stock. ;)

I installed the brackets from Nissansota240 today. they fit well and seem to be good quality.

I would guess i gained about 2 inches of headroom. keeping the headliner for now, to see how i like it. i just cut a little bit out for helmet clearance.

Will a non sunroof roof interior panel fit when using the nissansota brackets

It would probably fit if you trimmed the extra stud length that sticks out of the nuts.

I want these brackets with some sort of plug to replace the glass since my fiberglass piece is shredded.

So if anyone was interested a friend and I where able to make a prototype bracket to build the actual bracket out of for a S13 Coupe Power Sunroof/Moonroof. So some of those brackets will be made soon.

The only thing I'm unsure about is that the sunroof glass that we used only had 2 (two) studs coming down that allowed fore attachment to the sunroof track system. Now I know there was a difference between s14 ones, some glasses had 2 studs while others had 3.

Anyone have any input on this?

We're actually making a roof cap/sunroof delete for S13 but were using a Z06 roof design to give the S13 an updated look.

This is the style were using \/

Do s13 hatchbacks have powered sunroofs? Also that roof skin looks pretty awesome.

No hatchbacks have a power glass, only flip-up. Also I haven't checked on the power-coupe glass studs yet lol sorry :/
