From what I read in the Daily News this morning:

Removable Roof + Side panels, 3 cylinder rear mounted engine (MR i guess) rated 100hp, 0-60 in 10secs, 45mpg, and very cheap (sub 20k?).

i also read that its a "ripoff" of the 'Smart Roadster.' never heard of them before. is this the super affordable under 20k RWD car everyone's been looking for? and it comes from dodge... :w00t:

That's pretty cute. kinda looks like a smushed viper. They need to round out the back more. Also needs about 50 more HP.

hehee..no way. If you want an underpowered mid engine RWD there's the Toyota MRS. The 20K RWD i think we need has to be FR, <2800 lbs, 250hp 4-banger turbo, stock lsd, 17x8 wheels, 2 door, japanese, 51/49. Under 25K would be cool too

they do look pretty similar. the slingshot (what a gay name) is alittle smaller all around i think. anyway, i looked up more info on it.

curb weight : 810kg ~ 1700lbs
3 cylinder @ 100bhp

weight = good. hp = bad. maybe a better comparison 1700/100 = 17lb/hp. ka24de 240sx ~ 155hp 2700lbs = 17.7lb/hp. if they can get this in at 17kish that would put it in a whole other category from the mr2/mrs (23kish).

Ripoff? No, it's based on it. Smart is a division of DaimlerChrysler right next to Mercedes-Benz, Dodge, Chrysler, and Freightliner. The Smart Roadster is a production car in Europe with these same specs, but different styling.

The standard Smart is a dinky little city economy car with the same drivetrain (minus boost) powering the front wheels. Move the drivetrain to the back and you have a serious lightweight sports car :rawk:

seriously, they only look similar because they are new production cars. the fenders, doors, roof, and rear quarter panels aren't similar and only vaguely share some lines due to them being post year 2000 production cars. lol

i'd say they look like a M coupe smushed into a viper if i had to pinpoint the scheme. the car looks pretty unique, i'd say. i got no beef with the name either. it's almost as small as a slingshot :)

so like i said, squint and they're similar ;)
