Microswitch on climate control?

Hey Zilvia, I was wondering what the function of the microswitch on the bottom of an S13 air conditioning/heater unit was. While I was replacing a burnt out backlight bulb on the top the hinge on the microswitch broke off.

Looks like this but with an orange button
