oil from somewhere??? WTF

I was messing around with two dougnuts on the back of my s14 and after one of them blew I stopped to change back to my normal everyday wheels and noticed there was a little oil slung up in my fender well. I have my battery in the back, so the grounding cable goes through a hole in my trunk and bolts to the frame, well there was a little drop of oil there and also a little on my frame rail. WTF has anyone ever heard of this happening? what could be back there that would have oil in it anyways? :sadwavey:
NOTE: my car did not over heat and the oil was all behind my rear end and I couldn't find the source (seemed to be dripping from somewhere though)

have you recently changed the gear oil in your tranny or diffrential?

no, I have not changed the oil. But I did check all the seals around the diff and the drain plug and they looked clean.

hmm...under the passenger side...can you smell/taste the oil...that way you will know what kind it is...you engine oil will taste a bit like gasoline and gear oil tastes close to what it smells like

Well, if you have an engine oil leak and it drips when you're driving, it can get blown all around underneath the car, and if it touches a moving part (driveshaft) it's going to get sprayed around. My friend's FD spews oil like the Exxon Valdez and the WHOLE underside of his car is covered with oil..

there is no oil any where but there. the source has to be back there nothing else has oil on it could it be brake fluid (smells a lot like motor oil though) is there anything back there that caries oil in?

just stick your finger in it and put it in your mouth.......i guess i am the only one that tastes the oil everytime i change it....it is one definitive to tell what the stuff is

pull back the carpet in the trunk on the passenger side and feel around. i pulled mine out the other day and found some bottle rockets, a couple screwdrivers ,and almost an entire 3/8"drive socket set.complete with ratchet.someone coulda easily lost a quart down there and forgot about it.

ur diff got pissed and spit it through the breather, the breather is on the passenget side of the diff, and the breather is up high on the diff so you probally cant see it, i cant see mine unless the car is jacked up.

I did do the dounuts turning to the right so that makes sense to be slung over to the passenger side. Now if it is that, is this something I need to worry about?
